Thread: What is the Militians purpose ?
We had a little chat with a few citizens some times ago, and we brought up the role of the militians.
Protect the Citizens ? which means, killing lairs around the city expansion, help out the old Mon Cal grandma walking up the hill to the Cantina bar...
Well, mainly, protect the city peace. Now /CityWarn is an offensive command, for any unappropriate reason a militian can turn to be a hunter in the city, rather than a protective tool for citizens.
The GCW got rules, the city MUST have some too. We suggest that any offenser in the city radius who attack a citizen get a TEF from the Militians. That would enforce the Defensive role of the Militians.
Citizens would be happy to know they are being protected. In regards to the GCW, you fall into the rules of the City as well.
What do you think about that ?
The purpose of the militia is to allow them to grant zoning rights to prospective new citizens when the mayor is not available.
The militia serves no other purpose.
They are NOT there to enforce non-SOE rules that the players decided they needed for the cities they built. And another thing, these are not the player's cities. These cities are for everyone, the option to even prevent people from just placing structures where ever they want needs to be removed.
Thisname,
I don't know when you came into this conversation or where you got your ideas on Player Cities, but we are fighting for the cities we were sold three years ago by Raph Koster, former creative director of SWG.
He lead us to believe that we would be allowed to build cities that we would control. That great opportunites for PvP and Role-Playing would be created. I don't mean just combat, but the meta-game of controling a city and taking it away from its current government. A militia that could attack invaders (be it player or mob) was integral to that vision. Now, after years of discussion and months of the game, we are given exactly what we were promised, only to have it ripped away.
You may not see the reason for the militia or its use and you may never use it in the capacity it was designed to fill. That is your right, for the rest of us, we have been playing this game in our minds for years and we have plenty of uses that are not abuses for the militia.

Maybe he was, and If so, I apologize to him.
However, there are a number of others out there with that exact view and to them my explanation stands.

" It's designed to protect against people that you want to leave the city. "
Protect who ? your citizens ? And why would you want someone to leave the city ? isn t the city a place to live and walk by, free ? or is that a private club ? if that s private, just build a PA Hall.
Add to that, i have a guess that the Cap on cities already prevents some casual gamers group to build up a city in time against power gamer grind rush. which means big PA build faster, and so would easily corrupt the City system in some kind of extended PA Cities where nobody can walk without being assaulted for some obscur custom psycho maniac rules. Although, i m not against more Faction aspect of the city system, i don t agree
"Not everyone can just start blasting your citizens (and get the TEF in the way that you're talking about), but they can run in and start bad mouthing everyone. "
I don't understand that statement.
Blasting a citizen is an offensive move that may allow the Militia to react accordingly. Right now, bad mouthing is an offensive move that everyone can deal with, no need to call militia for this, use /ignore or if it s an harassment /report .
Sorry DeathbyNerfing, i don t see your point.
