If they get rid of /citywarn/ban then they need to start a GSW sever for PvP. If this game turns into another barney land I am going to go back to playing Ultima Online on the Emul servers!!!! People this is a GSW not I want to be friends with your local enemy!!!!

Unfortunately the same people that led up to the barney land in uo also have a hand in turning swg into another trammel.

"Remember when thieves were able to steal in UO? oh no... thats anti social behavior... we cant have that now can we."

the same will be said about /citywarn only in reverse....

"Remember when the militia could execute a mayors authority in swg? oh no... thats anti social behavior. we cant have that now can we?"

Wasnt it because of a few jackasses that made the developers change the whole system rather than fixing it like it should have? yes.

I don't really think the problem is the GCW in the cities. What is causing most of the problems are the cities that built so they control/own a POI and are warning anyone trying to get to those POI and cities that are preventing people from being able to leave while they warn and kill over and over. It's the griefers that need to be adressed by SOE, not the legitimate tool that they are using.

I totally agree, which is why i ended with the comment about a few jackassses ruining the game.

Incidentally I was in UO well before Trammel, had a red, house thief, et al. The worst three things they did were: 1) make trammel, 2) institute powerhour and 3) remove penalties for being red.

#1,2, and 3 for the same reason: because it took all the challenge out of the game. The last one being the most severe because it just allowed for wanton reds with nothing to lose. I actually had to work up a char, go red and not die or it was gonna be a long time before that char got back to killing.

The same thing causes it in all games. It's not just one half, the ones you decry as carebears. It is also those fools who abuse game mechanics so that the other poor player doesn't have a chance. This game tried to prevent that with consensual only PvP, unfortunately some people found a way around that, so now some mechanics must be changed. You can thank them for abusing a system that was inserted without enough forethought.

Now small one, go stomp on them for ruining your day. Or better yet, go back to the emulation servers with the abyss style skill buys and no guards. Great challenges there, oh yeah.

Neat. I played UO since 98 also. Atlantic server. The worst thing they did was to make the fascet split with UO:Renaissance.

I don't see how the cloning facility argument has anything to do with the /citywarn argument. The devs have put in a FIX for that now. Separate from the removal of /citywarn.

And I don't buy your argument of carebears versus exploiters. In my opinion, exploiters are explorers. It's the devs fault for creating the game mechanics such that exploits exist. These exploiter/explorers make the game better in the long run if the developers are willing to keep up with them.

But, in any case, I don't see how /citywarn causes a problem for consentual PvP... as has been said before, ad nauseum, you give consent by driving your character into city limits. You further give consent by STAYING in city limits until the timer runs out on you and you become attackable.

As far as I'm concered, disallowing cloning at a PC cloning center, unless you had your data tored there, fixed the who;e problem. You wander into a city, get /warned, popped before you can book, and if you didn't store your clone data, you see your cloning options, which doesnt include any Player Cities. To me that is a fix for the -III- style griefing that's been going on.

It was Barney-land before player cities ever came into existence. It's not like this is anything new to us.

No it was not Barney-land (carebear) or hardcore PK it was a nice mix of the two. Removing /warn will tip it to Barney-land.

Trammel-ite here! And a PRO-/citywarn Trammelite at that. Before the split, anyone could kill anyone anywhere. That's NOT HAPPENING IN SWG EVEN WITH /CITYWARN. /citywarn is needed to legitimately protect towns, not just for PvP.
