Thread: What Are We Supposed To Use, Harsh Language!

I'm a militia member of a neutral city Aartan Ridge on Farstar. We have been planning our city since early 2002 and are very happy with the way cities have been implemented.
We have a good group of mature players over 100 of em in total living in our city and a well organised militia with a simple set of rules.

1) Aartan is a safe haven for both sides of the GCW, so PVP is not allowed in the city limits.

2) Faction Pets are also no allowed in Aartan as we are neutral.

So fare we have had our rules respected by everyone, both rebels and Imps alike can walk our streets in safety as our militia will keep the peace by informing people of the rules and asking them to abide by them.

The threat of /citywarn has always been there to keep unruly players in line, as a sanction its never been used because the treat has always been enough.

Now what do we do, please don’t have a Battle in the middle of our city or we will have to say, please don’t have a Battle in the middle of our city again.

Without city warn we can’t enforce the peace, if we cant enforce the peace, we get anarchy.
I realise that this function can be misused. The answer is not to remove it but make it impossible to misuse. The following illustrates how.

Do what was supposed to happen when cities were first announced. Put a message on screen before a player enters the city to say how many members are members of the militia and how many people have been killed in the city. This will warn people of potential griefer cities so they can stay well clear.

Increase the time of city warn to 5 minutes. This gives people ample time to leave the city if they have been warned so they cannot be engaged in non consensual PVP.

Make sure people cannot accidentally re-spawn at a clone centre in the town they have been /citywarned from. This is the main cause of the /citywarn grief as people are clone camped, and can’t leave the town without dieing and getting cloned again and again and again.

Institute a POI zone around POI’s, not a no build zone but a zone where /citywarn does not work. I know this is more coding but added to the above changes it means /citywarn can only be used for the purpose intended which is to remove griefing players from a player city.

As it stands at the moment on TC the militias are effectively powerless /cityban is an ineffective means to remove griefing players as it does not remove them. There is nothing to stop players standing in the middle of a town and subjecting citizens to a stream of abuse. Yes I know this can be reported to CSR’s but the idea with the /citywarn removal was to make the griefing and also the amount of calls to CSR’s go down not up.

Also there is nothing to stop Imps or rebels fighting in our neutral town. We will not have any power to curtail there fights or intervene in anyway.

I realise that the way /citywarn is now is open to grief. But I urge the devs to think again about its removal in favour of its modification.

We're Charley Brown, the Dev's are lucy and the Smuggler revamp is the football.
Every time we think, this is the time were gona get to kick the football Lucy pulls it away at the last minute.

I only have one thing to say aauugghh!

Agreed.

I can only see the removal of this feature opening new doors for griefers, it doesn't solve anything. It is a punishment to all those cities that mean well and want to stop griefers. If certain cities were griefing people for no reason then these are the people that need to be dealt with. This is just too simple a fix that will ruin the fun of the game for others.

It was always a case at school that the people who were worst behaved got the most attention. I say its high time those who want nothing to do with the griefers of the game are given more attention and more power to place barriers between them (normal human beings) and the griefers.

Good ideas here, I hope some solution can be found to the POI City griefing, but which also doesnt affect cities that have formed near POIs for the express purpose of letting the server population have an easier time getting there and enjoying the fun of the POI...

Here is a picture of the Aartan Ridge city militia which officially got underway last Saturday at our cities Grand Opening. Look how proud they look!

Now this is just one city militia that prooves many out there are upstanding citizens of the game community and would use /citywarn only when absolutely necasary. Their purpose is to uphold the laws of the city, a task which may be impossible without the /citywarn backup.

I hope the Aartan Ridge Milita, A.R.M.E.D,doesnt turn into the Useless Nerfherder Aartan Ridge Militia, U.N.A.R.M.E.D

I agree, removing warn will just allow cities to be greifed by visitors. It turns the tables and makes a whole other set of innocent people vulnerable to grefing.

The implmentation needs to be changed, not just yanked with no alternatives.

I wish they would have made no city build zones around POIs to begin with. It is still absurd to me that we have Mos Krayts on every server and other cities that are built right on top of POIs - there should have been no way for anyone to control these kinds of areas.

Aye I have to agree with Mystique and most of the others. I understand the problem that can rise when /citywarn gets abused by cities.

However I see it this way, people can choose which city they visit. If a city uses this to grief players than make it clear that this happens. With the status check mystique described before. However when taking away citywarn you give griefers free play within cities. Cities and its citizens however cannot choose to not have the griefer around. Citywarn is a skill that makes it possible to keep unwanted people out. Those who enjoy making other players experience less fun.

I agree that we, the people who just want to have fun finally were given a tool that helped us make this possible. As said cities like Aartan who want to be neutral can make sure certain rules are met so everyone has a good time in Aartan, and seeing our Grand Opening this Saturday people have a good time in Aartan, not just its citizens.

However there were people who before saturday stated very clearly they intended to come and spoil the fun at this party. For fun they would just make sure everyone else didnt have any. It are these kind of players people do not want around and it is these people the /citywarn skill helps against.

Again as mystique said the idea that this skill is around is often enough to keep this type of stuff out of our player experience. However I for one would hate to see my playing experience in a city that some of us worked and planned on for almost 2 years! ruined. By some griefer thinking thats funny because again those that misuse a very usefull skill are given more interest than those who like the skill for what it was made fort in the first place.

So I say look at how to stop people misusing this skill (And Mystique gave very good idea's for this already and Im sure there are more) instead of cancilling it alltogether and again punish people who DO play the game in a fair way

I dunno, I find it horribly amusing that after the next patch all these Mos Krayts will have 300k HAM Krayts wandering through their cities...

Wonder how many tourists they'll get then...
