Thread: an idea for getting more people involved in cities!
I would think that any mayor would love to have a cabinet that could help complete mayoral tasks when the mayor was not present. the mayor would appoint cabinet members for a 1 month term (so that the city doesnt just go to hell when a new mayor comes and changes everything). These cabinet posts would each have their own abilities and specific ways they can help. here is the actual idea in list form
1. Treasurer (novice merchant or higher). The treasurer would be able to see detailed listings of the income and expenses of the city as well as a list of people who are delinquent in payment of taxes. The treasurer would also be able to grant a zoning rights for merchant related structures such as a bank and a merchant tent ONLY! Also, the treasurer would have the ability (at very high levels) to levy taxes on a certain structure type for a once a month boost to the coffers (that is, the skill can only be used once per term and would be specific to a level of building, large, medium, small etc.). This skill would also have a cap as to how much of a tax may be levied. say 20% of the maintenance cost. this could help struggling cities quickly raise a little bit of capitol when they really need it bad.
2. Security Official (Squad Leader). The security official would get bonuses when fighting people who are on city warn and city ban. The security official would also be able to appoint 'Shift Captains' (any elite combat profession) who would get a fraction of this bonus and would also confer their smaller bonus to any milita member they are grouped with. The point of this would be too mimic the abilities of actual police forces and make it so that a rival city can not easily come into town and start running amok and causing trouble simply because they have larger numbers. the security officer could also place a weapons storage facility which would remove peoples weapons form them and place them in an imaginary box... the weapons would be returned to the player after leaving the city. all militia members would be immune to this and would keep their weapons... jedi would also be immune to this rule and keep their lightsabers (/mindtrick... "we dont need to take his light saber").
3. Vice Mayor (politician). This would be granted to the runner up in a city election and would have only the power to grant zoning rights. This would help mayors who can not be in the city at all times or who travel alot.
well... does anyone like the idea of the cabinet? does anyone see flaws in my idea? anyone have a position to add to this? what do the dev's think of this? talk amongst yourselves... im faklempt.

I love the idea of cabinet positions being available, but this one fills me with griefing fears.
I would NOT want the random stranger who comes to our city to be able to get zoning rights to our city.

very good point... ammend that to the current mayor could CHOOSE a vice mayor to serve for the regular one week term (and recieve 1/4 the xp the actual mayor recieves so more people could play mayor).

cant be deliquent on taxes that are automaticly taken out but otherwise i like the idea of seeing more about where taxes come from
