Thread: How exactly does Research Center Work?
I am a master weaponsmith, and the Mayor of the city of Mercadia on Valcyn. We jsut became a research center, and I decided to test it out. My experimentation is no different than it was before we became a research center.
Where exactly do I see the benefit of this 125k a week?
Before we were a reaserch center when I'd make somethign using 998material, all the stats would be at 28% before experimenting. Now as a reasearch center it is still at 28% for every stat.

As far as I know, it reduces the chances of failure and increases the chances of higher successes during the experimentation phase.
You know, when you put points into experimentation, you run the experiment and it has a chance of failure or success? That's the bit it helps you with.
It is kinda like the Manufacturing center bonus (which applies to assembly) only this bonus applies during experimentation.
This means that if I made a 65% composite suit normally, it would come out 75% (+15%)... But... Who knows if it's working. Probably broken just like everything else... specializations are a waste of time...
Like everything else, the devs shoved it out before it was ready... Don't they care about their product or are they just happy with mediocrity? Guess the answer is in the question.. mediocrity sells

Yes the experimentation rolls are increased by 15%, but not the experimentation points. You've misunderstood what roll they were talking about.
It only increases your chances of success during experimentation, it doesn't increase the end result.
A run of amazing successes outside a city, compared to a run of amazing successes inside a research center, are exactly the same thing. There is just a higher chance of getting an amazing success in a research center.
I have been getting a lot more amazing and great successes, but I still seem to be getting lots of turns with 3 or 4 moderate successes in a row. But that may be my dumb luck.
At least I'm seeing some Good and plain old successes in the mix, it used to be Great, Moderate and Crit failure and the occassional Amazing Success.

Yeah I have been testing this. You do get fewer moderate results and more great and amazings. But unless you are hand making a bunch of stuff it doesn't make that much of a difference for creating schematics - maybe you have to make one or two less attempts at schematics - but is that worth 125k a week?
I guess that depends...

Its definately worth it for a weaponsmith. Probably saves me 125k a week in resources and greif alone. Before using research center it was taking me around 10-15 crafting attempts to iron out 100% perfect schematics, now its maybe 2-3 attempts max with many of them coming in on the first try.
Also worth it for architects.
I mean think about it. For every item you create, you only do one assembly and 3 or so experimentation runs. So protecting yourself against 3 chances of critical failure, is better than protecting yourself against 1 or none.
I would like to see the Industrial Society added back in. Having the added protection against all 4 stages would protect armorsmiths from resource loss quite a bit.
do you get the bonus just by crafting in the city with your own tool and droid?
