Thread: When is it time to give up on your city?

We had a pretty active city since launch always hovering between 55 and 85 citizens. Even a key guild moving away didn't break that and we persevered.

However, our city is now at 55 citizens. I am the leader of a business guild and faced with the prospect of losing the shuttle, we have moved SW of theed. This is a key deathblow to the city and we intend to poof it shortly. After taking an analysis of the situation, we found we pretty much had only 10 actives in our city. The rest gone? or missing? ....

We feel it is not right or porper to continue the city with few 'real' citizens... so it will be gone soon. We employed no cross server lot trades or anything like that, but it's hard to determine exactly how many peopleare really still playing. We could have easily kept our shuttle, but to what point? For self aggrandizement? ego? i paid nearly 500k each week for our city since launch. It was well worth it as many friends were made, but when is it time to move on?

How many of you politicians have real citizens even barely near your registered tally? I'd wager that most have less than 1/3 as acdtive citizens.

Cities, while wonderful, have not been supported really by the dev's. There is no incentive to live in a city.. as there should have been and was talks of.

I am going to miss the city I was a former mayor of...it truly was beautiful. But all good things must come to an end someday. Today just happens to be ours....

I sent a 1 credit bank tip to every one of my approx 100 citizens. I found that I have at least 80-85 still active. Guess I'm one of the lucky mayors

The last 5 months I have been adding 2 for every 1 citizen loss so we are doing ok. Like last month I added 16 citizens but lost 10 and the previous month I added 22 and lost 8

I did not do the tip thing but from what is on the citizen roles and the people I have seen I have about 40 inactive out of 188

I am at the point where the inactives houses are decaying so they are getting cleared out. I actually have 1 or 2 a month that actually move the rest are decays

If I were you I would just keep adding active players as much as you can. Keep the city vitality up.

i'd say so.. that's a great percentage. You deserve your city. Cities like mine prevent those deserving from growing as well. With a guild/city format, it's easier to keep track.. but with an 'open' city it hard to know exactly who is playing at different hours than you or is just 'missing'.

After we actually sat down and counted.. the 10 of us were really the only ones left. So we decided to call it a day and close down the city.

From the tone of your sad story I would say you should start up a new city & build the population up again. Im the mayor or a city on Talus Radiant server . I took over the account & job as mayor when the old player left. I have watched the community grow slowly at 1st & then it sort of took off through a combination of real ppl moving there & cross server trades from a village to a city of 69 citizens. Im very proud of our city & have decorted it like crazy with well placed gardens & fountains. We are still growing & trying to get commerce to flourish. I love being mayor! I am aware that someday things can go sour & the city might go belly up. That will be painful but Im willing to take the bad with the good. I have to give credit to the fine citizens of my city for the great job of finding new people to joins us. All I did was be an active mayor providing starter homes to new arrivals & I provided all civic structures & gardens out of my own pocket ,or crafting deeds with my master arch alt. Im not planning to be jedi. I am so wrapped up in tending my city I cant think of much else. I wish you luck & hope you find your reborn city. ign Glimmerwyld

  • I think we took the best course of action in the spirit of the game. I city really was 'dead' and we could either try to regrow it or move on. We moved on and joined a smaller up-and-coming city who has now just hit 35 citizens. And I think most of us are happier with the decision. Loss of a shuttle would have been tantamount to closing our business and we just couldn't risk that. (We did have offers from other player cities with shuttles but chose the 'smaller' one without a shuttle since it was on the theed frontline anyways. If this city poofs, we are still easily accessible, unlike being out in the boonies with another player city.

  • Shuttle or no shuttle being n the booonies is a tough sell for people to move into

Tough question, but if it really was only 10 of you actively playing then I think you have made the right decision. Not as if you are the sort of person who can't manage to fill the time

I would have to agree with the 1 in 3 citizens being active before the latest voting cycle. Seeing the numbers who are actually actively voting surprised me somewhat and it is just over a third of our 95 strong population who voted. Factor in those who don't vote but play, we still have a pretty active city. Despite some people saying it is a ghost town when they walk through it!

I would also agree that the devs haven't done much to encourage people to move to player cities. Hell, we have Tirius slums outside our metropolis because people want the services but don't want to pay the taxes! As for the role of politician itself, they really need to give us something in the way of continual real content. Not just 'priviliges' that are useful during the setup and rarely afterwards.

Anyhow, just wanted to pop in and say hi
