last week in politics

time flies I'll be moving this week and probably next, but I'll have internet access and will check on the forums.

New Unity's election happened the other day, and since GM's script results in all votes defaulting to me, nothing really happened. I re-registered for the race the same day, and got folks to start voting for me... better safe than sorry. so far, so good

one of my citizens talked to me about starting another mall in the city. the location was good, so I said ok providing that they put advertisements in our merchant tents. it was then I realized that we never put up a starwright tent... whoops. our former mayor alt is also still the owner of those tents, so I might ask my militia member in charged of these tents to contact her.

I took down a garden to put in a new statue in the market area, and it marks the dawning of a new era for TC. come visit and take a look

I know most of you (if not all) had your election this week, how was it?

Haven Island - /Chimaera / Corellia

Ooooh my aching head

I bring you this report of the evening celebrations from the steps of the Haven Island town hall. Around me lies the debris of the evening’s events, empty bottles of brandy, spent firework casings and other assorted litter. To one side of the town hall there is a rather unpleasant and pungent odour vaguely reminiscent of wet Wookiee. A sample has been taken and passed onto our local bounty hunter who will track down the culprit. A traffic cone can be seen adorning the safety beacon on the shuttle port and someone has stolen our cleaning droid. All in all it was one hell of a night.

So let me recap the events as they happened before my brandy downer kicks in and I loose the contents of my stomach.

The evening began is high sprits and we had a good turn out at the town hall both of the island citizens and some new faces. I began by recounting the history of Haven Island and how it grew from a small township to the metropolis that it is today.

The frequent raids by Corsec forces that objected to having a neutral town so close Coronet were also narrated. As I was just finishing my speech the ground around us shook and we rushed to the town hall entrance to see a Corsec landing craft touching down. It looked like another raid was about to begin, but this time we were not worried.

The previous waves of troops were poorly armed and trained the kind that could be taken out by a well-thrown Nuna. We readied ourselves as the landing ramp dropped.

We were not ready for what emerged, Corsec elites rushed the town hall, the kind that the send to protect their prison ships, closely followed by a wave of battle Droids. We were not ready for this, we were unbuffed and they truly caught us by surprise. The Medics did all they did to keep us alive whilst buffing the combatants.

A ferocious battle began on the doorsteps of the town hall, our close combat experts held them back whilst the reminder unleashed a blistering volley of Blaster fire. Slowly one by one the attackers fell until one lone battle droid remained, a few minutes later at the and mist cleared we stood victorious.

People picked them selves up and limped slowly towards the medics, around us we recovered the bodies of the fallen and resuscitated them. As everyone congratulated each other the buoyant mood was shattered as we received word that the second wave was on its way and would be landing in a minute. Once again frantic buffing ensued as we prepared ourselves and took up our positions.

An eerie silence fell over the island as we waited but we did not have long to wait, the sound of engines could be heard over the waves. The shuttle craft landed by the bank and the second wave of troopers disembarked as we readied our guns our hearts fell, a Super Battle Droid had just stepped off the craft. We unleashed a torrent of blaster fire, the commandos hitting the Droids with missiles and flame. Of the battle I do not remember much, things were happening too quick. A well place missile from the Super Battle Droid took me out, by the time I came to the Super Battle Droid was rushing the town hall. We redoubled our efforts and focused our fire on the Droid after a few minutes it fell. We had won.

We were determined not to let this spoil our evening events so it was off to the Crystal swamp for the swoop racing. The race proved to be interesting, after completing the initial qualifying the 6 finalists set off and everyone finished with a time of 336.0 seconds. Maybe the droid was bugged or Rael-Na had tried to fix the race by slicing it. We agreed to give each of the finalists 500,000 credits and the first prize of an AV-21 was awarded to Reynevan Bileau.

For here we moved onto space, where some one on one dogfights took place for the pleasure of those on the yacht. After the dogfights we took a trip around the more dangerous spots in the Galaxy and dispatched a few pirates, whilst Boaby Fett and Dawnn Stardancer locked themselves in one of the yacht’s private cabins.

So ends my log, I’d personally like to thank all those that attended, especially those of you who are not citizens and came to the aid of our island during the attack. A great time was had by all and we’ll look forward to next year’s event.

*picks up broom and begins to clear up*

A very special thanks goes out to Pex for the Corsec attack. As intended it caught everyone by surprise and added a great deal of fun to the night. Pictures will follow shortly.

Riverwood, Dantooine -400 -700 on Kauri

Last week our city grew rapidly, with descent planning we were able to move in 46 citizens in our lvl 2 city. City has around 80 houses ( about 75 medium naboo ) now, most used to stock a whole lot of items. We should have lvl'ed half a day ago but we are waiting for a "server city purge" ( help whats that? ) to advance.

We cannot move in any new citizens until we upgrade because we have no room to build anymore houses. I have 4 more people waiting to move in and I dont want to keep them waiting any longer... so please purge purge purge

Planned this week:
- set up a descent mall
- decorate the cantina
- gather resources for the X-Mas gift for our citizens

From Farpoint Holonews ( farpoint.assembly-online.com ):

Friday Night saw Farpoint's City hall under heavy guard. A numerous force of Stormtroopers and officers, supported by droids, controlled all entrances and scanned every person trying to enter. The reason for this was soon apparent, as mayor after mayor of the most important towns from planets all over the Galaxy appeared in Farpoint for a meeting.

Farpoint's own mayor, Sidious Inoxi, had called for it, and troopers from the Imperial Order assured security - and privacy - together with local law enforcement for the conference. A few suspect people tried to enter, but were refused entry. According to eyewitnesses, even invited mayors sometimes had trouble getting past the troopers, but faced with the number of criminal elements on Tatooine, the number of political and personal enemies some of the mayors present had accumulated during their career, and the ever-present threat of terrorists, this sometimes over-zealousness of the guards was a small price to pay for a conference without incident.

Farpoint showed its hospitality by providing the mayors with a buffet of various Tatooine specialities, cooked by master chef Ikooga, and a small dance show of the Neutron Pixies during a break.

Central topic of the meeting was the loss of citizen and income many cities faced, and how to deal with it. Despite some past differences the various leaders agreed to work together for the greater good, and networking and advertising their cities better as well as holding more festivals and other events to draw in visitors.

In detail, the mayors agreed on the following points, that should be set to action as soon as possible:

1. Inter-City Mail Ring

All mayors will be sending upcoming events to their colleagues in the mailing ring as soon as all data is provided. The receiving mayors will forward all events to their citizens via the mayoral abilitiy to mail all residents of his city. This provides much faster information of the residents and will hopefully increase visitations.

2. Holosite Ring (if available)

All City Holosites will provider links to other cities on their respective holonews. Forming another new "Server-Website" is not intended. This Link to others will enable residents to find other communities to broaden the horizon of each, so far often "insular" living resident.

The next meeting was planned to take place within 2 or 3 weeks and will take place in Soul's Peace on Talus. This conference will be remembered as the start of a renaissance of the various cities.

Additional Info:

Length of Meeting: nearly 3 hours

Fidelis City, Talus - Lowca

Everything is going good so far. Haven't gained any new citizens yet but we have had a lot of traffic now with the new loot in place( we set up the city about1500m away from Erran Sif, unintentionally). Election went well, got all the members to vote gained some XP. So now we have mission terminals and trainers in the city. I hoping we can gain a few more citizens in the next few weeks so that when I get enough XP we can go ahead and place a bank and a shuttle.

Hilltop, Naboo, Temest
Well, last week I officially took over the reigns as mayor (no more mayor by proxy) and I have stepped into quite a bit. Over the last week or so I have been planning heavily with a couple of the highest ranking guildies for a very large Scavaner hunt that we will be throwing in the town as part of our revitalizization process, and it seems to be really working well. A lot of people have been getting interested in the event (of course a million credits and an AV-21 grand prize really help with getting people excited)

A lot has also happened, there was finally an opening in the number of cities on naboo, so we where able to break from a town status and become a city, which of course means shuttle port, which I am really excited about as we are not very close to the two major cities of naboo. This has proven to be a HUGE boost to the economy of the city, as well as to the two guilds who live there, and to our population. One of the guilds has started recruiting heavily after getting the shuttle and now I'm starting to see lots of people around town, many whom I do not know, and I find it amazing meeting them. Truely a wonderful experience, even if I have my issues with their guild's leader we still get along, and I love it.

Also, over the weekend I held our first Town Hall Meeting, finally utilizing our very beautifully decorated city hall, and more importantly giving our town a much needed sense of direction. Although not the best attendance turnout, we got about 20% of the citizens (which was roughly 10-12 people) which although is not as good as I had hoped, was still better then some where expecting. Was really great to have the mayor of our sister city on Lok there as well as a good portion of my active militia, and we got to set some big goals for ourselves over the future.

This Saturday is the big scavanger hunt, and if the turnout is as good as I'm hoping, we should have tons of fun. My only problem is making sure all mour vendors are nicely stocked before the big event, so people might come back again to go shopping after seeing how well our town is doing, and maybe also some new shops, which we direly need because right now there are only two vendors doing most of the sales (mine and a weapon smith's).

Chilastra Server

Well, after my first election since the patch, I won. But I got 1/3 of the Politican XP than I would have if the system hadn't been changed. Its not a huge deal for the city because we are at a stable point, but I will miss the nice exchange rate in the Village. Selfish, I know...

We are losing and gaining citizens, and staying fairly stable at arounf 80 citizens. The majority of my militia is currently exploring other galaxies far, far away, such as EQ2 and WoW. It is kind of a downer because I like playing with my friends. I heavily hyped Publish 11.3 to my citizens on our town message board, to get them back interested in SWG again. And I have no posted to the forum about the nerf-stick that was applied to many of the items I so heavily touted.

I love my city, and I miss my friends. I guess I'm a little discouraged this week. But I love this game and I'm not ready to throw in the towel. I just hope something turns a corner to make life in SWG more interesting for the people who have become bored with it.

Desert City, Lok, Corbantis

Well, I'm not the Mayor, but I hope to be come next election.

I lost the vote this election 28-8 to our incumbent, but I think that this is largely because I entered the race after 20 people had already voted for him, and I didn't campaign very much. Hopefully next time. (and if any DC citizens read this, Vote for Mira! )

Our Mayor gobot has started to decorate the city again, and it looks wonderful. I hope I'll be able to keep it up once elected.

Serenity Valley, Tatooine - Intrepid

With the new elections process, our old Mayor was finally able to retire to private life. While waiting for the election cycle to end, he and I ran around the city and worked together to move or place decorations I would not have the skill for until later. We were both delighted when that project was fnished and it really spruced up the looks of our city. We erected a memorial statue for him beside city hall, and because it needed symmetry, he also put one on the other side for me. He's such a sweetheart!

However, Election Day was a bittersweet victory. I arrived to find I had won the election (no surprise there) but also had notification that we had lost a couple citizens, got rank demoted from level 4 to level 3 and that our shuttleport was now invalid. (The citizen losses were a huge surprise! No warning at all. *sigh*) Due to losing rank, we also lost all citizens whose homes were outside the new reduced radius.

We have long suffered under the ghost citizens and dual-citizenship bug and we were well aware our citizens roster is "falsely padded" but with no way to rectify that, we were doing the best we could. It took a crisis to get our active citizens scrambling. I mailed notice of our current status and imminent loss of our shuttleport if we did not regain 55 citizens before the next city update. Those who are still active citizens that had fallen outside city limits moved their homes inside our new perimeter and redeclared. Everyone pitched in on recruiting and we recovered to 55 plus 3 to spare! By the next city update, we regained rank 4, rescued our shuttleport and increased our *active* citizenship!

This recruiting drive also netted us a new shop owner and a new armor vendor in our city mall. Most of the new citizens also joined our city guild, but some new citizensare members of other guilds or freelancers as well.

All the new citizens have been very cooperative in voting too. I was surprised to see I received this week's xps for votes and did not have to wait until the 3 week cycle wasended to get them.

We are still recruiting hard as we wish to counteract the ghost and dual citizens still on our roster and refill it up to a "true" 55+ with active citizens.

So far, so good. Crisis averted.

Edit: P.S. We also made a hard decision during the week of our crisis. Some things come at too high a price.

We received an offer of 30 new citizens from a guild seeking a city to live in. My initial meeting with their guild leader seemed promising. Our Council met with their Council. First impressions are SO important. We were not impressed. The meeting devolved into chaos. They were insisting on merging our guilds, with their leader becoming the leader of all, and our absorbed guild to then follow their guild rules. We are a merchant/crafter guild and city. They were military. We are unsure how the miscommunication happened, but we balked firmly at those demands. They assured us it was not an attempt to stage a coup on the city or governance of it, nor to absorb our guild but merely to merge them. Their leader suddenly logged out with an RL emergency and the issue was not resolved.

Their insistence on a merger was a deal breaker for us. Our Council had a meeting and voted no on the merger and to seriously reconsider allowing them in as just citizens as well. They far outnumber us and could too easily overcome us. We were going to poll the citizens to see what they thought. But a couple of days later I received a cryptic email from their leader insisting again that we had to merge or no deal, and that he could only tell me why in private, that he did not want to risk my guildand city any further. He has not replied to any further queries and every time I try to meet with him, he logs out.

I don't need the drama. We voted to not accept their offer. Not even if it would have saved our city from certain doom. A Phyrric Victory is not what we are seeking.

Kestrel, Naboo-Naritus

It happened, I won the election. My thanks to Rovani and a /salute for his hard work keeping himself in the game past when he wanted to.

Instituted a milita for helping with planting houses.

Took down 3 small gardens that just offended my sensibilities.

Got too lucky and had ArthurP Coodle move to town and put up the Bantha PooDoo-Too cantina!!

Planted houses, moved houses from outside town into town...

Appointed a city council from guild members, merchants and citizens

Have a Merry Christmas!!

Greetings to all my fellow Mayors...

I am the Mayor of Tuskan Vale on Tatooine, Bria Server.

It is with a sad heart that I advise you that the city founders and I have decided to take Tuskan Vale down.

At the time that we made this decision, we were a Rank 5 city with over 8 million in the treasury and we were totallytax free for our entire existence...so I would say we were successful.

But it is time to move on to other challenges.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank ALL of you here who were so helpful to us...it is deeply appreciated. If I can help ANY of you, please feel free to contact me.

Here in Valcyn, the members of KNR and I began the city Hell's Bucket on Lok. our first attempt failed asthe guild leader himself forgot to declare. Our luck would change though, we recruited over 10 new members into our guild in about a week, all of us are now settled into our fair city. to our dismay, the city whose shuttleport we had been using suddenly met an unfortunate update, and we are getting used to the swoop ride to our village. We should get our first update tonight, and we will have a bank and cantina. And have gotten 22 residents into our city within 5 days, all guild members. It has been a great expierience, and i love being a mayor. After all the other profs I've tried, this might just be the one.
