Thread: Using our profession to breath life into the game....
As mayors, we have enourmous powers in this game. I would argue that we have a larger impact on the game than even a Jedi. If we coordinate, we can use the skills we have to add much more dynmaic content to our servers.
We can havedevelop auniquehistory for each galaxy. By organizing, people can make an impact on the worlds around them. Heros and villians can emerge. And battles in the galactic civil war can have real consequence.
Since mid-July, when Tusken's Bane was originally founded, we have done this in our little community -- and it has kept the game alive and exciting for us. With the player city patch, I now have the ability to coordinate with the other like minded mayors on my server to attempt to do this on a larger scale.
IMHO, this game is underplayed and its features under utilized. Now, as subscribers, we should never stop demanding for more content, more fixes, more features, and more inovations. However, even as it stands to day, we have one of the most revolutionary sandboxes ever made. And the big reason is the community that this game has attracted. With player cities we now have aminimum set of tools to collectively do some extrordinary things.
The key will be for the mayors of each server to form a meta-community of mayors (I posted this in another thread, but it is buried in there).
Not every mayor will be up for this -- but for those who are -- I can tell you the rewards are immense. I'll post in a bit some of the stories and experiences we have had in TB -- but I will tell you, despite the bugs, etc -- it was what we had all dreamed for when we bought the game.
Here is mysuggestion for forming meta-community
STAGE 1: Forming
This stage is very simple -- it is all about getting the mayors familiar with each other. Get them to meet regularly. Get them to keep the gov channel alive. On Chilastra, we had our first meeting in the capitol building in Coronet. Future meetings will rotate through the player cities.
STAGE 2: Getting Feet Wet
In this stage, do simple inter-city events. The
first one will I was thinking of was a smugglers race. Basically smugglers will have to aquire a special item from one city and transport it to another. The catch is that have to avoid the town militias and discover who the contacts are in both cities. I would like to do the first of these events in a few weeks.
STAGE 3: Inter-city coordination
Once we have a few of the simple events under our belts -- we will start doing things that require a little more coordination. This will support events, as well as day to day rp operations. The events will include city-to-city battles. On the day-to-day stuff, I was thinking of the concept of "security alerts." Basically, mayors could use the gov channel for a "be on the lookout for" type of message. That way, those who want to play galactic "criminals" will have to be careful in player cities -- those militias will be watching for them ![]()
Stage 4: Coordinated GCW
This is where I would like it to head. People complain about gcw battles not really meaning anything. With player cities their can be consequence for
the result of battles. But really it will be up to the meta-community to pick a direction on this one. Of course a /ban [rebel/imperial] would be a useful tool for this phase -- but I would wait to see where we head before even asking for this.
also with good coordination.. you can also have "specialize inter-locking cities"
like some cities excel in manufacturing (detroit?) entertainment (vegas?) research (colleges and such)
I think that would be good.. coordinate skill trainers (especially on planet like Datooine) so you won't have overlapping trainer in the same planet with a nice interplanet shuttle system.. this would be great ![]()
The key to make all this happen is simply to get the mayors to keep in touch with each other.
Do that and great things will happen.
That's why I keep pushing for the mayors to keep a gov channel alive. It works pretty well on Chilastra.

I agree.
People who thought the Mayor would be the new mule profession...errrr, no.
I could spend 3 times the time I do online just working my relationships with my citizens and other cities.
I just set up a "merchant exchange program" with a new city on Talus last night, for example. I placed a tent in their brand new city and they will drop one in Galdor. They have no chefs and we don't currently have a good weaponsmith...so trade will flow.
Being a politician for me has been an absolute blast...I've never had this much fun in an online game.

I have been slowly working towards these ends on Naritus. Currently my primary concern just keeping my citizens very happy and building a vibrant and FUN player city. But I stay in touch with several Mayors and a friend has been compiling a list of all the Mayors on Naritus. When that is finished, I'll send out the list to all the mayors and we will all know who is who... From that point, I hope we can get together from time to time, network, plan small and large scall intra-city events and basically make the game a whole lot cooler than it is now ![]()
