Anyone know a program or layout like excell where you can plan a city, like how many frames/boxes does a large house take? Is it possible to be able to squeeze those two bases in there? And so on.

Up in the stickies in the useful links section.

I personally use a program called The Fractal Mapper which I have set up on my laptop so I can view it easily and make changes while I'm in-game. If all you're going to use it for is a SWG city map, though, you'd be better off with the web-based one in the stickies since TFM isn't freeware.

I've been using MS Visio and created a stencil that has all the structures, to scale. I just drag and drop them on the design and rotate them as needed.

If you're just looking for footprint sizes, you might want to check the stickies..

Wow... that's an interesting use for Visio! I'll have to set that up! Any chance you would send me the stencils?

Hey Algeroth,

I have used the SWG Mapper thats in the stickie before. Problem is, it doesnt include Factional Bases. It is a great tool, very easy to use, but without the Factional Base Footprints, it doenst do us much good.

I think the mapper tool in the stickies is really great!

However, in general it is a bit hard to plan that way unless you are on tat or lok or something and have a huge perfectly flat area. For areas with more varied terrain, it seems really hard to plan beyond standing out there and looking at what spots are actually available to build on.

Still, it is helpful to look at and get an idea for size and everything, and just plain fun, hehe.

That's actually the trouble I ran into using the web-based planner since I live on Corellia with all the ditches and hills. I didn't have any way to note the areas that were unbuildable. For me, the web-based is a great way to show what the city looks like on the overhead map, but that's as much as I can use it for personally.

This is the link for the most updated version of the program I use: The Fractal Mapper 7.0. It's $34.95 if you do a download, #39.99 if you want a CD. It's good if you do other RP games where you would want maps and generators and stuff.

Living on Corellia as well the mapmaker isn't really useful to have the map made but it does help you get your overall idea down pat. Plus you can get your 'ideal' city laid out then go in game and use deeds to get an idea of what does and doesn't work. Update the webbased program and go from there.

I'm on... uhh... earth? In-game, that would be Tatooine mostly. I realize that I can use the web-based planner, but my internet isn't always-on like *some* people's ::shifty eyes::
