This is incorrect. if you are sitting at 45 votes and the old mayor is sitting at 56 votes, you only need 12 new people. You only have to beat the old mayor by 1 vote, and yes the votes will initially go to the old mayor, but as soon as they vote, their count drops back to 56 while yours goes up to 46. Only 11 more people now. The way you are looking at this, is if half of the people you recruit vote for the incumbant and half vote for you. Since they won't be doing this, a much fewer number is needed.

BTW,
We just tried the "ask the CSR" route.
They told us to destroy our city and start over.

CSRs have yet to do anything good for me. That sounds about par for them though...

Email or send a tell to tempest.vinjar, I'm willing to help. I had to dissolve my city because of this stupidity. I'd hate to see another go down.

Please help! This situation is becoming critcal, as the current mayor's account will close soon. Both current mayor and future mayor can be available to meet CSRs in game if needed.
I guess you could offer to buy the account from the mayor or have him give you the account and you pay for it or have a number of people pay for the mayor.
Thats the only thing I can think of because if you have alot of citizens who do not play alot , you will not be able to win election .

Thanks everyone who offered help. Thanks to a kind CSR, our problem wassolved last week. all we had to do was submit a ticket, then have the old mayor send an e-mail stating he wanted to retire and naming me to replace him. CRS met me in game and made me mayor.
It's possible to switch mayors... just have to jump through the right hoops.

Yay! Congratulations!
And that is good news. We've been trying for 2 months now to let our current mayor retire and my character take over, to no avail. Far too many ghost houses/citizens stillin our city (we do no artificially maint support ghost houses) and the dual citizenship bug killed it too. People just will not come back and manually revoke their citizenship.
We are in the Catch 22 of not wanting to lose our rank 4 and shuttleport by simply destroying city hall just to let the mayor retire. (He's not leaving the game, he just wishes to retire as Mayor) Our city is on Tatooine and it's for sure we'd be at the end of a very long line to regain rank. If we fall to Village again through char purge attrition that is one thing, but we are recruiting hard to regain "live" citizens to keep it despite the future purge. We were actually looking forward to the char purge to rid us of the onerous ghost houses and citizens on the roster. *sigh*
Since it seemed certain no CSR help was obtainable, we felt trapped. Now to find out it can be done... there is hope again. Thank you!

Oh man, NumanjiiCity rocks.I got both of my Old Man visits there. That place must truly be strong with the Force!

I've asked everyone to out vote me.
I've called in CSR assistance.
I've removed my politician skills.
I'm still the mayor..
On week 4 of the attempt.
