Thread: Server City Pulse?

our city on dantooine was supposed to be going from lvl 3 to lvl 4 just a bit ago, but no dice.
is this because too many lvl 4 cities exist?
if so and a lvl 5 city was destroyed would our city become lvl 4? i ask this because we are moving from one spot to another and our current city is lvl 5 and our new one is supposed to be lvl 4 but i get the Server City Pulse message.
*also, i didn't recieve any xp this city update...*

Server City Pulse simply means that your city is still in the "update" mode. Don't fear.. you'll know when your city updates as you do get the email about winning the election

I watched the "next city update" clock waiting for Ammon to become Rank 4. I was outside waiting to throw down the shuttleport and counting the clock down. I even put on my "sunday best" and had some guildies come out to witness the occassion.
I counted down in guild chat from 10... then awaited the email... and nothing. I waited about 10 minutes then came here for answers. Then I went back, said it may take a while and logged for a couple of hours. Came back and there was the email, plus about 25 emails about new buildings inside the city.

Could someone please help? My city is due to advance to level 4 today at around noon. When I logged on to see when this was going to happen, I got a message saying that my city would update with the next Server City Pulse. Does anyone know what this is and when it should happen? I'm going back to game now. If you know and are on Gorath, please send a tell to AmyThyst. Thanks ^_^

I think that server city pulse message means it is imminent - so should happen within minutes .....
I imagine the pulse is a game timer that "pops" at a certain frequency.

Usually within minutes I have had it be as long as an hour before - of course it seemed like forever when we were all standing around waiting to be level 4 with our shuttle in hand

I think it's every 15 min.
I was watching mine last night and exactly 15 min after the time the city updated. And that was at 10:15 MST. I sould assume if it was once or twice an house it would have been on the hour and half hour and not 10:15

My (unconfirmed) theory on this is as follows ... the server gives out a pulse to all cities on one galaxy/planet/server (?) every X minutes/hours (?) ... if a city is in the update phase (which happens exactly 7 days after the last update has ended - not counting serverdowntime) the server calculates all vote/rank-improvement/maintenance issues at exactly that time (apparantly it calculates the rank-improvement befor the maintenance, since you have to pay the maintenance e.g. for a village even though you've been showen the maintenance for a village).
Things that bring me to this conclusion are the fact that no matter when a city on tatooine/gorath was placed - some got their XP at the exact same time as our city (which was the first one placed on the server) - but cities on different planets had different times. I also was able to place a house during the "update" time of our city and have somebody declare ... his vote counted into the XP (very helpfull since it was the last 100XP I needed for a tier). I can also confirm that the update time could last for over an hour some times ... but this is probably a time that could have been tweaked by the devs any time.
So from a city point of view
- 7 days countdown ended => going into "update time"
- waiting for "server" pulse (understand that a whole galaxy is a cluster of servers - every planet runs on multiple servers - so different cities on different servers could have different server pulses)
- the city calculates votes/rank/maintenance
