I was planning on starting taxes for our city this week. However, one of my citizens told me there were some changes to the taxes on cities and I might want to wait until I get the details before putting the taxes into affect. I don't believe this is a delaying tactic as this citizen is one of those who suggestedand supports us having a tax. I can't seem to find any information regarding a new tax change on here .... Has anyone heard of this that can give me some information? Thanks!

There is the bugged sales tax and sort of buggy shuttle fee. There seems to be a problem with the property tax, but it is believed that this is related to structure maintenance not working.

Yeah, what he said:
There's been no "changes" to taxes lately, per se.
However, there have been reports that Property Tax has been broken since the house maintenance changes went live.
And Sales Tax has been broken for months...
The only changes we might hopefully, maybe, possibly expect sometime would be fixes to these. But don't hold your breath.

What about the Income Tax? Thought of setting a flat income tax for my city but if it is bugged as well as property and sales then I would want to hold off on it. Anyone have any idea ??

Income tax seems to be working as designed...
But a small note with it: It seems to be "paid" by citizens the next time they log in after the most recent city maintenance cycle. At least, that's when they get the email. And this also leads me to believe (and watching the city maintenance cycle very closely has backed up this theory) that players that do not log in will not be charged the tax.
So, if someone doesn't log in for several weeks, they won't pay the tax during that time. The next time they log in, they will pay the tax once - for the most recent maintenance cycle.
Fun with taxes.

I don't think it has anything to do with when they log in. We have income tax set up in our city, and it's taken out on different days for different players. They get the e-mail that tax has been taken out regardless of whether they're logged in or not.

Right, that exact fact (that different people receive the email on different days/times) led to the further investigation, and the conclusion that the email gets sent out when they next log in. Maybe I'm wrong.
But next time a citizen logs in and notices that email is new in their inbox, have them check the timestamp on it.
Maybe that's not when they actually pay it, but that seems to be when they get the email saying they've paid. Plus, do you really think any of these taxes really work 100% as expected? ![]()

I actually saved the e-mails for two weeks so I could check on it. Both weeks it was taken out on Thursday, about the same time. Our update has been on Sunday for the past few times. And I've certainly been logged in many, many times between update and that e-mail.

Ok, what about sales tax? I read in a thread that 5% doesn't work but 10% does...
I tested 5% and it went right in my bank - I changed it to 10% and it still went in my bank. Does the sales tax get put into treasury at a later time or does this thing not work at all? I'm gonn do 30% for testing purposes, i'm not optimistic.

Sales tax is just borked. The 10% thing is something the CSRs know works, but it doesn't work consistently to be honest--it's just actually gone to the city every once in awhile which other percents don't ever do. It still has a tendency to end up with the merchant or in limbo, though.
The other thing to note is that just changing the percent doesn't add it to every item currently listed in the city. If I remember right, it only applies to items listed after the change.
