Thread: My Top 5 list for our Profession

Greetings,

I know to must of you that I am not well knownas I have not posted here much, but I have visited often and have learned much from the posts and exchange of information. As I continue to grow as a Mayor, there are a few things that I think we need that would help our profession manage our city.

I'd like to address these here. I am not suggesting that these are a "must" or that they are "all incomponsing", these are justideas that are on the top of my head and I wanted to get your feedback, as the more seasoned politicans.

  1. Fix the "sales tax" bug

    • This is just a must and last I heard it still was not fixed. No bug should go unsolved.

    • I pay a lot in maintainance for specific Research Center and other classifications and Sales Tax is the means to get compensated for that "investment".

    • I would think that if SOE cannot fix the bug, they could at least reduce the fee for the specifications until they do.

  2. "City Relocation" Ability

    • This ability allows the Mayor to target a house and have it reloacted to a new location (within the city).

    • The "relocation" would include ALL the items in the house and none of them would change based on the move.

    • This abililty allows the Mayor to basicly move a house to a new location without changing anything inside the house or change anything about the house, other then the location.

    • This could only be doneonce per 3 week cycle.

    • The benifit is, when you need to redesign the city and someone is unwilling to relocate (or no longer playing but left TONS of money in the building) then you could move it without damageing the hourse or the items in it

    • This would be a MASTER POLITICIAN ability only

    • You would select the build and when you use the special, a map of the city would pop up and you select where you want it to go. At the next cycle, SOE would just reprogram the location of the house and it would then "move".

  3. "City Condemn"

    • This "Master Based" Ability would allow the Mayor to target a house and declare it "banned" from the city

    • The house opperates as normal, but the owner of that house would no longer beconsidered to be a Citizen of the city and the structure itself would not get the benifits of being in the city

    • The cities owner and admins would receive an E-mail that they have been condemned and they havenext complete Cycleto relocate or the building would be "condemned" and in order to get into the house, you would have to pay the fee to extend the BAN another month.

    • Fees would go to the city treasury

    • If the Ban last for 3 complete cycles (with no extentions being paid), the house would be removed from the city (items lost but the deed would go back to the owner).

  4. "Outside Decoration"

    • This would allow a Master Politician to place items outside!

    • The items would have to on a balcony or roof of a building withing the city and would count as items for that structure

    • The Politician would have to be an Admin for the house to place them

  5. "Structure Customination"

    • This ability, also at master, would allow you to "customize" the colors of City Structures and the appearance that you had admin rights. There would be a "choice" that you choose from, but you could add a different color, banners, or other little things that help create a "unique" look to the city

Nothing to major and I guess it is pretty much a "wish list" but these are some of the things I think of as I try and manage the city. I have buildings in places they should not be, but cannot move because the owner is no longer playing and there is TONS of money in it, or the Owner has the build so well decorated they don't want to have to redue it.

So I would think this are things that a "Master Politician" should be able to do. Maybe even tied some Skill Points to them or something.

Just my thoughts.

2 and 3 are fairly unlikely since they could be considered a griefing tool if abused.

Yes, I know you said that moving a house would leave everything inside it, but still, it likely has some technical and could still be used in a way that griefs other players.

4 and 5 probably won't happen due to load/performance concerns. More customization means more things the server needs to remember and send to the client. More things sent to the client means more things that need to be graphically rendered. Basically, both these things could cause performance issues.

I like your Number 1 though.

5 could be addressed if Architects were given new types of civic structures to make. For instance, you would have your standard Naboo city hall, but then you could have an Imperial Naboo city hall and a Rebel Naboo city hall. Basically, these would be seperate deeds instead of some city decoration feature or kit. By making them seperate deeds, you are going to have similar load times to what you have now. Instead of having to load the city hall, then decorations, it is all just loaded as the city hall.

If you had factioned civic structures, it would make determining factioned cities much easier. Of course, to prevent placing Rebel structures in an Imperial city (and vice versa), once you place a factioned city hall, all future civic structures must be of matching faction.
