Thread: As not being a politician, what do you think of this idea.

There's been discussion about this before, but more questions than answers....

Like what exactly would Political Leaders of major NPC Cities actually DO?

What motivation would players have to take place in a large-scale election? (Heck, you know how many people don't even bother with the Bestine election, despite the fairly valuable rewards available?)

It's an interesting idea... But there needs to be a lot more of fleshing out the details and make it actually fun andmeaningful before it could ever hope to take on a shape of a design doc presentable to the Devs.

Was just about to address this very subject and this is a perfect opportunity to voice my opinion.

World Politicians would have the following ability:

To REMOVE vendors from the Planetary Map that are NOT in a Player City. Now work with me on this one. This would take care of people who consistently do not offer any items on their vendor other than a backpack or crafting tool for 99999999999 Credits to keep their vendor on the map. This would be a major ability.

This would encourage players to enter a city. For Player City Mayors, they would also have this ability, but only within their jurisdiction.

I know that some of the Crafting Classes might not like this, but it would eliminate empty vendors. It could also be placed on a voting issue. And it could be linked to city/planetary e-mails.

Planetary Mayors would obviously need to be a Master Politician. They could also set up Auction days for people to congregate and people would submit to them a list of items up for bid. This could be a monthly item or something.

Planetary Mayors could also set a Planetary Tax that could go to a monthly check for Noob Players (A form of Welfare Check at the end of their first month on SWG *grins*) Or that could be used to fund the Auction Items.

Planetary Mayors wouldmay be able to alter shuttle costs, but reducing costs below their set point would require them todeduct a monthly amount (from the Planetary Tax). Or they could increase costs so that they could fund other projects. Maybereducing advertising costs and thusincreasing shuttle costs. Theincreased shuttle costs would fund the decreased advertising costs on theBazaar. They would need to balance the monthly expenses. Any additional fundswould be at thecontrolling PlanetaryMayorsdisposal. Any funds that are in the negative would have to beeither paid out of pocket or petitioned from existing PlayerOwned Cities.

There would be a monthly or bi-monthly election. And noplayer could be the Mayor for more than two terms in a row (Yes I am AM an American... deal with it).

I mean there are lots of things one can do with a Planetary Mayor. They would be able to sponsor events on their planets. They could initiate certain events (like a Rebellion or Imperial Raid depending on their faction). Yes people would be upset, but that means that you would want to get the leader they wanted into office. This could be a lot of fun for those aspiring to be the ultimate Politician. Granted, this will be a lot of work, but I think there will be a number of politicians that would be up for the challenge.

Just off the top of my head I think that it would be nice to institue some world wide political systems. Maybe have a change of system, as per which side is winning the GCW!

But none the less. It would be nice to see some people running for Mayor of Coronet. Or Mos Eaisley..... Lots of other ideas... But lets start with this one. Sense im not a politician. What do regular poloticians think about this?

This idea, in specific is a bad one. Not all empty vendors are not neccessarily outside a player city, nor are all stocked vendors inside of one. A much better idea would be to remove ALL empty vendors from the map, regardless of their being in a player city or not. As for everything else, yes, it's an interesting idea, but I see it as too easy for griefing. Not many people would honestly care about the election, and you'd find one guild getting really motivated and taking over the planet, and then raising planetary taxes to crazy amounts, while the citizenry can't do anything to stop them. All in all, an interesting idea, but how does one prevent some players from exploiting the system to grief other players?
