last week in politics

hrm, I didn't do much this week besides my own work... but I did update our top 5 (replacing sp usage with bug fixes) and posted it in the other corr forum. New Unity is still around, I log on to make sure everything goes well, but I haven't had much time to play who knew weddings were such a hassle?

This thread is suppose to be for you guys to tell me what's going on in your cities, and noone actually does that any more please do, and keep it in this post you can also mention your personal lives, but it better be interesting (or some sort of good news)

I'll throw out this question to make this week more interesting: how many of you are going to the next fanfest?

p.s.: happy chinese new year! I had to deal with the whole new year fiasco, and realized that my grandparents didn't tell my uncles and aunts that I was engaged... whoops

Well, if this thread is for all that is happening in Politics this week then this should apply:

I just got elected Mayor of my city!

To be honest, I'm surprised! It was a very close race and my opponent is very popular and would also make a fine Mayor. The end result was only 1 vote difference. (My fingernails can recover now) lol Wow.

Well if this is not what this thread is intended for, then please accept my appologies. But I just started reading through here today, so I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon.

I to was just elected mayor of Drei Monde, Naboo on Corbantis. One of the longest standing player cities. Infact if I remember right, city hall was laid down on publish day.

There was no glorified race however. I won the election of a metropolis with only three people total voting. So civic changes are gonna be slow until more of the citizens take up their civic responsibility and vote. (yes I'm running again with each election.) I'd really like to see some way for us to earn experience by means other than votes. That way I could work on city beautification and perhaps draw in more citizens to this historic city.

Our city was close to finishing to level the ground for the finalisation of our new town layout. But days before the last 3 buildings that are blocking a large free area have been destroyed, the authorities stopped it

Now we have to wait 4-5 months till we can clear that area and continue to revamp our town layout.

There a lot of unrest here cause most people were looking forward to it and moved their homes to new placed which took some of them days. All for nothing.

Tomorrow we also expect our weekly capped mail, as none of the authorities are interested in fixing the corruption that allowed other cities to breach the caps.

So it was just another frustrating week as we are not allowed to progess in any way

Our city's website has been upgraded to allow for some great new features, such as polling. I've used to polls to bring issues to the attention of the citizens, and so far the response has been good. We had a great discussion on sales tax based on a poll, and I used a poll to gage why the citizens weren't voting in the 3 week cycle. I hoped to drum up voter activity this voting cycle, but so far it isn't much higher than the last elections. Hopefully it will encourage the people who are voting to keep it up.

The foot traffic is still pretty slow, but sales on my vendors are picking up. Other town merchants are doing a great job of staying stocked, so I'm hopefull that the coming weeks will bring more people to the city. My goals for the next voting cycle, now that I have finished the town census are an inventory of trainers and decorations.

As for Fan Fest - I would love to attend, but geographically it seems very unlikely. I live in Maine, and I also have bridesmaid duties around that time that will probably prevent me from traveling. I personally hoped for an East Coast location, but it seems like the Fan Fests will have to be in California from the posts I saw.

Well, we've gotten a nice little boost in population, with several players from EQ2 taking advantage of the new SOE Access Pass thingy and coming back to SWG. Hoping will get a few more as the EQ2 grind starts to bore people, and word spreads of the SWG improvements.

I'm also really looking forward to the "event tools" the Devs have mentioned as coming soon, and already have a few plans in the works to take advantage of that stuff.

Traffic and vendor sales remain steady, and the cantina usually has a few people socializing there at night.

As for fan fest... California is just a bit too far. Was hoping for an East Coastlocation as well. Oh well.

Status on Farpoint (Metropolis, Research Center, Tatooine, Neutral/Imperial/Criminal):

Farpoint grew from 85 to 91 residents. I have been re-elected and people are satisfied with my work. Events are going off to everywhere, starting or ending in Farpoint. The Roleplay gets more intense over time, so I have to keep up with decorating and layout. I started a city deco contest with a 1st prize of 1 million credits from my own purse to get the lazy folks to decorate

Status on Farpoint Valley (City, Medical Center, Tatooine, Criminal/Rebel/Neutral)

We did it. Within 24 hours a big roleplay guild moved in after deciding that merging small and big cities together would make sense. Those are great folks, mature and very active, so we got in 21 (!) residents in( total of 56 now), most of them were settled within the last 1 hour before the city upgrade. I placed the Shuttleport 2 hours ago (6:30 am my time, CET) and informed the residents of both cities.

With the new shuttle the travelling from the "old" city to the "new" city will be much easier for the new guildies, so that hectic did have its pros.

I guess we are the first city complex and community in the game with a city and a metropolis being directly connected and a home of mostly roleplayers. That makes me proud.

Tempest Server

We just got metro back! We had been a metropolis in the beginning, but previous mayors had let the population slip down to the 70s. So now I just need to get the boxes I need to bring back the exotic gardens we had a long time ago. Right now I'm 0123 on the strength of a couple elections with decent turnout (around 20-30 votes each election).

I'm continuing my project to set up a mayor's mansion, with statues of previous mayors in front, with a nice garden. Eventually I hope this will be a space for hosting social events etc.

I also marked out a circle of waypoints 450m from the center of city hall, which will help a ton with planning layout. A new guild will be joining the city soon and I'd like to give them some dedicated space.

Furia, Kavala, Xana, Tarantella (Xana's alt, before NGE), all cancelled.(3 accts total)

First of all congratulations! More roleplaying cities regardless of server got to be good in my book

On Eclipse, Tirius - City of Roleplayers was designed from the ground up to be a haven for all factions to facilitate storylines and we attained metropolis on 16th August 2004. I know how proud we were that this was possible with just roleplayers, so I imagine you are feeling the same way. I hope that you find the fruits of being a large community of small groups and individuals as beneficial and conducive to fun roleplay as we do!

So, on with the report.

Current status of Tirius:
At a glance
Foundation date: 13th November 2003
Current Mayor: Kyorlana Hirak
Planet: Talus
Faction: Neutral (all welcome to facilitate rp)
Location: 2028 -4499
Website: www.tirius.co.uk
Citizens: 93
Structures: 189
Garage tax: 15
Income Tax: 2000
Property tax: 15
Sales tax: 0
Shuttle tax: 100
Specialisation: Research Center
Associated PA's: FC, IHC, ISV, ITC, MERCS, SIN, URA, and independent citizens

Community
The community had a huge shock recently when some key figures were involved in an impromptu scenario (having grown from many previous) which resulted in the permadeath of their characters. 2 arch enemies failed to take one another out and instead both perished. There were casualties on both sides including the permadeath of the mayor of Pax Eversio who had links with the criminal Black Hole Gang. The death toll was surprisingly high as the committment by these players to the storyline was such that they were willing to delete their characters as it made sense rp wise to do this (we use 'rp levels' so we know who is willing to go to this length and who isn't).

City Planning
To honour the fallen who died for what they believed in, it was agreed at committee, to erect a memorial garden in their honour. We chose the Corellian Shrine which is beside our shuttleport where some of the massacre happened.

A steady influx of new citizens is maintained without us doing any promotion other than rp encounters in game, reference to the city in our Bios, and our signatures on the SoE forums which is more than balancing those who are leaving the game.

Land usage in the city is ok, though I am concerned that once PA halls taking 5 lots goes live everyone will want one and we just don't have the space to support that (oh what we would give for terraforming!).

Commerce
After much debate the cabinet has authorised the addition of a roleplay mall in Tirius. We run a business district where everyone can furnish their own stores to maintain the character of the city so it was a heated issue. The decision was finally taken to go ahead and see what the impact is then review.
Our Commercial Relations Officer is also making a concerted effort at attracting business in sectors which we currently do not cover.

Council
Cabinet failed to meet in game this week due to my RL commitments, but having just had the city wide Committee meeting everything is ticking over well at the moment.
Still having some issues recruiting enough people for the Tourist Office and Embassy - but I'm sure we'll get there slowly!

Events
As always, lots going on in terms of planned events. Storynight is coming up again this weekend, followed by the Blushes of Love II party the weekend after.
The Tirius Plotline Network is currently running another monthly story arc which involves mini-scenarios etc, so all good there.

Summary
Still having fun though I wish I had more time to implement all that I want. I rely heavily on delegation hence the organisation structure with the cabinet, committee, and TPN (Tirius Plotline Network). This helps me time-mangagement wise and most importantly it instills (in those who commit time to the city) a greater sense of it belonging to all that live there, rather than just the elected mayor.

City Disaster!
With the changes to the point system, the previous mayor of Valor (metropolis on Dantooine) decided to sell his account and use his main character to run for mayor. I cheerfully opposed him and he conceeded defeat, pulled out of the race. I was a bit dismayed that much of the city seemed to have been built with server swaps and as such most of the houses were vacant. Hard to get ghosts to vote you know. Anyway, with only days to go before I would be elected another person in our guild took over the mayor account and (get ready to groan) deleted the mayor character to start a new one. We all logged on the next day to discover our city structures (7 mil in the treasury) all gone. There was even a surly family of Mokk camping in the spot where our city hall had once stood.

Nothing could be done about the stupid mistake except to drop a new city hall and start over. As mayor pro tem I have started our poor Valor over again from scratch and no xp. Discussions with the other two guilds in the city are going well but the abandoned houses are severely limiting our chances to grow. We have decided to pick up again and move to a completely new planet and start over so we can lay the city out properly and get away from the empty houses.

Word to the wise. If you hear your mayor talking about selling his account. Stampeed to the polls and request no action be taken until AFTER the new mayor is elected.
