This is kind of a tricky thread...I am not sure if I should post this on the Galaxies forum or here...But I have had, in my mind, a wounderful idea come to me....Though it will be hard to implement...But here it goes.....Any feedback would be great....But how hard, likely, interesting would it be to possibly start a server/galaxy government? Possibly having all, imp, reb, and/or neutral, politicians have meetings or boards to discuss buisness and basically any relations that need to be addressed throughout the galaxy? I just think that it would take many areas of the game to a whole other level.....But again we'll see...thank you for reading and posting any feedback.

you can certainly post here to ask for advice or comment, but the actual planning and announcement should be on your galaxy forum since those folks will be part of your "government".

Mase,

We are doing just that on Kettemoor. It has started planet by planet and we hope to eventually get it galaxywide.

Y' know we're dealing with a lot of people in this and if you've ever been part of a guild or a city... lotta people, lotta problems. But it's worth a try.

A galactic senate would be a great idea. But what would y'all do? You couldn't enforce any laws that you'd pass. Basically it'd just be sitting around shooting the sh*t. And that only if y'all would be on at the same time.

Unfortuneatley for RP purposes, at this time, there's no real inter-planetary government save for the "regional govoners" (Moffs).

Now, maybe PLANETARY elections would work, as a kind of Representative-Moff thing, like the Senate-Emperor thing that existed until EP IV. THAT exists at the Moff's sufferance--albeit the Moff's sufferance may be to allow an advisory council rather than deal with more local trouble and look like a fool to the Emperor.

Having said that, even Naboo still has it's elected body--we learn that from the Emperor's Retreat missions. So the idea of planetary governments reflecting the planet's pre-Empire customs gets me somewhat excited since there's neat stuff you can do with that.

Think about it: You are a resident of Naboo. You get to the representative body and after "getting elected" you get access to the political chambers.

Getting elected" should be a politician quest content ala the Bestine election, in the sense that you must first qualify to run in the Naboo assembly and then actually get elected. [Yeah, groan all you want, but SERIOUSLY, you GOTTA get elected or this makes no sense, and with an NPC gov't, I dunno how else you'd do it].

You have "phases" ala the village that go through a one month (30 DAY) period:
Phase 1: Politicking: You shmooze with NPC's
Phase 2: Debate: you debate an NPC after getting info on "local problems"
Phase 3: You get elected
Phase 4: You get to the assembly and vote--

There, you get a few electoral options that can add bonuses to cities or to factional quarrels (making politics a SERIOUS part of the GCW).

Bill Class 1: Economic: What bonuses get applied? Maybe crafter (manufacturing) bonuses? Maybe service (docs/ents) bonuses? Higher mission payouts? [must pick one]

Bill Class 2: Social-welfare: Vote on city benefit packages to reduce the burden of civty specialization. Or, vote to reduce building maintanence.

Bill Class 3: Peacekeeping: Pass a resolution denouncing (Rebel-reduced crackdown but more thugs) or approving (Imperial-greater presence) Imperial garrisons? Pass a resolution to support local militias (Nuetral-more RSF NPC's in cities and in the random spawns than either Rebels or Imps)?

I REALLY like this because, I think, the effects of Nuetrals on the GCW can be overlooked. Both the Empire AND the Rebellion had to win over people who just wanted to duck-out and wait for the shooting to stop.

Anythign beyond voting bonuses--i.e. asking peopel to do anything-- has an enforcement problem. Traie is right. There's just no way to enforce anything amongst players.

Neutrals> duck out and wait for the shooting to stop.

I completely agree with the hard/impossible to enforce anything...but with the devs making publish's, obviously lol, you never know what kind of revamp could be implemented in the politician field........but this is why this is just an idea I had and am starting to try and get rolling so that if it works maybe talking to the dev's to try and up the politician's importance....since it is minimal as is.....and make this even closer to how star wars actually goes.....and thank all of you for your feedback so far....and keep it coming please.

I love it, it's grand, it's politically epic, it's marvelous...

It's also impossible.

The reason being that a government without the ability to enforce a social agenda of some kind is basically a community watch program without the ability to call the cops if they see something supicious. There's no point. Due to the fact that the entire galaxy is run by NPC's (because the players would destroy the game purposefully or accidentally) there's no way for characters to lobby for their various interests. Without that, wide-scale government has no point. Politicians turn into social philosophers, quite happy to talk about how things could be, but incapable of enforcing a change of any kind.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, it's just the way it is, and the way it has to be for a game in which it is not possible for one character to force his will upon another. That's the beastial underside of politics. Without violence and the threat of death or at least punishment for non-conformity, politics is utterly pointless.

The closest thing to all of this that WOULD work is trade federations (...not... necessarily... Trade Federations) in which trade leaders from various player cities would meet and determine various things that could be traded in order to provide a decent amount of each type of resource or item in each player city. Bonuses of this are many: player cities without, say, a chef could still arrange to provide food in a vendor; a city with an abundance of a rare commodity could demand more of other commodities from other cities that want them (it's all basic economics on a one-level-higher-than-character scale).

The reason this would work is because it's a (largely) player driven economy. Thus, the system can be enforced to some degree by the players.

I also want to mention that getting together within the game to discuss politics within the paradigm of Star Wars is a great idea to me. I enjoy doing things like that, and hate to discourage it. If people actually do this regardless of the fact that they can do nothing to change it.... those people kick butt!!
