I'm ill today and need to take a break. I'll try to make a post when I feel better, otherwise my next "this week in politics" will be next wednesday as I'll be out of town. I'll ask another correspondent to watch over the forum for me then.
I'm off to get some rest, but if you leave a message here I will read it when I get back
I'm back slightly early

This week has started out on a much more optimistic note for my city. (Nabubu City, Naboo : Wanderhome)
I didn't post last week becuase we were in the middle of a very tense political battle... and it was very touch and go for a while. Things in our city have been going down hill since January when I resigned my post as mayor after my 6 month term was up.
Nabubu City was founded on the principles of equality between all our citizens... regardless of faction, race, or other considerations. The dream of Nabubu was to build a Neutral city where we could enjoy the community and the game together. We used to go on hunts and have little skirmishes in town between our Imperial and Rebel citizens, and overall we were a huge success. At it's peak we had about 170 citizens. I was the third in-game mayor, with a 6 month term, and we had one mayor during beta as well as one even before that. (Nabubu the community was formed back in 2001)
Well... our latest mayor decided to turn his back on the principles that our city was founded on. The major Imperial guild in town (of which I am also a founding member) had grown a lot while many of our Rebel citizens either left to play other games or weren't unified under a single banner. As a consequence he decided to turn our city Imperial. Rebel guilds and outside visitors started being banned from city services and our remaining Rebel citizens felt that the mayor wastrying to drive them away. In a sense he was. He organized a visit to our city by Vader, and promoted the view that Nabubu was Imperial. Which also drove some of our more prominent merchants away.
Finally... I just had enough. This guy was in my guild, I gave him the office of mayor when I stepped down... so I felt I had a responsibility to set things right. I prepared my speeches, and got set for a major campaign which I kicked off early last week. I knew it was going to be a tough fight, and I wasn't disappointed. Within2 days the election was 32/27 in my favor. Considering the active population (136 when I registered)and the fact that my opponent had about 10 alts at his disposal between close friends and family, I felt I was doing very well. That's when things started going south.
The incumbent removed all militia members and declared 'emergency powers'. Within 24 hours after militia being removed our population was at 146 and the election was now 33/33. Isaw a friend pop online who didn't vote earlier and managed to get it to 34/32 in my favor. (since by default their vote was for the incumbent)I approached the incumbent about adding new citizens in order to play dirty politics... I asked how many he would add just to win the election. His response was 'as many as it takes'. Obviously, I was not happy about that at all.
His actions and the resulting conversations on guild chat channels and the city chat caused an uproar by many citizens who were now fed up with the mess. Several citizens sent e-mails citywide (by typing all 140+ names out by hand) in order to suggest solutions to the problem. This was the response from our mayor.
Enjoy your City because soon unless I am swayed considerably the City Hall will be picked up, and I will be getting out of this so called friendly environment. You think before you attack people personally it affects their feelings and their behavior.
Now you just spoil it for yourselves, due to your childish attitudes, you might as well give yourselves a pat on the back.
Catch you Later Guys.
Consider that we have almost 20 million credits in the city treasury... we're the oldest city on Naboo, and the largest city on our entire server. We took that threat very seriously.
As a result, another prominent citizen stepped forward... one who stayed out of the fray up until that point... He volunteered as a compromise candidate in order to get us through these troubling times. I voiced my support for him and resigned from the race. The incumbent mayor at that point decided (thankfully) to follow suit.
So we can now welcome Marc Boarder as the new mayor of Nabubu City. Hopefully this will prove a turning point, and we will be able to mend relations between the different factions in the city. I know that I feel much better now that the city hall is safe and I trust Marc will do a wonderful job as mayor. I'm personally glad I don't have to go through it again, since one 6 month term is indeed enough.
I know this is a long story, so thank you for reading along... it has been the most interesting (and terrifying) political issue that has come up in our city since launch. I'm definately ready now for some good old peace and quiet.

The week in review:
We had an party or the opening of the new cantina in League City(St. Patrick's Day Party). The owner/host did a great job of putting together the party in a short time.. It was fun indeed, there were many many more people than I thought would come. Tested the racetracks for this event, they are a great activity to have in a city, for an event or just for fun. (learned a valuable lesson though. When programming waypoints, I left a "-" out of one of the cooradinates and it almost doubled the size of the track, hehe oops)
Added just a few citizens and hopefully can continue to grow very slowly and stabily. Have many citizens juggling houses and residences, the city is taking a new form gradually.
The week ahead:
This next week should be a calm one. I plan to just be available when possible and help where needed. Will get started on renovating the city hall I hope (hehe, that always seems to be on the "to do" list)

Intrepid Sever
Planet: Lok
City: Veteran's Retreat
We grew to rank 4 this week, and I placed my first shuttle
We are about 4 or 5 weeks old and have about 35 million in the treasury. We charge everyone a move-in fee that started at 250k, then 500k, then 1 mil, now 2.5 mil (increases by rank).
All of our private residences are tatooine guild halls and our merchants are either Small, Medium, or Tat Guild Halls.
We have a Cantina, Theater, Bank, Garage, and shuttle ... and will be placing a cloning center next week.
We have no gardens or factional terminals (I can't place them yet) ... but we are doing well.
Oh, and I hid the bounty hunter terminal inside the city hall, I figured it was more RPish to not have a BH terminal out in the open

The City of Wirralonia
Lok
Kettemoor
Incumbent Mayor: Coll Y'More
The story so far... after originally hoping to be based on Dantooine, where our guild, Rebo's Rogues, resided, we eventually took the decision to move to the less crowded planet of Lok, in the Karthakk system, to lay down our City Hall and mark the inauguration of Wirralonia.
That wasroughlysix weeks ago (two updates ago). We're still a Rank 1 city but are only a few citizens shy of reaching Rank 2, which will at least give us the chance of plonking down a garage which will help our never-ending stream of damaged vehicles - we have a love/hate relationship with the Nightsisters: we hate them, they love to destroy our bikes!).
The city is made up of a small core of regular players, consisting of mainly Master Swordsmen, Entertainers and Doctors. While we take our professions and ultimate goals quite seriously we certainly don't take each other seriously. There's plenty of banter and mickey-taking flying around and if you don't possess a warped sense of humour and/or a thick-skin then some folk might get offended quite easily.
The Week Ahead... well, we'll just do more of what we always do. Have fun, run missions, protect whatever Rebel bases we placeand generally have a good time. I'd certainly like to see us grow in size if we can find the right kind of people to fit in with our community (we're Liverpool, England-based players so the time we're on varies) but if not then we're happy as we are. We're located just over 3k south of Nym's Stronghold, just north of the lake in the centre of the planet. So, feel free to stop by and say hello. We promise not to bite... unless you want us to!
Regards,
Coll, Mayor of Wirralonia

Krayt Oasis
Tatooine
New to the forum. So new that I posted this to last weeks thread. Oops.
New to the forum. I took a break from the game and when i came back in I saw that Politician was a 0SP prof now. I had played with the idea before, but as a Ranger I have no skill points to invest. This change has been wonderful. I recently took up being the Mayor for Krayt Oasis. Its a humming metropolis and doing well.
The largest challenge that we seem to face is the fact that the city grew as opposed to being planned. I am beginning to form a plan to help add some design to the city, but it will take time since I am currently 1-1-1-1.
I am sure I may run into things that you folks have dealt with so I'll be making use of the search feature a bunch.
Since this weekend marked my first as Mayor, I started things off with a bang. I have a Lotto droid as opposed to the old method of distributing city lotto funds by die roll. I have also made use of other venues and such to add some life into the old town. I have reduced the tax on the citizens from 2000 to 1750. Raised the tax on the shuttle from 100 to 150. We are very close to the Krayt Graveyard and with the boom it makes sense to take advantage of the attention. The citizens have been happy with the moves so far and I am also happy to say that the old mayor has re-registerred to run.

I am the new Mayor of Perdition. The former mayor grew tired of the job and I agreed to take it over, seeings as how it doesn't take my skill points away...
I was elected on Friday. My first set of emails from the city system said:
"Congrats on getting elected!"
and
"City Structure Damaged: Insufficient Maintence on Shuttleport"
and
"City Structure Damaged: Insufficient Maintence on Cloning Center"
D'oh. I've been a citizen of 2 other player cities over the past 18 months, and seen them both rise to shuttleport statusand fall into oblivion. When my buddy said he was building a city on Lok and convinced all our friends and new guildiesto move, I went there, but told him that the whole venture was DOOMED. A good city costs too much and people won't support it forever. Somebody needs nearly bottomless pockets to financially back a city on an on-going basis. This was October of 2004, we got our shuttleport by mid-December.
So now I'm in charge. I have gone from 72 citizens to start, and added 2 more. Treasury costs 380k per week. CitySpecialization is Research Center, comprisinga full 1/3 of our weekly budget. Ifloated the possibility of dropping the RC, but quite a few people said they'd leave if we dropped it.
I donated 400k to start the Treasury, and put out a mail to the PA and citizenry of the city. I've read the FAQ and the forums about Politician and Cities and Housing. I've recieved 380k donations as of last night...
Who knows, my city might just make it.
