Thread: Removing City Specialization

Is there a way to remove a City Specialization while the City is only Rank 2?
Rank 3 is required to create a specialization, but since we have fallen to Rank 2 and have lost many active players, we need to drop the cost of this specialization.

The only option I see on the City terminal is for assigning a City Specialization.
Unfortunately, when I try to use that (Hoping to set the City Specialization as "none") a message just comes up that says your City has to be Rank 3 to use this option.

Our City was given the Research Specialization a while ago before I was Mayor, back when we had many more active citizens.

Currently I am trying to rebuild the City, but until we get more citizens we have to get rid of the price that this specialization costs.

Thanks for any help

BTW, I'm currently 1 1 2 1 Politician.

Seems like one of your only options may be to contact a CSR and see if he/she can't remove the specialization for you. They should be able to do it for you, especially if the terminal is giving you a headache like that. If a CSR can't help you and you are close to Rank 3, I'd say to try and recruit enough people to get to Rank 3 so that you canremove the specialization. That will probably go against whatever plan you have for your city, but you would at least be able to remove the specialization and save your city money in the long run.

I hope this helps a little bit. Hopefully somebody else might have some better advice.

Hrm...

The CSR told me He, didn't "think there was any way to REMOVE a specialization, only to change it to another one. Hope that helps, best of luck."
I'm curious if he's right or not.

I'm asking anyone here if you CAN choose "No Specialization" for your City after you have a specialization.

If you can, then I'll try and grab the citizens I need to bump me to Rank 3 so that I can make the switch.

If not, then I guess we'll have to destroy the City
Not what I was hoping for...

Can any of you Mayors of a Rank 3 or higher City choose to remove your specialization and set the City to No Specialization?

I'd really like to know if it's possible...

Thank you

Is it possible the reason you can not do this is because you are not of a level to do so? And wow...I am planning to make our city a research city but do not want to get stuck with 82K a week if we can not afford it.

The City has to be Rank 3 in order to gain a specialization.
Regardless of the Politician's level, you cannot access the Specialization Option on the Terminal's Radial Menu without getting the message that "Your city needs to be rank 3" in order to use it.

In order to create a specialization, the Politician has to have a skill box that grants a specialization... I have wondered, if I had the skill-box for Research Facility Spec... if that would make any difference. I don't think so, but since no one seems to know anything about this, it's all guess work.

It just seems silly that you can't remove a specialization at any time or level.
I inherited a City that was falling fast and I can rebuild it, but first I have to be able to lower the costs of things. Too much time may have gone by now... I'm not sure I'll be able to turn things around at this point.

Since my City is Not Rank 3 right now, I need someone else to check their Rank 3 (or higher) City Terminal to see if there is an option for "No Specialization".

If there is not, then I have no option but to take it down and possibly restart...

If city caps aren't a problem you could just destroy the city and restart it.

There is a "No specialization" in the option on myrank 4 city. I have not tried it though to see if it works, but I think it should.

Why have it there if not?

You should be able to change it, as for being level 3 city? Hmm Once a city drops below the required level stuff for that level usually dissappears, like if you are level 4, and then drop to level 3, the shuttleport will usually dissappear.

As for political skill ... should matter when trying to remove it, but it might in this case, as you are not really removing it, but changing it to NONE. My recomendtation is get the skill, and get the city level, then try it.

Thank you!!

Now that I know this, at the next cycle I should be able to get the City to Rank 3 and we should be able to save it.

I think CSR's should find things out before telling the players incorrect information, eh?

Hey Delphen... this is also Yrk from Tarquinas!
Long time no see... I miss the great community over there, but I have too many attachments on Kauri.
I'm attempting to form a solid RP community over here, the one on Tarq really inspired me to get back to what I originally wanted to do in this game.

One day, I should be able to log in on both more often.

Scan some citizens and hand out some fines for me, would ya?

About the City losing things when the rank drops...
Yeah, Shuttle Ports and things like that go away, but unfortunately Specializations don't, so you can really get into a mess if the Rank drops and you can't afford the specialization any more, because you cannot get rid of it (Like with me).

Either the specialization should disappear or the option to remove it should remain.
Neither of those is the case though.

Take care... and Yrk says, "Long live the Empire!"

May the force be with you.
