Thread: Recruiting citizens away from another player city

The other day, in the city I am mayor of, I saw someone trying to get one of my citizens to move to his city. No big deal, I thought. The citizen was a MDE, so I figured he was trying to get a diversity of crafters or something. Besides, my citizen gave him a firm "no."

Last night, the same guy was back, trying to recruit another citizen. This time, I put up the Master Tailor title and then had the guy pitch his city to me. I'll admit, at this point, I was pretty angry. I thought it was in bad form to recruit for a player city, in another player city. I listened for awhile, changed my tag to Master Politician, and asked him to notice it. Well, he felt pretty bad, and agreed to stop making our city his recruitment operations center. We ended up having a nice discussion about how hard it is to start a city, but how rewarding it could be. I offered him advice and training. (He did try to squeeze me for a treasury donation, which I declined.)

I personally consider it bad form to recruit away from another player city. However...

I've been to several player events in other cities and seen people either new to the game or the server wandering around having a look.

I grabbed 'em!

Like combat... y' go to where the targets are and y' bag 'em.

In very bad taste but at least he's got one thing right that a lot of poloticians can't seem to grasp.

At least he was smart enough to try to recruit the people that would be around in the future instead of grabbing up every poor soul that wanders by.

Its funny how many folks try to recruit me whenI am standing in my own mall with my Armorsmith title up. My mayor has been VERY good to me most of the time I am polite and say no but a few times I just banned them.

The leadership of Aurora, long ago, agreed not to actively recruit individuals from other cities. When we hear that whole guilds are looking to relocate we submit our proposal telling them how they could be enjoying a better life in Aurora and hope that they choose to move into our community. But we do not start the conversation. We always wait until someone is actively looking or comes to us and wants to know more.

One thing too I realised the other day was that if a politician is trying to recruit other players away from your city it could be because the planet is capped and he noticed that you are right on the edge of losing a status that he wants to gain. Recruiting a citizen away from your city would bea double bonus in that you would lose your rank so he could gain his.

Very bad form and taste either way.
