I think it's a fairly well recognised problem with the profession now, that hitting mastery is pretty much when you run out of new things to do as Mayor. Beyond the placing of a new structure added to the game, or re-enlisting someone to the militia because they moved house, there isn't a lot to do.

I would like master politicians to engage in politics on a planetary level. I'd like to see the GCW and imperial crack-down play a part in player cities.

Here's a couple of scenarios to ponder:

1. Master Politicians, holding the position of Mayor are added to a planetary senate. These senators elect a representative from amongst themselves to determine policies, such as whether imps patrol player cities, or whether rebs get bonuses against imp scans. This makes the GCW different on every server and every planet, and becomes something that is not predictable.

Representatives hold power for a month or two, and cannot be re-elected to the position for 3 more cycles. (hopefully ensuring a good mix of imp/reb/neutral reps) In all cases the imps would have to remain having the upper hand, as was the position in SW at the time, but that grip over a planet lessens or strengthens according to the choices of the rep.

2. taking this further, the 10 reps could vote for a planet that gets a monthly GCW event of some kind. The rep from the planet that had the last one being excluded from the vote so a tie is impossible.

Both of these involve the politicians in what is really politics. They have to persuade their fellows to elect them, or at least try build alliances and power bases, and then they see their choices having an impact on the game.

3. As an alternative idea, every citizen could vote where their alliegance lies and the mayor can veto it, only to neutral.

e.g. if a city declares reb alliegance, the mayor can say, "no we're staying neutral", but not go to the opposite faction.

A cities alliegance could promote a GCW event, or imperial crackdown on the player city.

4. Optionally, again, this could go to planetary level, where the alliegances of the cities are tallied and initiates a GCW event on the planet.

These sort of scenarios, make us more involved and caught up in the GCW, and makes the politician actually involved in politics. There is more to the GCW than getting the combat right. There's the whole feel of the political atmosphere at the time, I think these ideas, or something like them, would go a long way to getting that into the game.

Good idea!

Too bad there really are no "Politicians" in the current timeline. The senate has been "swept away".

Just a thought.

The current timeline? ... *laugh*

Please, when will you people realize that the continuity card can't be played anymore?

I bet that in "the current timeline" not everyone and their aunt owns a combat capable astromech droid ora fanged battle-monstereither.

Being a former Politician on 2 different servers, I like the idea too! Would add a something worth while to the role, definatly.

True, but I'm not sure the Devs read the story either.

I kind of like this idea. It would make politician more interesting at least. A few kinks would need to be worked out (what happens if a planetary senator cancelled their account or went inactive before their term was over, for instance?), but it could make a good starting point.
