Some of us aren't lucky enough to have a city placed on totally flat land, and it can screw up city planning when certain chunks of the city are unplacable due to ditches and scuh. Maybe there could bea terrain modification option somewhere in the politician skillset that would allow them to do something about it. I know that bases and other structures change the surrounding terrain, so this wouldn't be much different. It's not that big of a problem just a suggestion.

I agree. Planets, like correlia, have tons of ditches. I'm not saying we should have the ability to destroy mountains. Just give me a shovel so I can fill the ditch.

I find the cities on totally flat lands to be the unlucky ones. Our city on Corellia has plateaus, gullies, slopes, swamps, ponds, ditches and all sorst of fun terrain. Sure, it makes it hard to line up rows of houses, but straight lines doesn't make a city. Try organizing seperated neighborhoods in the different areas, using streetlamp "roads" to connect them.

I dont think that having a city totally flat is that good. I would rather have houses able to be built on worse terrain, I like the hills of Mos Krayt, one of the PA halls in our city is ontop of a huge hill, and all the houses are below, it looks great. We already noticed the devs relaxed the rules for placing houses a few months ago, it would be good if they relaxed them further and added this to other structures. Maybe when placing a city hall it should be made flat 50-100m infront of it, but thats all.

Our city was founded before you were able to place houses on hillsides and stuff (and get that funky basement-where-there-is-no-basement brickwork foundation). If we had been able to build on hills, we would have definitely built on the nearby hillside and had a very pueblo-looking city (or at least we coulda thought that direction). As it is...flat is nice too...

Some people like having the uneven terrain, but it would be fair to have the option to flatten it. Personally, I think not being able to flatten at all is a huge pain.

Houses look awesome when placed on hillsides. The base raises up and they gain steps.
We have a kinda hilly area. We have all the houses surrounding the hills looking down on the lowlands.
We reserve the lowland valley areas for civic structures and deco. It's made natural roads in our city. ![]()
We would like to remove one or two puddles though ![]()

We just started a city out on Rori, and if you've been out there you know how bumpy and swampy it is. I spent two days with a friend out there riding around looking for one of those nice flat spots that some of the other cities had, but it was not to be. We wound up about 4K west of Restuss on an area that was hilly but had less little patches of water to deal with. Turns out I really like it that way! Most of the housing is the naboo style, and when you come upon the city, it really looks nice with all the housing rolling up and down the landscape.
My only hope is that we'll be able to find reasonable places to put some of the larger structures like the cantina, cloning center and so on.
The City hall was placed friday around 10:30pm, and by the same time the following day, we had an offical town!
Our guild is called Legendary Lunacy, and the city is called Inner Sanctum. We are an open faction guild and city, with no faction bases, at least not within the city limits. We also welcome other guilds in the city. We have the beginnings of a mall, and it's all beginning to take shape
Ever since the player cities came out I had wished I could have the chance to start one, but I had pretty much come to terms with the fact that it wasn't going to happen, until 2 RL friends who also played wanted to start a guild. We discussed starting a city and next thing I know I'm a mayor
I dropped all my combat skills to get to architect, artisan and start on politician. I'm having more fun right now than I ever had in the game, and I hope we can have a great city!
I have spent a lot of time here reading the boards, but if you have any info or tips for a new politician, I'm all ears.
Thanks!

So...I got reall small troubles in the terrain like trees, really small ditches and bumps etc etc....that make it harder and harder to get the city looking nice and non-chaotic as it growes (we hit lvl4 about 1½ week ago).
I'm asking...is there any way at all to flatten the terrain out so I can place the houses where I want them? I'm not asking for a completely flat area, just to make the slopes a bit smoother so I can place the houses etc where I want (I like slopes...just not with so many extreme bumps in them
)

Faction Bases: the only true bulldozers in the game
Of course, the only things you can place on this beautifully flattened terrain are gardens, decorations, and streetlamps. After this you are just forced to get creative with your city layout. Use the terrain to your advantage and place your houses properly. Outside of this, you are kind of screwed. And don't get your hopes up on getting a "bulldozer" tool anytime soon. There are some insane technical hurdles that will prevent such a tool from ever being in game.

thought so.
On a ide note...I didnt mean to get the terrain perfectly flat and horizontal (that's justdull!)...I just wanted small imperfections in the terrain to be...edited. So that my city plan would work out.

I feel your pain.
I remember when I used to help run a city out by Imperial Oasis on Tatooine..... Those carcks all over the place (I like to call them "war trenches")..... Yeah, those are really annoying... lol

2 things I want to see dont with player cities.
1 Increase of visibility of houses in the city so that you can see it from afar, instead now it looks like its all waste land until you get within 100 meters of a house, making an option in the graphics settings for housing or cities wouldnt not be too much work for the devs kinda like flora distance.
2 Increase the terrain tolerance on buildings just a tad to allow better placing and redo the height adjustments that entails so that we dont get these massive blocks showing under them.
