Just curious. I heard back in the day, the DEVS were going to implement private cities.

I'm also curious on anything pertaining to the Militia branch of the Poli skill tree.

NPC guard huts...

Anything?

Actually, the original philosophy was that cities were public places, not like PAs where you have to get permission to join. According to the original philosophy, there would have been no restricted zoning rights. I was surprised when the zoning rights powers appeared along with the initial implementation of player cities, and it appears to have been the right decision since I think player cities use them almost unanimously, even the open cities in order to make sure houses aren't just thrown down anywhere.

Yes, but in the original design Mayors had eminent domain rights to get that house that sits where the garden should be someplace else, too. Zoning rights are necessary just to avoid someone coming and saying "Ooohh, nice city, let's put my house in front of the shuttleport.", even if they don't have malicious intent.

Would it be ridiculous to let a Mayor move a house (contents intact)and have the system automatically email the effected player a waypoint to the new location?

They've been bantering that about for ages.. it's easier just to enact zoning and direct where said house should go in the first place.

True, but some cities were founded where other had already placed houses.

For instance, my guild merged with another guild and decided to use their PA area to start our City. Problem was, there were about 10-20 houses that people had placed that either left the game, or decided not to move them.

I would still like a feature for mayors that allowed them to /examine a structure to find it's owner.

With all the greifers in the game, That would have been horrible. People would be creating temporary characters and placing down hundreds of minefields and mineral extractors. Any sence of city planning would be lost. I personally wouldnt have even made a player city if that were the case.

Easier for whom? I easily spend an hour per day moving new people in and moving existing people into bigger houses or different spots.

I'd LOVE to have this feature. Can't they just add this as something Mayor's see when we examine the house sign? Would make it so much easier to contact those people who were grandfathered into our city and ask if they'd mind moving.

Any chance of this, Baj?

Well moving the house with everything inside of it staying in place is impossible. That's why you have to get everything taken out before you redeed, otherwise it goes poof. What would be best/nicest is if they would let us just drop a house and not have it count against us for a day. Transfer it to the new citizen (after you perfectly align it to your city plan) and there you go. True that can happen simply by using your lots, but some of us dropped PA halls, are crafters and are therefore full with harvs and factories, or have large homes and can't drop another large to help out.

It isn't possible with the systems ingame at present ... but in the pre-city phase the devs originaly told us mayors would get the abbility to move houses around. Only in the first city-chat about a month befor the patch went to Test did the Devs say they where probably not going to implement this feature ... They were concerned it could be used to grief players (they wouldn't know where their house is or I don't know) but I also suspect it would have been a pain for the devs to program and they decided rather not to take the "more difficult" pat
