I am watching the mayor of a city I frequent get griefedas people simply after the title try and convince him to step down, often with less-than-appropriate behavior and language.
It brought to mind a concept that Iwanted to run past this community... the idea would be to create a way to gain Politician XP, very slowly, without the use of a city or vote.
Factional Point conversion to Politician XP in the same way it is currently used for weapon, combat, crafting, medical, scouting, and Squad Leader skills, with the idea being the politician has strong ties to that faction in edition to his citizens. If you look at the list of "trainable skills", it looks like an oversite that politician isnt listed!
Even withthe exchange rate at 1:1 like all other skills,it could be enough to ease the pressure people are trying to place on existing mayors, while at the same time offer enough of a challange to never really be an issue. With 74k xp from start to finish,it wouldnt neccissarily be flooding the community with cityless master politicians. The maximum 'surplus' a Colonel can hold is 60k, and smugglers charge at least 120 cr per fp, even up to 200cr now! That places a total buyout of 74k at 8.8 million, a large sum for even the wealthiest of guilds and persons.
The only current means is for them to try and get a vote or two and run for mayor themselves...
Just looking for a means of releiving some of the pressure from actual mayors, as well as keep us citizens and visitors from dealing with "Join my city!" or "Vote for me instead, I'll pay you!" spammers. The job looks tough enough, I'm sure you font need more damands!

Somebody wants a payday getting people their warmaster tag.
hehe
Really though, I was hoping I was wrong about this...but I'm even starting to have good citizens tell me they want to get their master politician or warmaster tag on our city, not realizing that the few mayor tools that do work are kinda necessary to keep things working...

And what about those mayors that are not factional? Leave them out in the cold?

True... but I dont see an easy route for them... however... as unfactioned you could always use smugglers to gain what you need +200 to join temporarily. Simply train as you buy?
Fortunately, this would be more a solution for those only trying to "grind" a new profession into their template, taking pressure off those who honestly are trying to be Mayors. Chances are the majority of them are either fasctioned already, or have no quams to joining one or the other temporarily.
As to the payday comment, heck, wouldnt you? The point of the post isnt to make me creds neccissarily. I suspect that would be a temporary gain of business over a month or two, hardly something to bank on. The point it to offer an alternate means. Something to change the current pressures to try and "take" a city to grind.

I don't really see this as being a long term problem that needs a fix implemented.
I have not personally seen this in my travels yet, and I visit a lot of player cities as well as being Mayor of one myself. If it is happening on a wide scale I think it is just a passing facy that will go by the wayside very quickly.

At the release of player cities the devs didn't put in a FP <-> Poli XP exchange to make sure every player has the same chances of reaching master politician at the same time ... based off of their city and not their wallet (don't know if this is really realistic if I look at real politics
, but it's a noble idea).
I would like to see other politicians to be able to gather XP other than being mayor (that's what our profession is called after all) ... and also have something else to do except gouvern a city alone ... I'd like to see quests involving NPCs and players that grant you XP (so you activly play a politician instead of buying XP) and I'd like you to be able to influence a tiny spectrum of the overall picture (not only GCW FP payout - but maybe XP payout in general etc) by doing so.
Being able to simply buy XP through FPs would certainly reduce the need for quests as XP source by a great deal ... (but who's going to listen to a 0-skill-point "profession" anyway)

Neutrals are left in the cold anyway when it comes to trading fp for xp

If someone wants politician xp, let them run against a mayor, have debates, or whatever, and try to convince the citizens that they would be better off with a new mayor. most citizens will see right through someone who is only seeking a badge or a profession title.
The thing to keep in mind, is that politician skills are USELESS if you are not the mayor of a city. There is nothing that a non-mayor politician can do, so it would be pointless to institute a method of gaining xp without being a mayor.
Yes, the "Warmaster" tag is a really neat tag to have, and i'm excited to finally wear this tag, but i have been the Mayor of New Kabala since July '04 when we founded our city on Lok. Due to my love for being a Ranger, I did not have the skill points available to get all of the skill boxes i needed ot truly serve my city in the way that it deserved. For instance, if I wanted to place new city decorations, I needed to drop the manage militia box, as well as the trainer and mission terminal boxes. But now I finally can give my city what it needs/wants. People have been asking for an Imperial Faction Terminal in our town for quite some time, and I am proud, and relieved to finally be able to say that anyone coming to New Kabala on Lok in the Lowca Galaxy can obtain orders from the Imperial Army via our uplink with the Imperial Base on Lok.

Ok, how about this for reasoning:
Aside from the Pilot professions (which are deliberately held seperate from the ground game), Politician XP is the only basic XP not available through a faction recruiter.

I one starred you. I'm not a bandit, I just think that one of the few lines of defense we have left against jonny skillpoint noob trying to take our jobs, is that we can be masters ( I was going for this before the SP removal). With any old person being a master politician, that defense is gone.
One word: Dedication.
Some of us have it, some of us celebrate sp removal.

The dedicated politician is no real trouble. Master or no Master a dedicated hard working mayor will not get unseated,
However it would be nice to be abel to purchase the xp via fp like everything else. I for on am transferring mayroship from my alt to my main so I do ont have to log in my alt as much. I would like the option.
