I knew I wasn't crazy... Yes, awhile ago, Gary "JustG" Gattis made a post that included City Missions as an upcoming feature. As the schedule changed drastically, this was totally swept under the rug and forgotten about. Until now...
For your viewing pleasure, and an attempt to revive the topic (and maybe, just maybe, get some "official" word on what these were going to be), here's what he said... Strangely, there's no date for this letter, but it's before Publish 8, so let that give you an idea of how old this is:

- A Veteran's Rewards system that will allow you to earn a bunch of cool things, up to and including an exclusive starship when "Jump to Lightspeed" launches!
- In-game leader boards.
- New mission types for player cities.
- A preferred "Jump to Lightspeed" beta program for existing subscribers/veterans.
- A Character Transfer System to move between galaxies.
- And a few other crazy things along the way!
So, how about it? Obviously, if this was less than 60 days away from an announcement, they must have at least had a concept for them, right?

was just another lie to try to silence the politicians
devs promissed tons of things that never have and never will happen
and according to the current path the devs go with player cities it seem clearly that they wantto get
rid of them

Well, not sure I agree they want to get rid of player cities...
I'm just trying to dig up the idea again, and maybe refresh some memories and see if we can get this put back in the pipeline... Doubt it, but oh well.

Anything NEW for player cities would be aweome. City missions would be a great feature!
Along the lines of things we had heard about, but never seemed to happen - I seem to remember talk of NPC's that would try to bribe citizens to not vote for the mayor (or something like that). Does anyone remember that?

Placing NPC's who give quests would be nice.
Dunno about bribers trying to alter the course of the election thou...
