Thread: City Structures and Lots

Question: I know that City Halls take no lots, since they are municipal structures. However, I was testing the placement of a cantina (since I know that placing Merchant Tents requires skill I don't have from attempting to drop one) for skill requirements.. and I got "This structure requires 5 lots, you have 2 remaining" ..

Isn't a Cantina/Bank/Hospital etc a Civic Structure, and therefore shouldn't take lots? My local Entertainer doesn't have that space available.. (and from what I remember, I shouldn't have been able to attempt to place a Cantina at *ALL* since I have no Entertainer skills whatsoever..)

I'm also going to be placing a Bank after today's update. Does that mean I'm dedicating lots to civic structures??

What's going on here?

A Cantina, Theatre, or Hospital are considered player-owned structures that require certain players to place them and more importantly require a Player-City to be placed in. They are paid forby maintenance just like any house. Civic structures that are paid for using tax money are the Bank, Cloning Center, Shuttleport, and most obviously City Hall. These do not take up any of your lots and can only be placed by the Mayor of a Player-City.

A Cantina can only be placed by a Master Chef, Master Dancer, or master Musician. A Theatre by only a Master Dancer or Master Musician. And a Hospital by only a Master Doctor.

Er.. I'm not a complete idiot, I *am* a Mayor of a Village. However, as I'm sure you know, the city terminal will support a bank/cantina at village level -- and as I'd said, Merchant tents *will* return an error message when a "non qualified" person tries to place one; and as such, the Cantina *should* have told me I'm not qualified to place it...

But it did NOT. I am nowhere NEAR a Master Entertainer/Musician/Dancer/Chef. So why should I have been allowed to place this structure if I had the lots? (which I do not).

Something's flukey.

I have a feeling if you did have the lots it would say you aren't qualified. There may not have been a messege coded in for someone trying to place that has no lots and is not qualified. It may look at your lots before it looks at your qualification, so you are unable to place due to lots, but if you had the lots you would be unable to place due to qualification.

Hope that helps.

Much better, thank you. I tried the experiment again with a similarly unqualified person who *did* have the lots available.. and it wouldn't let him plant it because of "lack o skillz". So indeed it much check available lots before rejecting a placement from someone not qualified.

Oh well. Guess I'm just going to have to wait.

On a side note (if this doesn't get burried).. Does anyone know what happens (in this day of Jedi-madness) when a qualified person drops a city structure such as a cantina or hospital.. then drops the skill that allowed them to place the building? Does it still remain (and in usable condition?)? Or would it at worst poof, at best close it's doors to the public until transfered to a suitable owner?
