Thread: A question / plea to Politicians and Guild Leaders

Hi Y'all,

For two weeks now our Mayor and the the Head of our Guild have both been missing. Sounds like a Scooby Mystery, but it's all too true I'm afraid.

On Saturday the town'smission terminals started disappearing - due, we guess, to maintenance not being paid on them.

A number of concerned citizens are now starting to panic that our town and guild are both going to dissapear from under our feet, and that there's nothing we can do about it.

So my urgent plea to both classes is; what can we do to save our town? I'll happily become either mayor or guild leader or both (is that possible?) but we're a one horse town at the moment, nobody else has got any politician xp so would we immediately lose trainers, terminals etc? Also if starting from scratch with 0 politican points how long is it going to be before we can get the town back to how it was?

Any help would be appreciated guys.

You won't lose anything for not having any politician experience, you just won't be able to replace what you have already lost until you get the politician skills. If you are losing stuff due to lack of funage though, I would recommend putting some more money in the treasury in the mean time. Any citizen can do that at the city management terminal inside the city hall (left-hand wing as you are walking in).

Just get you novice politician and run for mayor, and persuade the active citizens to vote for you. That is for the mayor, for the guild leader i don't know if it is possible to do it without the leader itself.

We had our guild leader leave once upon a time, I can answer that one.

The guild as it stands is in no danger provided someone pays the maintenance on the hall (at the term to the left as you walk in, in the small room near the stairs). However, it may be that no one but your leader can add members. That can be a problem in the long run, as typically when guilds do not grow or at least maintian a certian number of players they tend to wither and die off.

The only way to address the issue is to have a member drop a newPA hall. Once that is done you will need to change the guild tag, even if only slightly, as duplicates are not allowed (ex. we were <GD> and changed to <-GD->.After that each member will need to remove themselves from the old guild by using the /guildremove command.

At least I think that was the command... this happened about 6 months ago, and we recovered quite well since then. We're a large, healthy active guild now. A piece of free advice though. You might want to wait another week or two to see if your old leader shows up. Two weeks is not all that long a time in the real world when a real situation occurs. Unless he parted on bad terms, it may be simply that a family member fell ill or some such, and he is looking forward to returning ASAP.

i wish you the best of luck. CCV, Dantooine, Tempest just went through a very similar problem. Unfortunately our mayor was having comp problems and came back to see someone (me) "trying to take over" ... and up rooted city hall. So we really had to start over. New city hall, get 10 current citz in their homes within 24 hours. Very stressful, but we pulled through.

I am proud to say that since 3/11 we have grown to 33 citz (only 5 from where we were when ch was pulled). We are still missing trainers, gardens, and a bank ... but only because when last mayor yanked ch, it took all the city structures with it. And unfortunately ... we had no Nov.Poli's in town. So I tood over as a noob to the prof.

So yes, I say best of luck to you. And if you take role of mayor to save your city ... by all means, do what it takes to save the city. Devotion to your city first, devotion to your leader second. And if you have an understandable mayor, they will see the good you have done and be proud of the citizens for stepping up and taking action rather than letting the city fall to rubble around them.

Thanks for your advice guys,

The Guild Hall went 'poof' about an hour ago - shame I spent 3 hours and about 30,000cr yesterday redecorating it. It was full of rare loot and drops, stocked vendors and furniture. Sigh. Bummer.

So placing a new Guild Hall seems like the only option at this point. Thats if we can find someone to volunteer to be Guild leader.

I've just picked up Novice Politician since we've heard from one of the guild members that they spoke to another member who lives with the mayor IRL (students at Uni I think) and they're not coming back, they're goingto playWoW instead. I'm very disappointed that they couldn't have bowed out gracefully and with a proper handover periodrather than just pulling the plug like this and leaving all the other long standing guild members and town inhabitants high and dry without a clue as to what's happening.

The problem is that as incumbent Mayor he commands a lot of ghost votes from members none of us have ever met. I suspect he's got a few dodgy votes along the way. In order to become MayorI need more votes than the remaining residents can supply. Sheesh.

TBH with you, unless the remaining members are really committed, this last ditch attempt to save the town and Guild is likely to get derailed as soon as it starts. Having to plump up for a new Guild Hall and recompense the owners of the vendors for their lost stock is likely to be a sore point for most people.

It's the beginning of the end....

Nobody's fault, but the money and time that I've wasted over the last 4 or 5 months on this Guild, and the Guild Hall,is incalculable. And there's no way to get that back, no way to restore all our hard work. Its times like these that you wonder why you're paying real world money for this game month-on-month; this is no fun for anyone involved...

as long as the city has enough credits in treasuery for maintenance, the city will go on, even if Mayor never signs back on again. Running against mayorsi verydifficult - as soon as you register, he'll show up as incumbent with all votes atumoatically going to him. This might've been fixed in Publish 7, but not sure about that. Just make sure that all the active palyers AND new citizens vote for you.

If your Mayor has been banned for some exploits, CSRs might help you out. But if he/she is just inactive - you are on your own

As for the "ghost" citizens - that's a commong occurense. You can send them an email, explaning the situation and asking them to help out. Or hope that they are inactive and will be removed 6 weeks from now.

Sorry about the Guild Hall!

Anyhow, assuming someone is in the militia, you're not dead in the water with your city yet. First, you need to donate to the city treasury. Any citizen can do this from the City Management Terminal in city hall. This will keep you from losing any more structures. Second, you need to defeat the existing mayor. Sure the incumbant votes are a problem, but the next city update should eliminate any "ghost" citizens your mayor might have picked up - the 6 week inactivity rule goes into affect with this week's update. Of course, any new citizens your militia can add should be able to vote for you. Between the loss of ghosts and new adds, you should be able to get elected.

I think everybody here coverd how to handle the City issues, so here's some info on the Guild part of it...

Just because the Guild Hall decayed doesn't mean the Guild is dead. ANY Guild member who puts down a new Guild Hall, that Guild Hall automatically becomes bound to their Guild. The reason for this is to allow such things as big guilds having Guild Halls on each major planet, or something similar.

Once you have the new Guild Hall placed, Guild members can use the Guild Management Terminal to change their "loyalty" to you. Once enough members do this, you will be switched to the new Guild leader, and the Guild is saved! This was slightly buggy awhile ago, but I'm pretty sure it works now. The annoying thing is there's no way to see how many members are loyal to who, so way to tell how close you are to tipping the scales towards a new leader being elected.

And, and since the way to switch loyalty isn't obvious, I forget the exact steps, but it basically involves bringing up the Members List, selecting the name of the new person you want to declare loyalty towards, clicking the "OK" button, then on the next pop-up screen, confirming that's who you want to switch your loyalty to.

Good luck!

Thanks all,

We managed to get through 'black monday' as it shall evermore be known with a guild of 8 active members remaining, all of whom have decided to stick with it and move the guild off-planet : the area around coronet has become very busy indeed on our server since the days we first set up the town there. Since a lot of the other planets are more or less empty on Infinity (we're a funny old server really) we'll be deciding where to go and heading off to pastures new at the weekend. If anything, this hiccup seems to have strengthened the core guild members' resolve to make the guild and the city succeed, so theres a definite silver lining here.

Someone spoke to the guild leader about 20 days ago, so we're hopeful he's just away on holiday or the suchlike, so for now we'll leave the guild as is. It's a shame about the loss of the guild hall, we reckon in total there was about 2million cred worth of stock and decorations went 'poof', so a harsh lesson has been learned. I'd like to think there'll be less grumbling about taxes for a while now..

Cheers everyone for the help and support, I'll no doubt be seeing you allaround on the politician boards ...

Sorry to here about your situation. As an alternative to struggling on without a mayor, I have set up a town on Tatooine called Phoenix Heights. If you would like to come there you are quiet welcome. We have 30 members at the moment and it has been around for just over a week. I have placed mission terminals but need the 35 ppl to gain a level to place more civic structures, (although i have the deeds to a cantina, garage, hospital, cloaning, and bank in my pocket!).We have an active guild also which you are welcome to join, or you may build a new guild hall in the city to retain your old identity. Send me an in game mail if you are interested or check out www.plps2guild.co.uk for our guild information.
