Hello, I am NOT a politician, and I apologize for stepping into your arena, but I have a situation I'd like to see addressed and this seems the most pertinent forum. It may even have been addressed already, and in that case, great, please post the link so I can get a warm fuzzy feeling over the solution.

Before the announcement that players who did not log in for 6 weeks would have their homes, etc, removed from the game, several players I know sank large amounts of maintenance into structures so they would be there when they returned from A) Basic Training, aka Boot camp, 2) Longer than average rl military deployment during which they would not he playing SWG.

Being a military member myself, this concerns me, as the number of American servicemembers playing this game is a fairly decent sized percentage. I volunteered to anyone in my guild that I know who is about to be deployed to place me on admin to keep their houses, etc, intact for them. Now it seems that this may have been a false promise to them, since some can't even be contacted now to let them know "Sorry bud I tried to help you out, while you were out doing your job, but SOE decided to change the rules".

Personally, since I started playing SWG, I have been deployed once, for 3 months, if I had returned to all my belongings being gone, I would also be gone, gone from the game, for good. I really hope that SOE has taken people in this unique kind of rl job into account, and if not, will soon, otherwise, say hello to another disgruntled player demographic, the American military.

Not to sound unsympathetic or mean, I have nothing but respect for the men and women who serve in the armed forces. I used to be in the army myself, but to expect special treatment because you are going on extended postings in not really fair nor realistic compared to the needs of others who play the game as well. The 6 week inactivity decision was a bad one in of itself, but to expect the CSRs to take into account what a player does for a living is unreasonable. Where do we stop doing special requests or treatment for players?

Tell someone you trust your username and password and have them log on once a month for you. I have done it before and will do it again if the situation arises. If the game is important enough for you to worry about losing your citizenship because of your posting, then it is worth it to take the 10 minutes to ask someone to take care of your character for you while you are away.

Sorry to sound callous, but special treatment is not the solution to the 6 week inactivity code, perhaps a CSR ticket asking to not be removed and providing reason? Then they could track your character and account for inactivity? I dunno, there just has to be a better solution, and not just one for the people in the military. I had to disappear for almost a week while my baby was born and she spent the first week of her life in an incubator in ICU. I nearly lost my house over itdue to low maintenancebecause my baby was delivered5 weeks early. Luckily enough, someone from my guild thought about it and paid my maintenance.

Ah, thank you very much for the clarification, and I do hope that that is truly the case in fact

As to sounding like I went out looking for special tratment, naw, not my intention to sound that way, what I more meant was, it was a crying shame that some who left BEFORE the rule change, and therefore had NO way of knowing what had happened in the interim, would have a VERY nasty surprise awaiting for them when they returned, hardly seems fair, but that is my opnion.

Perhaps, they could be "grandfathered" of course, that would be extraordinarily hard to implement, since two I know of have already left, made the apporpriate allowances for maintenance and admin rights under the old rules, everything short of giving out their station name and password, and now may, I stress may, have a problem when they return, not to mention the fact that if they lose their citizenship, the mayor will have real estate tied up, that could be being utilized by an active citizen, that counted towards the total number of residents.

I really think the 6 week rule was a bad idea.

6 weeks rule has to do with citizenship list of a Player City. Has nothing to do with Player Houses. The only way a player house will dissapear is when there is not enough credits to pay for maintenance.

the 6 week rule is stupid in itself. There are more people harmed by useless houses than the 1 person out of the game for a few months. Houses should be removed if citizenship is removed. If they dont want their homes to dissapear then they should remove it from the city and place it in the open with plenty of maintenance, then they wouldnt inconvienience players who still played the game in the city. I will be pushing for a solution to this, you only need do do missions for a few hours to put enough maintenance in your house to last for years. This is just not fair for mayors who spend all their time trying to crate that perfect city for everyone when we have people dumping credits into their house and lasting far too long.

There is also a bank that they can use to deposite items for safe keeping, 60 items on their inventory, another 50 items in a backpack. 10 more items in a droid. andloads moreitems in the bank? thatsover 150items without the need to have a useless annoying house placed in a player city.

Sure you signed up for the army or other national services, you know what it involves, there may be more risks than conventional jobs, but there are equally more important jobs, fire service, hospitals. You know that you may need to leave at any time for a long period of time. I dont want to sound selfish but I dont want my gameplay effected directly by this. Its just life, you gotta take it as it comes. if you cant commit to a real time multiplayer game then dont play one.

The 6 week inactivity rule, as I understand it (maybe I missed something), will NOT remove any of your stuff as long as you have enough maintainence in your buildings to keep them going. What does happen though is if your are part of a player city and you go inactive for over 6 weeks you will lose your citizenship with that city until you are able to log back in and visit your house.

The problem we politicians have with the 6-week inactivity rule is, in fact, that the houses DO NOT dissappear, thus taking up valuable real estate so we can't replace the spaces with active citizens that add to the citizen count. I'm assuming you are a member of a player city (why else would you come to the politician board?), so I would check with the mayor of your city and just make sure s/he's cool with the prospect of keeping several houses in town that do not have citizens. If he isn't you might want to consider trying to work out a dealwith the mayorget their stuff moved to a safe location until they come back (it will be a pain in the butt to for them to get set up again, but at least they will still have their stuff).

If, however, you are not part of a player city, you should not have any problem at all.

Even inactive accounts (no longer being paid for) will retain the buildings related to them for a good long time.

Note! If somebody deletes their account then makes a new one on that server all buildings associated with them will go POOF! and delete. Has this happen last week.

Good luck and God speed to all you people in our military, no matter what you're doing or where you're posted.
