Hi, mates.
I would like to suggest the creation of a new type of public building, in the way of Clone Lab, City Hall or Shuttle Port: Marketplace.
The Marketplace would be a building, placed by the mayor, where all citizens which receive the mayor's authorization would be able to place a vendor and administrate it, the same way the mayor can provide zoning rights. There, all artisans and crafters in the city could sell their items and we would all avoid the nasty task of looking inside hundreds of houses to find what we are looking for.
Marketplace would appear in the planetary map and you could browse them to know whether they stock the item you are looking for. A Merchant could be set "in charge" of it by the mayor, so that he or she can administer it, add new vendors, etc. There could be "indoor" marketplaces (help avoid lag) and "outdoor" marketplaces.
I hope Pappi reads this post and transmits the idea to one of those new programmers they've just hired, because this is something my city would really appreciate.
Thanks.

great idea.
This can also cut down on the amount of urban sprawl going in the game with so many houses all over the map. with city markets, the need for player shops will be less therefor less houses and less clutter.
Multiple markets could work well for larger cities.
My only concern is it may be a problem for the Devs in the coding of vendors that are placed outside with each one having its own items indside aswell as being dressed the way the owner has put it.
You might say well trainers are outside....but trainers have a standard command. All trainers of each profession have standard dialog, and thier clothing is just randomized every server reset, Scouts look like scouts, bounty hunters wear bounty hunter armour....ect.
I feel if the Devs did implement these markets into the game the vendors would all have to look the same (terminal styles) with the exception of the name on the vendor.
Maybe if not markets they can make different size merchant tents. small, medium, large. and use these as shops, and no longer allow people to put vendors in their houses. But this would be large scale and would entail a whole revamp of the merchant and vendor system, so the chances are unlikely.
But as I said before great idea, and I hope the Devs take a serious look at it as this is one way of cleaning up all the cluttering of houses in the game.
Then maybe I can try the Mos Espa Circuit race track without having to play dodge the houses....they are worse then the agro.

Most larger cities that have an active mayor and thought this out have made their own "marketplace" with the use us PA Halls. We have on ein my city that has 35 vendors in it, and a crafting station for each profession in a side room so you can shop and create at the same time. I like the idea of more content for the mayors but if we are going to ask the devs for something, lets shoot for something bigger!

The main difference I see in my suggestion is that, since it would be a public building, it would not require any volunteer to dedicate a bunch of slots to it (a guildhall is not "cheap" at all in terms of slots). Also, I would like every player to be able to administer his or her vendor only.
Nevertheless, what would you call "something bigger"? :-)

Something bigger would be nice and I like the idea of freeing up lots, but you lost me on the admin. thier own vendors? Only th eperson that places the vendor can do any admin. to it, so I have no idea what you are talking about.
But after writing the post yesterday, I got to thinking about your post. I do like the idea of a market place building that is similiar to the houses, in the respect that there are planet specific ones. That way people can go right to it in a city or town and know that there are rooms in different locations other than the first room that you go into. Also what would be nice is maybe have it 3 stories??? Not a basement and one or two up like now, but a true 3 stories tall, and allow the aurillian banners to be places on the roof top, give them some sort of purpose! And have the windows stretch the entire lenght of the building's height. make them attractive! And if this ever happens, can you make an attractive building for Tattoine?
(sorry just had to say that:smileywink

I like the idea of having buildings similar to the NPC city guild halls, with 5 or so seperate rooms with counters and ambient music. Seems it wouldn't be too difficult to switch this to a craftable.

I also like the idea about a public Market Place. But instead of having players put up vendors themselves I feel you should have many advanced bazaars in the Market Place.
The Bazaars could be split up into different kinds according to sales prices, this way you could place them in different rooms in the Market Place and decorate the rooms. It has always irritated me that there was no easy way to find the stuff that people was selling.
Only Merchants that is a citizen of the city should be able to sell their stuff to the Market Place. You would offer your stuff to a NPC in the Market Place and the NPC would put it on the right bazaar. Merchants should still earn XP whenever people bought stuff that was sold.
Also you should be able to see what was being sold on all advanced bazaars on the same planet. To avoid people using the advanced bazaars as storage you should only be able to retrieve the stuff you offer once a month.

This is indeed a great idea and one that will hopefully be considered by the new wave of devs. It's become traditional for "Malls" to use PA or Large houses, which both draw heavily on the amount of lots. It requires basically one sacrifical lamb to take the lot hit for everyone else to enjoy. Considering many of these malls are there for the city's merchants, it definitely has merit as a civic structure.
Beyond the use of lots, having players only be able to access their own vendor while the mayor has the admin rights to decorate, would be a great improvement on things. I've heard many horror stories of new merchants gaining admin rights to a mall, only to clear everything in the house and disappear into the night shortly after.
Further, keeping the size of a PA but having a layout more conducive to multiple vendors would be great. One idea for this would be to have the blueprint split into "stall" areas, enabling the different types of vendors to have an area of their own. Not necessarily different rooms (though that could work), but small areas seperated by visual hints such as floor color, pillars, counters, etc.
This is definitely one addition to the list of civic structures that would be welcome. There are others that have been suggested in the past as well, such as Museum civic structures (with slightly increased item max). This definitely has merit though, and I hope Papi pushes it.

I think they care. It's just their number...it's too low
