Thread: Petition to restrict a percentage of the cities lots
What I propose is a system where we can designate a certain percentage of the city as non buildable. This could be implementing in order to reserve areas that will later be used for advanced structures and even as walk ways.
This to prevent people from placing a small house in the middle of say a courtyard or walk way, and to reserve a place for say the Shuttleport or cloning center without the need to ask people to move their house at a later time.

Now, my understanding of zoning rights is very slim - so if i have the wrong idea here - then you can ignore my post,
but from what i gather,granting zoning rights allows someone to build anything anywhere in the city until it times out, or the rights are removed
With that in mind.....the problem with Zoning rights is that they only work for people who want to make their city private - it's a useless feature for big public cities that want to organise their buildings.... even if a person seems nice, acts responsibly and asks nicely for permission to build in your city - there is no guarantee that once you grant them rights, they won't just go ahead and place a PA hall in your town center.
I think the idea of making area's non-buildable is great. Perhaps allow Architects the ability to build custom-sized deeds that cost almost nothing to make/low maintenance and just obstruct any building in the area it's placed.
The other alternative would be to re-program zoning rights so that it actually works like "planning permission"
When a person tries to place a building, it pops up a message that says "zoning rights are in-place, would you like to drop the building and wait for planning permission?" if you say yes, then it places, but it stays as that Red-Forcefield kind of look for say...2 hours. If planning permission isn't granted within that time the building is either lost or re-deeded.
Again though....it may be that my understanding of zoning rights is flawed.
