Thread: Cantinas and Med Center

The ability to place commercial structures was tied to grant zoning rights. I am now seeing skill trees that show medic center and cantina in Civic Policy III. Are people confusing the specialization Entertainment District and Medic District with being able to place the structures? Makes not sense that it would require a 3rd level box to allow the placement of the cantina and med center.

Can anyone on test center confirm that Grant Zoning rights at novice still allows the placement of Cantinas and med centers?

I have yet to see any information indicating that cantinas or hospitals can be built without Civics III. In fact, I haven't ever heard of them being tied to zoning rights. The building player has to have been GIVEN zoning rights (assuming the mayor uses them, and everyone will :smileyhappy by the mayor like every other building in a city, but whether or not the mayor has zoning rights - and they all do now - has no bearing on the placement of cantinas and hospitals.

Syd1,

The posting from the holocron on TC says

Commercial structures are placed by players in cities. In order top lace a commercial structure, you must have been granted permission by the city mayor via the /grantZonningRights command. If the city is disbanded in the future, the commercial structure will remain.

The original skill trees said:

Plinka, is there anyway you can put this argument to rest? Do you have a cantina and med center? Where you able to have someone place them at novice or did it require civic 3?

I just answered ya in the other thread

Those are "no level skills"

Only a Master Dancer, Musician or Chef can place a Cantina or Theatre and only a Master Doctor or Combat Medic can place the Med Center.

Where I think the confusion might be is that you're reading the "City: Specializations" info under Civic Policy III. This isn't to allow placement of the structures. This is simply to provide an additional benefit to them. For example, I believe there's a 10% XP or healing bonus available in a Cantina with a Specialization: Entertainment District. However, that doesn't prevent placement of the Cantina, nor does it prevent the Cantina from providing normal healing benefit. This is a requirement for the placement of a Theatre, but that is also something that only a Master Dancer, Musician or Chef can place anyway.
