Obviously not something that can be done instantly, but a thought for the future development of playe cites (and for that matter, non-player ones.)

Every town needs a post office. Even in the high-tech future-past, these Mayor placed buildings would have 2 (2!) amazing powers.

Amazing power the first: City Mails.

Through this, folks could send a gmail to every citizen within that city. The mayor would get to do this for free. Citizens, and non-citizens would be two other categories of user. Each category would either have mailing enabled or disabled, and have a fee setable (per citizen in the city) for the service. There would also be a ban list, for pests.

This facility would obviously be of most use to the Mayor (who have been asking for this ability for a while, of course.) But it could be handy for any number of other uses. Merchants sending adverts out springs to mind. Spam in SWG, oh my, but the pain would be reduced by the knowledge that the cost of mailing was going into the city treasury.

Amazing power the second: Item Delivery.

The Post Office woud be able to send items to any other Post Office in the galaxy, for collection by the designated recipient. This service woud come in two classes.

2nd class, 24 hour delivery. Low cost, but it'll take 24 hours (or some other long enough to be inconvenient amount of time. An in-game day might be enough).

1st Class. Instant, or at least jolly quick. Andvery expensive. Needs to be pricey so as to not ruin folks who make a living doing deliveries. (Apparently there are such folks.). As usual, some of the cost goes to the city hall (and maybe the city hall of the receiving post office too?)

Anyways, thats my thoughts on the miraculous post-office. Possibly folks here can think of other useful things one might do.

Item delivery is an excellent idea.

I have told my citizens to send me an email with a (cd)-city delivery or a (gd)- guild delivery tag in the subject with thier message.

I then forward it to "Citizens" or "Guild" and everybody gets it.

Now i could see a post office for delivery of ITEMS. that would be cool

I love the item delivery concepts, tho the mail is a tad annoying. We get enough spam in real life.

Mebbe just a "delivery center" or "warehouse" or make the shuttleport able to shuttle around items too.

Thanks for the opinions folks. I was thinking of it as a city size 2, or at worst 3 building. Given that size 4 cities have a seperate cap, not every city can get a shuttleport. Part of my reason for all this is I just like the idea of extra city buildings, with their own individual look.

The mailing *might* ave potential to be anoying, but the mayor could ban individuals from using it, or hike the price. At any rate, your city would be profiting from what is a very mild inconvenience. Unlike RL spam which is no flippin' good to anyone.

For Mayors, this already exists. And I have no reason to believe that is will not work for all citizens. Simple type Citizen in the adressee block. And every citizen in the city will get the mail. I use this all the time for the city news paper.

I also use the word Guild as the adressee from time to time, and this sends out mail to everyone in my guild. I am not the guild leader. This is what leads me to believe that Citizen will also work for non-mayors. I don't even want to consider the option of being able to send a mail to all the citizens of ANOTHER city (your thinking though, and I applaud that). The potential for greif is just too great.

The reason you can use Guild jemelby is because the leader of the PA has given you the permission to. I don't believe non-mayors can use Citizen, nor can guild member without Guild Mail permission send guild mail.

I like the item delivery option as well. I also wish that we could appoint people the ability to send "citizens" mail as well . . . it would make things much easier on our City Planner and Chief of Militia.
