last week in politics

whew, just got back not a bad trip, and Tiaga took us to a lovely restaurant I stuffed myself silly

I realized that this really should be named "last week in politics", but oh well... you can talk about last week, this week, whichever you feel like

I haven't really had a chance to concentrate on some of my city's issues until this week. a few militia members and I (I like to think of this group of peeps as my cabinet, they help me out a LOT whenever I'm stress or have important decisions to make ) discussed the future of our city, and the amount of responsibilities I have between the city, the forums, and our guild. we worked out a few things, and I got to let some of the frustration out of me. this is also the first week that I had time to go hunting, which was fun. every mayor should have some down time...

our treasury's still doing well, and my cabinet and I have been talking about lowering taxes. we've also been discussing ways to jumpstart our economy, and hopefully reviving some of the regularly scheduled events that were dropped due to the person in charge being busy. I really want to restore the sense of community in our city, and lately all the TC and TC2 distractions have pulled my citizens apart.

alright, enough about me, and I want to post this relatively soon... what happened in your city this week?

This week in Aurora

We had a busy seven days in Aurora. The strangest news was my being carted away to a hospital for a few days due to Cat Scracth Fever (Cast Scratch Disease is a real disease that nearly killed my old butt this week. I'd never thought I that I would have cause to say "I am happy to be alive" and really really really mean it.) The city council stepped up and filled in for me while I was recuperating in the hospital. I'd like to thank everyone for their concerns for my virtual and real life welfare. And yes....I still have my cats....no they are not going to be declawed.....yes I renamed them to Bubonic Plague and Black Death.

On some more interesting news in the virtual world: Several PA's from Aurora (E-Den, Spt, & IF) joined a successful raid on two imperial bases. This wasa victory for the Rebellion, but also a step forward in the development of a cohesive commuinty that knows how to work together to accomplish a tough goal! I applaud the guild leaders that put this together and I hope to be around next time so that the city can put some more resouces into such an effort.

Aurora is also happy to announce that we are in the process of contracting for a city plan to be developed. This new plan will help organize our city after a very successful, yet busy year. It will assist in the moving of whole neighborhoods, redevelopment of otherwise empty space, reograniziation of current areas that are inefficiently developed and most importantly....is planned to happen in a very passive fashion over the course of the next several months. No person or PA is going to be forced to move. Though as our city churns and grows we will be working more intently on placing new homes, factories and shops in a manner that supports our new plan.

The Second Citizen Survey is ready to launch to our citizenry. When the results are in, I will happily post some of the more interesting facts.

The city finances are more stable now that some gardens are being sponsored and others have been removed. We have also removed extraneous terminals and one or two decroations that were out of place. Unfortunately, we had to raise taxes for a couple weeks to build our coffers back up. Tax relief is coming this week however.

The city of Aurora is still waiting for new patches to exhibit changes to the GCW before we place new bases.

That is about all from Aurora for this week.

Cheers!

Pappi could we possibly get some assistance and clarification on the current incident on Flurry? GarVa is Locking/Deleting all posts on this subject and calling in-game politics. The actions of 2 players is affecting hundreds and SOE is allowing it.

This wasa researched and planned scam to grief and steal from players. Read Easelman's post again. He specifically asks if all existing structures would be subject to the tax system once the city hall was droped. Once they droped the hall they imediately set a 50% property tax which is then imediately taken from all player structures maintenance funds without any players consent. This is stealing. So far we are getting no help on this situation. If this is seen as a fair and correct tactic this is going to spread to every server very fast and then SOE will be forced to deal with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Im pulling a Bill O'riley here and not researching the subject; however if this is angering so many people why don't they "get out the vote" and run another cannidate against this mayor. Then you can destroy the city hall (and if there is money in the treasury refund it back to the former citizens). I might be able to assist you PM me with some specifics, if you don't mind.

Greetings from the Island!

Temenos Island, a haven for role-players, and those who wish to escape the sufferings and gruesome reality of the Galactic Civil War. Our fair city, delightfully situated on a peninsula near the Lianorm Swamp on Naboo in the Kettemoor Galaxy, continues to thrive as a healthy role-playing and economically stable city. We remain, as we have for several weeks now, at our Class 4 city size plateau. We have gained a few new citizens here and there, and lost a couple as well, but this is par for the course in town.

I continue to be privileged with her safekeeping as her mayor. Funny you should mention Tiaga, our cantina owner. He has recently been developing a video, which promises to be eye pleasing as well as impressive. Our medical center is pulsing with four master doctors to serve our community.

We do have a bit of intrigue occurring, our militia is hard at work investigating a homicide case that occurred outside our public crafting hall (behind city hall), but as it is still under investigation, I am not able to disclose information. I can say that clues to the situation surrounding the crime have been uncovered and all leads are being followed with the utmost professionalism.

The community continues to gather every Wednesday evening in our cantina for friendship, gossip, and just all around good-natured interaction. As always, anyone and everyone is welcome in Temenos, we ask only that you respect the neutrality of our city and come covert if possible. All inquiries regarding residency should be directed toward myself (Derianadai), our militia commander Retsim'Poe or his assistant Kyara, or our ambassadorial liaison, Sighryn.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread here, but here are some reasons to explain why there are problems with voting out the mayor. First, the mayor and his accomplice went around trade forums on other galaxies to advertise lot trades so they canpad more votes for the mayor with off serverlot traders. Second, they used the GCW excuse and got a bunch of Imperial players to build and vote for the mayor. Rebels andneutral players, as well as Imperial players that recognize this whole thing as a scam to steal money from unsuspecting players whose house got swallowed by the city are automatically banned on sight when they enter the city.

Here is a point that I'm still not sure about. If someone has a house in the city, but is city-banned before they declared resident, are they still banned from the city hall even after declaring resident? The mayor and his militia are systematically banning everyone that enters the city unless they are there to support them in their scam. The point is, the mayor did enough researching to find loopholes in the game mechanics to make sure that he can stay in power.

It might take a few weeks when enough houses get swallowed that there are sufficient amount of votes to get rid of the mayor, but before then he'd would have taken enough money from the high taxes and disrupted enough people from their gameplay. It's not just a couple houses here and there, but a major commerce center right outside of Coronet where houses have been built since way before player cities came along. Do we really want to see something like this happen on all the other servers where a couple of individuals disrupt the game for a whole lot of other people? The people that really gets screwed by this are casual players and ones that don't read the forums and don't know how everything in the game works. And really, does the true intention of player cities include swallowing hundreds of houses and taxing all of them 50% property tax? It's allowed in the game, but is it right?

Farpoint Township, Dantooine, Tempest

Well, gee, lets see...I blew up the entire contents of a temporary storage home. You can check out my post about that. Grrrr. I'm still angry after almost a week. Everything is cool in Farpoint. Not a lot to report this week. We had our first of I think many weekly parties at the cantina. Had a nice turnout. I have an old school guild hunt planned for this Friday. No buffs, and docs and medics healing. Our city is growing. Forty five members now. So close to a shuttle. Great job from the citizens recruiting and spreading the word about our great community.

Well, in Ville Sura, we added another 4 players this week, and lost 1 old friend who doesn't play any longer. I ran an experiment with a sales tax (we have never had any tax in my city) just to get an idea of the kind of revenue we could generate with it, and i was very surprised to see the kitty jump about million credits after the update. I know some of it was donations, but i had no idea our crafters were doing that much business!! I sent an email with the results, and asked the residents how they felt about leaving it in place, and so far the responses have all been very positive. My citizens LIKE the tax. Maybe they've all been using too much spice....

I also sent another mail, telling them all to check out all the fun stuff i get in the master politician box, and asked that if they didn't see anything listed to send a /bug report I know i shouldn't have, but hey, i should get SOME value out of that box!!!

New Hope this week.....

begun adding another guild to the city, this will bring in around 6 players as actual residents and put us over 85 BARELY, but Metro none the less (coincidentally... we are sitting on 84 residents as I type this...). Both of the guilds that have joined recently joined because they like the design, so I'm confident that the time and effort has payed off. I'm building a second city square (well third really, but the other one isn't comlete and we don't have the citizens/structures to "square it" really :-/

Anywho, next week I'm going to be starting a city wide nightly PvE meeting/event, where at 9EST everyone who wants to do a Geo Lab run, hunt night sisters, or do a Vette run should show up at the NH cantina to heal/buff and organize. If I have to, I will invite the entire planet which I will do eventually anyway, but for now I want to use it as a city-building event... get the guilds to know one and other better.

A key member of our guild came back, he practically built the guild, and his loss hit the guild hard, with his return, and metropolis in the same week I feel this will be a good week for my city.

May you all fare well in your cities.

"It's a bad idea, and I won't do it,"the sandstormoutside the Tatooine style house started to pick up in intensity making him raise his voice, "I never thought much of Lok anyway."

"But Kaylas, the city needs leadership now.I mean... ,"

"I said no. I don't need the constant hassles and headaches. If you want to re-unite the city why dont you run for office?"

"Me? Look, while you were off feeling sorry for yourself, leaving me alone to run the guild, I've been hunting the Jedi to keep the credits rolling in. This house wasn't free, and all the armor, guns and buffs, and... ," Nazz got up from the comfortable chair he was sitting in and walked to the door, opened it for a moment to see that the swirling Lokian sands hadlittle intention of quieting and quickly closed it, "Sheesh, you think I can win?"

"I have to do what I have to do little brother, and becoming mayor of the Lokian Abyss or running guilds for that matter, is not for me. You know that. I have come to terms with the fact she is gone, and not coming backso Imight be around more now, butface it, how many Jedidid you get the bounty for? One? Two at best? You made your money hunting and harvesting. Your a glorified scout who can do some intersting things with weapons."

"Kay, that's not fair. I did a lot more than you did since we left Coruscant andthefamily. I led Ordell's group when he left, I got us into the LA, I joined the rebellion first,I have seen more of the galaxy then you have," Nazz paused, and looked at his brother. He hadn't seen him for so long. He felt a wave of gratitude that they were just in the same room talking, "You know what Kay? Iwould make a better Mayor. You're too much of a loner for this job."

"You weren't happy as a bounty hunter, Nazz. You're too nice. If Piah wants a new mayor, you run for office. Lead the city. You're happier when your helping others anyway. I have got a down payment on a luxury craft that can do interplanetary hops. So I will be able to vist more often in a coupe of cylces, but this opportunity is for you little brother, not me," all of a sudden the storm ended outside almost as quickly as it started. Kaylasstood, picked up his helmet and slung his carbine over his shoulder, "take my advice, forget huntingJediand be the leader you were born to be."

"Vote Nazz! It does have good ring to it doesn't it?" Nazz said and smiled at Kaylas.

"Yeah little brother it does," Kaylas said and smiled back as he walked out the door, "It really does have a good sound to it. You got my vote," and just like the Lokian sandstorm, Kaylas Ar'Khan was gone as quickly as he came.

The Lokian Abyss, locatedonthe AbyssalPlainsof Lok(Starsider) now has new leadership! After Piah Moonshadow's retirement from politics, former master bounty hunter Nazz Ar'Khanwill become the mayor of the LA. With the support of all the city's guilds <WLP>, <HALO>, and <Rogsq> Nazzis theprojected winner formayor ofthis city of more than 80 citizens of the galaxy.

The city, known for it's commercial district, eclectic but orderly zoning, and commitment to the rebellion is now united behind one leader who will continue the tradtion of growth and prosperity for the residents of the Lokian Abyss: A community by the players for the players. PvE, crafting, PvP and RP. Something for everyone

It has been said that politician is perhaps the hardest profession in the game. That remains to be seen, but to be able to create a fun playing environment for all the citiy'sfriends and allies makes the endeavor worthwhile. With the formation of a new mayoral cabinet there will beinventive scheduled events for all to enjoy, a new court system for resloving disputes, and as a haven for artisans, the Lokian Abyss will continue to be a research city so our crafters will continue have lots of nice goodies stocked on thier vendors.

Stop by and visit soon! When you get off the shuttle the visitors tent will tell you quickly where everything is and be sure to visit our Galatic Civil War Museum and Giftshop (soon to be expanding into a larger facility!). If there is anything you need just get in touch with me, and if it it's in my power, it's yours.

The Lokian Abyss... a community by the players for the players!

Dear colleagues,

This was posted on the Starsider forum as well. Just for you, it is a real great approach we start here and hope it will work out. Feel free to visit us and have a look how it works out

---------------------------------------------snip-------------------------------------------

Dear inhabitants of Starsider,

as of tonight the City of Farpoint has switched from a rebel aligned city to a neutral concept.

From today on we, the citizens and me the mayor will try to establish a community of different factions in a roleplay effort. The following rules have been agreed on so far:

1. The city is neutral and will be the home of different faction aligned guilds and single players. We demand appropriate behaviour when dealing with roleplaying characters within our city borders. Though, if you are not a roleplay, please accept that it is our playstyle and we will stay in character as much as possible.

2. A City Police of Imperial faction will uphold the law and have control over a new Police station and City jail. This Police is a roleplayed police, so anyone who is passing through or is wandering the streets is encouraged to respond to ID checks and questioning. All orders have to be followed in a roleplay manner, being in danger of possibly sent to jail if the police officers orders are not followed. A law system will be talked through and will be developed and proclaimed in appropriate ways.

3. Merchants in the city will offer a broad range of goods to anyone visiting. Vendors will be set up over the next days and weeks., adding up to the existing ones.

4. The city will form a city council with representatives allowed to vote on city issues (taxes, urban development, new guilds applying etc., city ban). Single, unguilded members of the community will be elected if they run for city council. The Council will be set to a count of 9 members including the mayor as the city council leader. To prevent massive influence of large groups every guild may have only one of their members in the city council. The voting on thecouncil will be held at a citzen meeting that is to announce separately.

5.Noone will be banned from the city only because of his faction, may it be overt or covert.Though, if reported to the mayor as a griefer or personally insulting aside from roleplay and/or behaviour that is disturbing the citizens, a player can be banned from civil services with the city council deciding.

6. Criminal activities are as they are in reality. They are part of the society we live in and are considered to be done as creepy, secret and inofficial as its nature is commonly known.

7. Events and Activities will be announced on the Starsider forums so that people from all over the server may enter our contests or take part in our communites efforts to bring forth stories they develop.

8. Personal conflicts or inter-guild wars are allowed as long as they serve the roleplay.

9. The city will not participate in the GCW as of now. Changes are optional by decisions of the city council.

I hope we can successfully start to giveour city a living and prospering character and make it a home for those who like to play with others rather than against others.

This post is subject to change if one or more of these points are altered by the city council.

Sidious Inoxi,

Mayor of Farpoint
