Thread: This week in politics: 6/29/04
whew, just got back
I realized that this really should be named "last week in politics", but oh well... you can talk about last week, this week, whichever you feel like
I haven't really had a chance to concentrate on some of my city's issues until this week. a few militia members and I (I like to think of this group of peeps as my cabinet, they help me out a LOT whenever I'm stress or have important decisions to make
our treasury's still doing well, and my cabinet and I have been talking about lowering taxes. we've also been discussing ways to jumpstart our economy, and hopefully reviving some of the regularly scheduled events that were dropped due to the person in charge being busy. I really want to restore the sense of community in our city, and lately all the TC and TC2 distractions have pulled my citizens apart.
alright, enough about me, and I want to post this relatively soon... what happened in your city this week?

Pappi could we possibly get some assistance and clarification on the current incident on Flurry? GarVa is Locking/Deleting all posts on this subject and calling in-game politics. The actions of 2 players is affecting hundreds and SOE is allowing it.
This wasa researched and planned scam to grief and steal from players. Read Easelman's post again. He specifically asks if all existing structures would be subject to the tax system once the city hall was droped. Once they droped the hall they imediately set a 50% property tax which is then imediately taken from all player structures maintenance funds without any players consent. This is stealing. So far we are getting no help on this situation. If this is seen as a fair and correct tactic this is going to spread to every server very fast and then SOE will be forced to deal with it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Im pulling a Bill O'riley here and not researching the subject; however if this is angering so many people why don't they "get out the vote" and run another cannidate against this mayor. Then you can destroy the city hall (and if there is money in the treasury refund it back to the former citizens). I might be able to assist you PM me with some specifics, if you don't mind.
Greetings from the Island!
Temenos Island, a haven for role-players, and those who wish to escape the sufferings and gruesome reality of the Galactic Civil War. Our fair city, delightfully situated on a peninsula near the Lianorm Swamp on Naboo in the Kettemoor Galaxy, continues to thrive as a healthy role-playing and economically stable city. We remain, as we have for several weeks now, at our Class 4 city size plateau. We have gained a few new citizens here and there, and lost a couple as well, but this is par for the course in town.
I continue to be privileged with her safekeeping as her mayor. Funny you should mention Tiaga, our cantina owner. He has recently been developing a video, which promises to be eye pleasing as well as impressive. Our medical center is pulsing with four master doctors to serve our community.
We do have a bit of intrigue occurring, our militia is hard at work investigating a homicide case that occurred outside our public crafting hall (behind city hall), but as it is still under investigation, I am not able to disclose information. I can say that clues to the situation surrounding the crime have been uncovered and all leads are being followed with the utmost professionalism.
The community continues to gather every Wednesday evening in our cantina for friendship, gossip, and just all around good-natured interaction. As always, anyone and everyone is welcome in Temenos, we ask only that you respect the neutrality of our city and come covert if possible. All inquiries regarding residency should be directed toward myself (Derianadai), our militia commander Retsim'Poe or his assistant Kyara, or our ambassadorial liaison, Sighryn.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread here, but here are some reasons to explain why there are problems with voting out the mayor. First, the mayor and his accomplice went around trade forums on other galaxies to advertise lot trades so they canpad more votes for the mayor with off serverlot traders. Second, they used the GCW excuse and got a bunch of Imperial players to build and vote for the mayor. Rebels andneutral players, as well as Imperial players that recognize this whole thing as a scam to steal money from unsuspecting players whose house got swallowed by the city are automatically banned on sight when they enter the city.
Here is a point that I'm still not sure about. If someone has a house in the city, but is city-banned before they declared resident, are they still banned from the city hall even after declaring resident? The mayor and his militia are systematically banning everyone that enters the city unless they are there to support them in their scam. The point is, the mayor did enough researching to find loopholes in the game mechanics to make sure that he can stay in power.
It might take a few weeks when enough houses get swallowed that there are sufficient amount of votes to get rid of the mayor, but before then he'd would have taken enough money from the high taxes and disrupted enough people from their gameplay. It's not just a couple houses here and there, but a major commerce center right outside of Coronet where houses have been built since way before player cities came along. Do we really want to see something like this happen on all the other servers where a couple of individuals disrupt the game for a whole lot of other people? The people that really gets screwed by this are casual players and ones that don't read the forums and don't know how everything in the game works. And really, does the true intention of player cities include swallowing hundreds of houses and taxing all of them 50% property tax? It's allowed in the game, but is it right?
begun adding another guild to the city, this will bring in around 6 players as actual residents and put us over 85 BARELY, but Metro none the less (coincidentally... we are sitting on 84 residents as I type this...). Both of the guilds that have joined recently joined because they like the design, so I'm confident that the time and effort has payed off. I'm building a second city square (well third really, but the other one isn't comlete and we don't have the citizens/structures to "square it" really :-/
Anywho, next week I'm going to be starting a city wide nightly PvE meeting/event, where at 9EST everyone who wants to do a Geo Lab run, hunt night sisters, or do a Vette run should show up at the NH cantina to heal/buff and organize. If I have to, I will invite the entire planet which I will do eventually anyway, but for now I want to use it as a city-building event... get the guilds to know one and other better.
A key member of our guild came back, he practically built the guild, and his loss hit the guild hard, with his return, and metropolis in the same week I feel this will be a good week for my city.
May you all fare well in your cities.
