Thread: Question Regarding Player City Ranks
The caps themselves aren't really the problem. Personally I think they're at a good level for both core worlds and the advanced planets. If everything was working as intended, most of the complaints about Player City caps would go away.
The real issue is "dead" cities. I don't mean dead in the sense that you don't see anyone present, since that's really more of a symptom than the cause. I'm talking about dead with citizens of cancelled or deleted accounts, forgotten cross-server swaps, and even some padded from use of the dual-citizenship bug. Citizens that have not even logged into that character for weeks or even months are keeping some cities in a Rank that they don't deserve. In some cases there are also "phantom" cities holding slots in the higher levels, cities that dropped in Rank but still occupy one of the ranked spots as far as the system is concerned.
The promised character/account purge would go a long way to fixing the problem, but even that alone will only treat the symptoms of the larger issue. Unfortunately, some of the bug fixes we need aren't quick things that can be snuck into a random publish. They are complicated issues that aren't easy to reproduce and pin down, and that's just to get the current system working as intended.
Some of those issues should be easy fixes, though, but I'm not a game designer; I don't know what the back end of the code looks like. I do know that it can be difficult to find an offending string of code and to fix it without breaking other things. Increased communication from the devs would go a long way, and might even help the community help them. All we can really do to improve the situation at this point is to be diligent on in-game bug reporting and give them as much information as we can. We may not hear back from them, but it may be the only way to get the situation resolved.
Document everything you can, give detailed information in the proper channels, and be patient. It's frustrating, to be sure, but there are others professions with problems as big as--and maybe bigger--than some of ours. It doesn't mean we have to stop working for what we want, but it does mean that we need to keep perspective on the large picture.
/comfort Really, honestly and truly... /comfort
I know it's not an easy thing when it involves your city. You really get to the point where you love your city so much, you don't ever want to loose it and just want to see it thrive. In the long run, though, it's better to focus on the things that *are* working that you *do* enjoy about your city and make the best of the situation. That shuttleport makes things a lot easier, but it doesn't stop you from feeling that your city is successful. Not easy, but better for your state of mind and enjoyment of the game.

The shuttleport doesn't concern me really....it is the ability to at least hit rank III. I really really really need the space.
I feel your pain. After the CU my old guild crumbled, even the guild leader left the game. So i started my own guild and city. I've got 57 citizens at the moment and i'm stuck as a Rank 2 city. Not so worried about the shuttle as I am the ability to register the city and to be able to set a city specialization. At the server pulse yesterday and the server updated, I noticed something a bit dodgey, 2 cities with the exact same name on Dantooine, both holding Rank 3. This is odd that 2 player cities should be allowed to have the same name, but they also seem to be the same guilds cities. Is this an exploit , by one guild placing more than one city on a planet with the same name in order to stop other cities from growing? I went to both cities on the map. Both have the same faction, and seem to have a similar layout and same amount of of citizens. I filed a ticket on this, but still have yet to receive an answer.
I know a character purge, or somekind of purge wouldbestop gap meassure, but it is definately needed at this point. If SOE is worried about returning customers not getting there stuff back, I have noticed a huge amount of players coming back as new characters, after the 6 months is up, they can no longer log into their character, but the characters structures and such are still there. They really need to fix this, there are SOOOOO many dead cities on Chimaera, and especially on Dantooine it is horendous.
I hope some kind of fix is in the works for implementation soon, cause its getting worse by the day.
