Thread: /warn Proposal

Ok, being able to attack anyone in your city because you don't like them is never coming back. Accept it and mourn. However /warn can have new meaning and give us a bit more control over our cities.

As it stands /ban prevents a player from doing anything in town: no cloning, shuttling (in), banking, mission grabbing, or training. Well I was the mayor of a city that was fairly active in PvP on the rebellion side and we wound up with a pretty big /ban list to prevent clone wars. This also means we had a pretty big list of people who couldn't effectively use the mall since shuttling was a pain. (we're located by the crystal arch on Corellia ie far from civilization) We helped ourselves but hurt ourselves as well. How about /warn work as a less strict banning. We are just warning the player afterall, trying to get the message across that their kind isn't very welcome 'round these parts.

What this means:

/citywarn = prevented from cloning, mission terminals, skill trainers (allowed to use bank, garage, and shuttle)

/cityban = prevented from everything and then some

You keep your city under lockdown but you leave it open to trade as well. You may not like the other faction but you do like their credits. If the guy is a real clown than you can make entering/exiting the town (when it gets re-fixed) difficult.

I think this idea has potential asit goes the complete oposite direction from modifying the old warn system. The way cities have mostly evolved now is that without a shuttleport they can be empty of all except those that live there. While this doesn't mean they are ghost towns, it just means other people aren't getting to enjoy your hard work.

Maybe warn could also add some sort of noticeable tag or icon near the players name that would allow maltia members to be warned of a...warned person's presence. All in all I like the idea, as we have to accept that anything that poses any form of direct effect to the /citywarned person isn't ever going to be implimented.

/warn should have a 3 min timer. if you can't get out of even a metropolis after being warned then you deserve to die. There needs to be some way to get rid of players from opposing factions settign up thier alts ot bark in your town that you all suck and stupid crap like that. one night abuot 10 opposing faction jedi (all combatebt) decided to do the duck dance in front of our shuttleport all night. and we could not do anything but try and pull thier missions from the bh terminals. which is what we wound up doing in the end. but if they had not been jedi with that bh option we would have had no way to get rid of that annoyance in our city. /warn needs a comback and needs it in a big way.

It's not coming back that way, so it's best to start thinking of alternatives.

PsychoticChipmunk, I like your idea.

How about they just disable the old /citywarn in cities too close(engulfing) to POI's and Re-enable the rest?!

or try this....

I have been thinking of a different Idea for /warn and it goes like this.......

So an undesirable enters your city.....you want them gone

/warn gives a timer 1-2 minutes to the party to vacate the city if they dont leave then a "hired" NPC Citymilita spawns to fight him.If this NPC is defeated then 2 spawn and so on and so on until either.....

A. the unwanted party leaves or

B. the NPC's kill him

This cant be too hard to implement

That's how it used to work, just with NPCs. It won't happen.

And it wouldn't really be fair to have it on in some and off in others.

Cities with POI's in their border are the only cities that it would effect to turn off /warn and not every city has a POI in it so how is that fair? It's an unfair world...lol

I realize the NPC idea is similar to the old system but it takes out the pvp element and with its escalating effect diminishes the possibility for griefing and gives the targeted party time to move on as the fight escalates. So no its not the same idea similar yes.

Whether by players or by NPCs, it will still cause the same problems.

And, fine, the world isn't fair. But does that mean we should make it unfair? You can't just tell one city that they can do one thing and another something different.

Also, I'm not even sure something like that would be possible and/or worth the effort.

it's not even that if it's right to make it unfair, the devs will not make it unfair.

as for your proposal, I think it would be much better received by the devs if it isn't associated with citywarn. the old one is definitely not coming back, and it might turn them off on the idea if they see the name. prehaps a new name?

Well the thing is, we are warning them about sticking around in town not giving them an outright ban so the name works out and this way it keeps what cities are meant to have;a way to warn delinquents and a way to ban them.A different name would work but it'd just be a synonym anyhow sono big deal over it.

Unless the NPC was a lvl 1 it would be unfair to /warn crafters. You are still forcing them into a situation they don't want to be in and they're getting 1 shotted by anything even weak to a novice marksman. The new factional system shows just how far the developers are willing to go to ensure people have control over their playstyle. You can do factional PvE or PvP or be completely without risk before it was attackable by PvP, not, or temporarily attackable beyond the revenge TEF's that where removed.

Greetings Mayors,

I know the technology is available to do what im about to suggest since its in another part of the game that can be expanded to player cities features.

/cityapproach : notifies the offending player that they won't be able to use city terminals. trainers, yada yada yada.

/cityexpulse : send player to x number of meters out of the city borders or to the closest NPC city (predesignated by placement of City Hall) This feature would be limited to the mayor, and have a re-use timer. I understand this could become a problem with PVP/GCW base def. but there can be safety features in place.

Honestly, kids will be kids, they will haze and grief people if they really want to, and without ruining the fundamentals of the game thier is no way to stop them. If you can't do it in real life, you can't do it in a digital life... there really is no option that you can do that won't create more griefing.. IE Fineing the offender could be easily abused; evidently, the idea of /warn was abused that's why we lost it. Griefers and Hazers need an audience, aslong as they aren't breaking things, they'll get tired. We all have better things to do than be an audience... /bann and walk away...or go man a turrent and see if it'll reach em
