alright, our mayor is absent for an unspecified amount of time. So I decided to take over. I am the only one now running for mayor.

The city is fairly dead.. do I still need to get the majority of people to vote for me than not vote still, or since I am only one on the terminal do I get it when voting cycle ends?

We have a city of 67 citizens, and weekly maitence is 489k. Does this sound about right?

Also the treasury is only holding 80k ATM. I just deposited enough to bring it up to weekly maitence, but is maitence taken from the treasury or the mayors bank account? (he was filthy rich..) And if the treasury, did I just catch it in time, or is there already damage to the city you think? (I would think it would be 0 in the treasury if we were bone dry and taking damage...)

Anything anyone can chime in to make my life a little bit easier will help.. I'd hate to remove stuff that I can't put back yet, but AFAIK the citizens (even when they were playing) never put much into the treasury and the mayor paid himself, and I may need to find some corners to cut..

Thanks guys. (& gals!)

First of all, do you have taxes? if not and there was 80k left in the treasury that means your fine, and as long as you paid enough for the next update everything will be repaired. You just need to get the most votes to win the election, but still get as many people as possible. The amount of maintence greatly depends on your city level, the amount of parks, lamps, terminals, etc.... hope this helps some

I'm in the same boat as you are. My city Orion's Gate looks like it's been operating in the Red for a bit and it is starting to show. We are on the verg of losing the cloning and shuttle facilities (10% each), all of the mission terminals are gone and all but 4 trainers have survived. I've desided to run for mayor, but I might be head back abit considering that I am only a Novice Politician. I have some ideas on how to get the budget under control. There is a lot of fat that I am going to have to cut, like the over abundt amount of banks and garages is the big thing. I also need to bring back the mission terminal. Any ideas on how to promote traval to the city. Or increase revenue or what.

If you can get some money into the treasury before the next update, you wouldn't have any problems being a Novice Politician as a mayor. Once something is placed, you don't need the skill unless you intend on moving it. Anyone can make a deposit to the City Treasury by using the City Management Terminal in the library room of City Hall.

There's a new guide up in the stickies on making money quick. If you've lost your terminals, you'd need to group up in another city but the basic idea still works.

The FAQ will give you details to the answers you seek, but in the meantime to the best of my knowledge:

1. If you're the only one running and have one vote, you win.

2. My city is also City Rank and takes 507k a week, so yes that's about right. If you eliminate some gardens that will help out a ton. I'm guessing you have some in there.

3. Maintenance is taken from the city treasury only as I understand it.

4. You can go with taxes or what I do is to directly ask citizens to help. Once you're mayor you can send an email to all citizens and ask them to help upkeep your city. We have no taxes atm but a treasury of about 5mill due to donations. Some will help, others will never help. lol

Hope those were of some value to you. For more in-depth, again check out the FAQ.

A note on taxes. I don't know about other servers, but on Valcyn a 2k income tax is pretty standard in many cities. This will go a long way toward keeping your city paid for, and shouldn't really put a whole lot of strain on your citizens. If you have 50 citizens, that's 100K of you fees right there. Property taxes in the range of 5-10% are also common. Forecasting your revenue from property taxes is a bit more difficult because of the varying fees paid for different size and types of structures.

My point is, taxing can go a long way toward keeping things managable without really putting people out. In reality, it's only fair that the people benefiting from the presence of the city pay for it in some way, and this allows for them to do so without any active involvement.
