Thread: PETITION: My citizens are screaming out!!!
Hi.
It's time to start thinking about our citizens!
Picture this - I have nearly 50 up for it citizens who enjoy the facilities of the city and want to be able to build a strong community. Only a small number are in my guild, and most are new players we recruited from the Starports around the planet!
They have asked for the following, and I think that these should be considered as new features to help Player Cities really fly:
1. Who is in town? People want to be able to go to the City Hall and see who is in town so that they can form hunting parties, get training, etc... Friends list don't work for this because they do not always know who lives in the town, especially if they are new, and the Friends List doesn't help them to communicate.
2. Community Noticeboard! People want to be able to leave messages for each to arrange informal hunts, meetings, and to sell things. We are not a Guild city, so not everyone can use GuildChat. ALL citizens should be able to post to this board - and the mayor should NOT have the ability to censor them, in the interests of democracy! This would give opponents an option to campaign, and be a lot of fun too!
3. City Chat? In addition to theNoticeboard it would be great to have a CityChat facility so that someone in the city can easily chat to other citizens online - especially useful for new players in non-Guild cities like mine - they might be looking for a trainer or someone to help them with something, and 450m is a big space to run around yelling in ![]()
What does everyone else think?
Please sign if you agree and we will ask Plinka to help!
Well ... especially #2 would probably be a lot of extra work for the devs ... this is what we do:
1. You do have a friendlist, you can update it with the "Citizens" List you can see at the city hall terminal, there is also the search function (part of the community window ... ctrl+p) which gives you a tool to search for players online in your area (so in your city and around it)
2. As I noted, lots of work if you want to put it ingame ... we use outgame forums, luckily we have a big german fansite that hosts our forums for the city ... but I think there are a lot of free boards out there where you can organize communities just fine ... of course then the mayor or moderator would have the chance of moderating
3. We use the ingame chat system ... have a macro to execute on start ...
/chatroom create SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC 0 1 "Kheraba.com - A place to call home"; /pause 1; /chatroom join KC;
This always either creates a new room, or joins it when it already excists ... modify your main chat tab to show this chat too ... and your all set to communicate away
I tried this out in our city and it worked, if you do a /who it gives you the names and flagged proffesions of the players in town within a cetain radius hope it helps. ![]()
I like all 3 of these ideas. With the/who option, it would be cool to add a city switch to it like we can with /who "guildname" right now. /who "Cityname would return a list of players in the city radius.
As for the community board I'd like to see 2 versions, 1 object/display/machine that only the mayor can update for civic info, and another that any citizen of the city can post to. This would also be a good way for someone new to the city to guage how active the community is at one and read the mayor's decription or rules for the city on the other.
What is that macro to start the chat? I have one setup for my city but we always have to rejoin everytime we log in..
Thanks,
Tavox
I'd like to see a tag similiar to professions or helper that labels you as "Citizen of New Hope" (to steal plinka's town) and have that show up in the /examine screen. Make it toggleable since RP'ers don't want to see a big label on their character and that would be a big give away to faction since some towns are rebel only or imperial.
This will help with the /who or search command since you will see a list of people that have your town next to their name. And since I assume that doing a search puts you inside of whatever town instead of just the Corellian Riverlands (if not it should) you simplyshow
Kurrin Va'Dine {PAC} the Bothan Novice Sharpshooter Citizen in New Hope
to let people contact each other easily. Oh and for the friends list you can put people in organizations or comments so just make the org a PA and comment citizen or vice versa to help split your friends up.
Otherwise good ideas however the city chat seems kinda iffy with guildchat, and even group chat at times, being wonky.
just get them all to join your pa or rename your pa "new hope".
If they demand those services explain they will get them if they join your PA.
You might also make a city specific website with message board, events calandar, etc.
www.guildportal.com is really simple to use and you need no html experiance.
Love,
