Thread: City Specialisation: Research / Manufacture
This is mostly a question to Plinka and/or other test centre politicians.
Ive not found anything detailed about this, and may be possible there is nothing detailed, and maybe even that you dont know or would rather we found out for ourselves. (only brought it up becaus ive seen a few questions about it from other crafting forums, being a crafter myself)
But the wording on research specialisation looks as if it could mean a few things, is there anyone who could explain how they work yet? or do i get to test it myself when we get this skill ourselves? ![]()
I'm not plinka, which might explain why I don't understand the real question.I thought the text in the explanation of the specializations was pretty clear though.
- Research gives a 15% bonus to experimentation
- Manufacturing is a 10% reduction in failure when creating prototypes.
I don't know about anyone else, but I was hoping that Manufacturing center/Industrial society would imply improved factory output, etc. Not just hand crafted items...
I'm not really sure that these specializations are worth the cost. Especially since they only affect individual effort. It would have been nice to attract factories into the city so I could charge more property tax. As it stands there is no real need to have the factories in the city, they can all be placed outside the limit, and I don't get any money from their existence.
15 % bonus to experimentation is the one really.
is that 15 % more experimentation points?
an extra 15 % to the actual result you get when using experiment points (can only hope)
or just 15 % more likely to succed on experimenting.
hard to tell from the wording, seems unlikely to be the second, yet if its the last i doubt il be gettin it doesnt seem worth the cost if so ![]()

It was my assumption that this percentage was the same that you get when gaining new skills so 15% more experimentation would be 1.5 more experimentation points for someone who mastered a profession. By itself, this is a huge benefit and any city with this specialization can expect to attract the most dedicated crafters in the game.
I don't think that is correct ... I remember in the Politican manual in the Holocron (which I don't have in front of me) it described the experimentation bonus as being 15% extra on initial experimental success. So my assumption (although I haven't seen it in action) is that the initial experimented values of the combine -- before the craftsperson's experimentation points are applied -- would have a 15% bonus.
Which means research city specialization is still no substitute for quality ingrediants (ie, the materials used still define the maximum potential of the final product ... ie, this is really only useful for sub-master craftspeople who can't maximize the potential of the igrediants with their experimentation points alone.)
I'm thinking we should start seeing research centers within the next week or two.
