I have started a new city on the Eclipse Galaxy on Lok. It took alot of creds and time but I finally have enough for the outpost. I am working on making my city a democratic city and this is what i have come up with. Please give your input as to whether this will work or not or maybe tips to refine my new city.

I am offiacally just a Novice Politician without any exp but have the monopoly on votes at this time. I have close to 15 citizens so that will help starting next week. I have contacted a few guilds mostly from people I have come in contact with, and have asked them to join our city or to have a liason in the city.

My official City breakdown will be this:

Mayor: Sunshin Matesz

Council members: Guild leaders or Liason officers (They will be militia members with a vote. since militia members are not required to have the politician profession anyone can be a Councilmen within my guidelines.)

Militia: City members (Although without a vote in the Cities functions.)

I am extremely impartial and a fair player overall. I do not mind if the Council votes on something that regards the city that I do not approve of because they will be representing a portion of the Cities populations, and as a mayor My Job is to make the citizens happy.

I will have guidelines in my city that councilmembers and militia can not supercede such as the cloning and re -killing overt rebs. After the first Kill of that reb they will meet them at the cloning facility and actually escort them out of the city without harming the rebel. I have had this done to me in a Rebel city and this pissed me off to no end. I am a warrior for the Empire not a coward that hits its enemy when they are down.

So far this is the basics of what I have come up with. It is not much but it is only my second day as mayor. I would much appreciate any feed back to my idea of a council and tips to further benefit my city.

Thank you all for any feedback.

well my first couple of weeks i ran a pretty tight ship so we could advance as much as possible to shuttleport as we are placed 4k away from the nearest one so it was a priority.

after this period the general concensus was to change to a more democratic model and ensuring all the citizens had a voice so we put together a city council of 6 (not including me)

the way we did it was to get everyone in the city to nominate a councilor and then after 3 days of that i posted the nominations and asked everyone to vote on the 3 people they wanted in the council, after that i chose the next 3 (to ensure that the major guilds in town were represented) and we have a council of 6 that can put forward any policy changes they like and we vote on them, i put forward policy changes or new policies and the council by a majority vote of four can essentially override me if i want to do something with the city they do not agree with, conversly i retain the power of veto and can simply say "no" to a new policy they may wish to introduce so the worse thing that can happen is nothing hehe

this has thus far worked for us we deliberate some stuff via email over the course of the week and try to meet weekly for an hour to disucss important things that have happended in the city

hope this helps a bit

If you can, set up a message board for your citizens out of game. It helps immensely. Even if all of your citizens don't participate (and some won't, they just want to play and log off and be done) it gets a relatively accurate indicator for what the people want.

Something we're debating doing is having a discussion thread for various city issues. The most popular ideas from the thread will then be adapted into voting options. Set up a small house that is private with each citizen on the entry list, and toss down a voting terminal. Leave the vote open for x days and then announce the results.

A city charter is also nice to have if youtruly want to RP a democratic city. That's basically what anything beyond the enlightened despot model of governance is, because the mechanics don't exist to customize your governmental procedures.

Of course, I love legislative drafting and policy design. Heck, I mainly hold on to master architect because I love decorating houses.

We're at Tian Bay on Corellia on Eclipse.

Email me in-game or send a /tell (Sigok) and we can discuss it further if you'd like.
