Thread: Dealing with Neighboring towns

I am curious how many other folks have experienced this. We have a player city about 1200m away from us. They are a bit smaller and did not get a shuttleport. Recently a few of their citizens come to our shuttleport and spam ads for the shops in their city. I am not aware if the mayor of the other city knows about or condones this behavior. I find it to be rude and disrespectful.

We discussed it with one player in question, he refused to stop, so he was warned and killed. In the future we won't be able to do anything about this, which is another story. And /ignore does nothing about this, but that is another story.

How many of you mayors have neighbors who have shuttle envy? Have you had problems dealing with your neighbors who are not growing and out of jealousy or desperation are being annoying in your city?

I have shuttle envy. /sigh. But I do think it is very unbecoming of one of their citizens to do so even after being requested not to. I would send a mail to the mayor of that city advising of the situtation and requesting it be dealt with in a nice manner for good relations in the future. Although, there really isn't much the mayor can do if the person in question won't agree.

I also think it hilarious that you killed him.

Seems most of this may have been a misunderstanding. I don't want to incite something against a city on my server that was an isolated act of one resident.

But I see the possibility for problems in the future.

Your best bet is to use discussion and reason before shooting. This would include contacting the mayor of the other city.

Granted, now the situation has escallated beyond that. Really, the best way to solve problems is to take the positions out of the equasion and attack the problem as a creative problem solving task for all parties to participate in.

It sounds stupid, but it works. Check out Getting To Yes by William Ury. It's one of the big texts in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration classes because it takes a new look at problem solving and defusing heated, positional negotiations.

I'd say let them move in a house, that would be their storefront, charge them an initial moving fee, and up the sales tax, if your city doesn't support sales tax, have them pay a high moving-in fee, doubt they'd go with this idea tho

You could always /cityban that person and at least they would never be able to use your shuttleport.

The complete ''Dirty Pool'' method:

If theneighboring mayor is unable to deal with the problem in a timely manner go into the neighboring town hall and get a list of every citizen of that town. Email them all informing them of the problem and ask them to deal with the problem. If that doesn't work /cityban every citizen of the neighboring town and email them saying that the ban will be lifted when the spamming stops.
