Thread: Walls as possible civic structures
/salute
Hello I am interested to know some info about the possiblity of having walls in the Town/Fort I have made a post in the Arcitect forum aswell as here, as I aim to conquer 2 problems with this.
The Fort which I am currently Mayor at is a Hense the name a Fort called Fort xXx a military base with the aim of being a large Imperial base run by players not npc.
I would like to start placeing walls to create a perimiter for the Fort and I do not want to use peoples house to create blockades and I do not wish to put my citizens at risk like that, as not all want to be in PvP.
Walls is a good way to direct the flow of traffic or the ways people visiting your town/city/base can take. Plus if we can create hedges or walls like in Theed it may help to stop people flying in odd places and such and make it so you! know where they can come from places like Empora on shadowfire would benifit from this as they have a base in their city if they can direct the flow of where people could enter it would make it a lot easier to defend and a lot harder to attack.
I do not know what types of wall can be made idealy for my case the strong concrete walls we get at HQ's.
What I like to know is can walls be placed on their own?
Can walls be even be placed as civic structures or not?
What type of walls can be made?
Has any other Mayor tried or wanted the same but not to use peoples houses?
if not I like to suggest this
so plink if your reading this perhaps you can put a word in.
Thank you.
GIving this a kick to the top because I would really like to see walls as a city structure too! While the wall of houses is quite effective, I personally find it's kind of cheap, and would much rather run into a big stone wall than a row of houses.
It would be wonderful to be able to wall off our Military Area where all the militia lives. Maybe some military type city decorations too? In UO (I know.. I know.. this is SWG) you could have training dummies and archery targets. Stuff like that would be an incredibly cool addition to cities, and maybe make the militia feel more... military.
Are Archrival and I the only ones who want these? I really hope not!
I love the idea, but I think it should be implemented differently. Although walls can be used as decorative and controlling city streets/flow, the main reason they will be used is for factional purposes (ie. defense). As such, walls should be factional structures rather than civic structures because they will play a roll in the GCW. These wallsshould be allowed to be damaged/attacked/affected in some way. Or alternately, be indestructible and have a high "maintenance fee" of FPrather than a one-time purchase fee.
Other than that, I love the idea.
You may want to read this as well then

Way back when, the Devs said they would not be implementing walls because it was way too easy to grief people with them. What's to keep a Mayor from sealing off the town during a battle to keep the enemy inside? It's bad enough this already happens with Medium Naboos . . . people build walls of them with the cloning facility in the middle. Faction One thinks they're smart, sneak into town, go to the cloning facility and clone before they can get banned. Later they wage a full out attack, thinking they are safe since they can clone at the cloning facility in the city. Faction Two instead seals off the area so that they clone indefinitely in their city, drop some turrets, and rake in the points.
Not only do we not need walls, we need to fix the footprint on mediums so people can move between them.

The REAL BT
"The reason I don't PvP in this game is because no matter what side I picked, I'd be guaranteed to be fighting alongside at least one idiot. And I don't defend idiots."
That should be a Top 5 issue for a few forums I would think. /shrug

There would be a simple way around the "wall grief" idea though. Only allow a certain number of walls to be placed next to another wall. It wouldn't be a fixed amount placeable for a city but rather a fixed distance that can be blocked in. True people will just drop medium homes (I think medium generic/corellian can do this too) to make the wall stretch even further but these are the people that have medium home walls anyway so it isn't really changing much in that regard anyway. Or another way to approach it is that an archway is required every __ meters or less again allowing for access. Just because walls can be used to grief doesn't mean that they have no other purpose. I would love to be able to cordon off areas or make a visible barrier denoting a difference between regions. Militia from crafters and the like, plus it would just be niec to be able to draw people into the town past all the vendors and parks to show off a bit![]()
I would prefer to get bridges, stairs, as well as pavement with the walls as well though. One big add on instead of a bit of a trickle, I mean why have a wall going down a cliff when stairs would be more obvious and do the work for you. I mean the artwork already exists, why make new "special" walls or bridges when I'd be perfectly happy with Kor Vella's hand me down.
PS Oh and I almost forgot, I think it would be interesting if graffitti would appear on walls randomly (not player generated to keep down swastika's and griefing) like Down with Palpatine or Crush the terrorists, that you could choose to leave on or clean up for a small cost of credits. Eventually you'll look run down and spend a lot on beautification or will be a clean spotless city.
ive replied to this thread which was posted on the architects forum..but i will reiterate here.
the devs implementation on city lot limits and costs astounds me..a streetlight costing 1 city lot??
if walls were to cost the same it would undoubtedly mean either a barren walled city, or an open sparsely furnished city.
adjust the lot costs for certain items allready in game and maybe walls would be feasable at the right cost.
I replied to ur reply in the architects so I shall reply here depend on which ur looking at first ![]()
Our Fort
is a Imperial military base, by placeing 1 HQ down we already got what we would have to wait until rank 3, banks, insurance terminals mission terminals imp mission terminals. I arn't going to bother placeing most of the city structures
as we have 4 HQ's at Present and aim to have 18 placed, we do have plenty of room for the lots of Wars. Just need to learn to ration with what u want and what u need...
maybe walls could be in a preshape so u can have a C shape with 5 walls in a C shape. Or something like that...
What resources would it or should it take to build walls if they were to build...
