I think I have a simple solution to some of the issues of the Politician profession. I think that every week (or whatever interval is decided on in the future) that every citizen who wants a voice in city politics should be required to vote. If I don't vote IRL, that's not a vote to keep the current administration in - it's not a vote at all - that's how I think it should be in SWG.
Right now I want to change characters that is the mayor of the city I live in, but that's not possible due to the number of "inactive" citizens that I have. I can't resign, I can't drop the skills to force myself out, I can't really do anything but sit and have this one character be the mayor of the town.
If people had to vote each week (rather than auto voting for the incumbent), then this would be easy to do. Cities in SWG are mini monarchies right now - you have to be allowed into town, and usually are told who will be your ruler - let's change it up a little bit and make the towns fluid. If you want to retain office, then you'll actually have to do some politicing (oh my you'll actually have to play as a politician to keep office - /gasp).
Anyway, that's just my 2 credits.

I'm sorry Bamfette, but thats a terrible idea. If that were the case, most politicians would gain xp at an extremely slow rate.

actually, I had a modified idea that's similar...
active votes would count a lot more xp-wise. votes can still count across elections (to help people vote MIA mayors out), and the skill boxes would take a lot less "active votes" to get. I also suggested other ways to earn politician xp.
we're not getting any major changes soon though, so we'll see...

You find that most Mayors have to continue playing the politician anyway otherwise people get peeved and leave, thus depriving your city of residents. Don't know of to many Mayors that run their cities like mini-kingdoms (well I don't know of many cities still left that ran like that).

We've discussed this problem to death guys.
I think we pretty much decided that two options should be implemented.
1. If someone runs against the mayor... the mayor has the ability to remove themselves from the ballot (basically resigning)
2. If someone runs against the mayor... only actual votes would count. Now if this is the case then I'd also like to see something in the form of an email saying "so and so has declared his intentions to run for mayor"
After that it would be a matter of other changes but those are the two I think we all agreed upon.
That is all
Mayor Acantho
Dohrian, east of Daeric on Talus. Gorath sector.

You can't really compare it to RL. If elections were once a year I would have no problem with that. But if elections happened once a week, very few people would vote all the time. Thats why we elect people to do that sort of daily voting.

Third option, which I'm pushing heavily, would be the ability to allow a mayor to assign "incumbency" to another candidate. This way all the non-voting votes would go to them, instead of the current mayor, and thus would allow the smooth transition of power at the next city update.
The coding is already there for this. Just needs a few lines of code to allow the current mayor to assign the incumbency flag to another candidate, since all it is is a database flag.

Well, I think forcing people to vote is bad. However, I don't think anybody should be stuck leading a city if they don't want to. Maybe you should put out a ticket? See if CSR can remove you from it?

I wouldn't mind having it where if you don't at least log in for three or four straight weeks that your vote drops from the ballot altogether. Why should inactives have a say in the town anyway?

i agree? why can this be implemented. i would love to see myself able to resign from the office of mayor in favor of someone else who has more time to handle it right now.
