Thread: Why is a /banned citizen not allowed to vote?

My house was there weeks and weeks before player cities. I have been a declared resident there the entire time. Now there is a City Hall that in week 3 of Player Cities takes me in as a resident, but since I was /banned (for being a Rebel) before the city expanded to include my house, I can't even go into the City Hall to vote for my choice of Mayor? Is this a bug? I understand that since my house is there and I am a declared resident of that house, the encumbent Mayor gets my vote without me being allowed to authorize it...

Please help me understand what this is and how SOE ever meant to have this happen!!

Hate to say it my friend but I think you will be forced to move your house outside the city limits or get enough Rebel friends to join the city as coverts and boot the mayor.

The reason this is, is because it allowsmayors to ban those who move in expressly to force a takeover of the city for griefing purposes. You would have needed to be banned before you were actually a citizen. If your house was there before the city hall was placed, I feel for you, really, because I think the current system is really unfair to those who were there before and got absorbed. But if you placed your house in the city radius after the Hall went down, then you should be prepared to live by the will of the city and its Mayor. You can try to convince the citizens to vote the mayorout, or you can accept that you're not wanted and leave town.

Some CSR's have said this is a bug, and some say that is its intended use. I've yet to see a truely definitive answer on this since I've seen logs and screenies of CSR's saying both things at varying times. The most recent one I've seen showed the CSR saying that was the intended use.

A /cityban of a player should be automatically removed if the players House is made part of a City by Expansion. This a bug and one more oversight of the development team. If a player is forced into joining a city thru placement of a CIty Hall or City Expansion they have to be given representation. That or they should gain a TEF on the Mayor and the Militia allowing them to defend themselves.

On the other hand, if they are automatically given representation, it just allows the griefing on the other end (people moving in and voting a mayor out of office, effectively kicking out an existing town, aka PA Takeover, even if this doesn't actually involve PA's). Mayors NEED a way to be able to preserve the community that the citizens are building against griefers and general jerks. And don't tell me people have the right to just move in and do whatever they want . . . they don't. In any society if they disturb the peace too much, they go to jail, effectively removing them from the community.

But houses that were there BEFORE the city hall went down need to be grandfathered so that they can't be banned out of their land, I agree. It's in no way fair for anyone to be forced to move out of the area that they have been in for months to avoid taxation from a city they wanted no part of, and no chance to be able to voice their opinion in a vote.
