Also, make sure you're near city hall. Don't know how near you need to be, and it may even vary by lunar phase, but there is some kind of distance limit.

I am having an issue with zoning rights. I am the only mayor our city has ever had. I enabled Zoning tuesday, for the first time. When I attempt to /grantzoningrights it gives me the error that I must be the mayor or a city militia member to grant zoning rights.

none of my milita members are now getting the same message.

This bug is going to prevent my city from growing in the morning.

I submitted my ticket on Tuesday. How long do I have to wait for a responce from Customer Service?

You can't /grantzoningrights inside a building for some reason. Is that what was happening? If you were in a building, try stepping outside.

Oh no, this is a BIG nasty bug, we haven't been able to place a new structure for two weeks. Even the mayor can't grant zoning and if we want to place a structure have to contact CSR, but who wants to wait 13 hours online for a CSR to finally reply?

At least 10 of us have militia, we have tried inside a building, outside, near city hall, on city's edge. Tried logging out, quick disconnect, total system re-start. The only option is to turn off zoning, which really stinks because then you can have unwanted squatters. We tried granting to guild members, unguilded city members and future city residents.

I wish I had better news for you, but if you can get around this bug, please reply, because we are dying for a fix!

This may or may not help you, but...

I am a Master Politician, Mayor of a City of aprox 95.

I have hardly ever granted anyone zoneing rights.

You can still grow your city, but it requires that you, as Mayor, keep your lots free. If you do this, then you can place any buildings that people want. You then go inside the building with the person that wants to own it.. target the person and type '/transferstructure'. This will give them ownership, and everything will be just as though they placed it themselves.

This has allowed me to place buildings exactly where i want them, instead of spending half an hour every time trying to talk people through the placement process.

Hope that helps,

you could also turn off zoning rights while the structure is placed. I hate zoning rights myself, it's apain in the arse.

PosiTec, if we used that command to transfer our guild hall to another owner, would it also transfer the contents of the hall? Or would they be destroyed?

When you use /transferstructure to change the buildings owner, none of the contents are effected.

The only time you lose anything from a building is when it is re-deeded, and using /transferstructure doesnt do that.

In fact even when re-deeding I dont believe you can lose items any more, since it wont let you re-deed a building that has items in it.

I have used the /transferstructure approach at least 100 times, and never had a problem with it.

There are generally two ways to do the transfer, either...

a) Both stand close toterminal. Current owner targets new owner and types "/transferstructure"

b) Both stand close toterminal. Current owner targets terminal and types "/transferstructure newownername"

For factories, harvesters etc (anything without a terminal) simply replace the terminal in thetwo options above with the structure itself.

Personally I would NEVER turn off zoneing. You only need one jerk to come plant 10 structures in the middle of your streets etc.

One more note: Once a structure is placed and transfered you have ZERO control over it. You cannot force the owner to move it, and you cannot stop him using /transferstructure to give it to someone else.

If you get /grantzoningrights working, always remember to use it a second time on them immediately after they place their structure... otherwise they can go on placing stuff for 24 hours, anywhere they like. They can even place and transfer... meaning they could basically move any number of uninvited people into your town..

Excercise caution !!!
