In the face of so many threads ripping the profession lets take a time-out to list the reasons you enjoy being the Mayor of your city.

Please alsostate whether your mayor character is an alternate 'toon' and whether you were the founding mayor or newly voted in.

I'll start.

I am mayor of a Metropolis on Lok, Naritus Server. I am not the founding mayor, but DID do a lot ofwork inthe city.

We started slow and hard (guild split). But on the distant, barren, hostile, unpopulated planet of Lok, we have grown to a Metropolis with 2 strong guilds, and a very active player base. It took a lot of patience and planning, but we've gone from being a hopeful empty city to a very thriving Metropolis with no end in sight.

The location is GREAT.. but i have to admit that I HATED Lok when i first visited it - and VOWED never to go back! Now, when i go off planet - I miss it and can't wait to get back.

The people are friendly, generous, and funny. I also run the cantina and it is busy most nights and often during the day.

Problems of gamebugs or player conflicts aside - I love my job!

I founded the city. Pass off the mayorship to another, but that person went holo hunting and I took it back..

our PA have put a lot of resources into making the city. We coordinate with a lot of our citizens (not in our PA) to make Spired Rock happen. It is not a solo thing... or a single PA thing. We had help will continue to work together to make it grow.

I enjoy working with people... I'm an architect since the beginning.. and probably die being one...

Main character, original mayor.

Being a mayor at the beginning was very enjoyable. Trying to design a layout and changing that plan when the terrain was stubborn, trying to recruit people, hunt with new citizens, spend hours surveying the land to see what structure could fit where, worrying about will I get enough citizens for the next tier, debating the use of taxes or not and how much, dealing with harvs/gens that were adopted by the Commune when we grew, and placing decorations, terminals, or trainers to give the town an interesting look and feel. I had fun in the first month and halfof being a mayor.

Lately, I have become a bit bored with it. I created a city channel for citizens to use to talk to one another, but I rarely get a 50% participation in it. I've tried to get a roleplaying environment but some don't want to participate (I can respect that) but others are upset that it isn't a roleplaying environment they want (argh! Can't please everyone).

I've now mastered the profession and now I have to decide whether to start giving up skills and finishing mastering carbineer or give up dancing (interesting note, more citizens are concerned about me thinking of giving up dancing than politician). The 77 points I've spent for this profession, I see as a skillpoint sink.

Sorry to add the good things with the bad things.

There are downsides and boredomfactors in any profession.. Lets' focus on what we love about the profession of being mayor.

problem is that.. not everyone can be mayor... or any other profession.... I personally suck at combat... I'm decent with TKA... but nothing much else.. I did dabble into weapons and armors.. but don't like it...

BUT!!! Politicians tied to a city.. so some players "sacrifice" their playstyle to get a city...

I really enjoyed being a mayor at the beginning. Everyone worked together, we had hunts together, we had social events together, but as we grew that sense of community began to fragment. People became content with our level (city) and went off and did what they want. Trying to get people organize for something is harder than recruiting a new citizen at times. Maybe it would had been better to be a factional city instead of a neutral and with 75% of the residents not being in a pa hall. Tonight (in just over one hour) we will have town hall meeting to discuss ideas for the city. Be interesting to see how many residents don't show up (they had a 10 day notice about this).

Problem with the boredom factor with politician, if the the person gives up the profession, it effects more than one person, unlike any other profession. If being a politician wasn't some much of a skillpoint sink that it is, I would be enjoying it more. Right now, master dancer/politician, carbineer 4103. All skillpoints gone (well have one left). We as politicians make a big sacrifice to become one and at times, it becomes frustrating to look at your skills, how much it cost and what little you get in return.

I think many mayors will agree that player cities are more enjoyable if the citizens interact, help out, and spend a fair amount of time in the city. All other professions don't need a community, but politicians do. Seventy-seven skillpoint is alot to sacrfice for so little. I haven't thrown in the towel yet, but I do find it difficult to find reasons to keep the profession and was hoping there would be some good replies to your question.

I am the founding mayor of Aegis (which doesnt mean that I founded it alone of course, but I placed the city hall).

What I like in beingmayor :

- you know all your citizens, and they all know you

- you help people ; new players who settle in your city needs people to explain them the basics - as the mayor, you are often the first person he thinks he can ask for some help. Then with your knowledge of the citizenship you can direct gim to the appropriate veteran citizen, depending of what the novice needs. You help creating a social tissue in the city, and in the game.

- you have a well identified role, and this profession allows advanced roleplaying

- you are at the center of the building of something that will last : a city, and a community
