Thread: One week as Mayor and I'm ready to quit SWG

Some of you may remember my tale of woe from a couple of weeks ago; both our Mayor and Guild Leader quit SWG without warning leaving the rest of the inhabitants of the town up the creek.

I stepped in as Mayor but the incumbent mayor had so many ghost votes I couldn't beat him. So we upped and shifted to a new town on a new planet. I spent the best part of a week arranging it. Getting a Town Hall built, and a guild hall, financing new players to join, yadda yadda yadda. Even had to sell my Holocron to pay for everything - something I was extraordinarily loathe to do, but as a not-yet-buffing Doctor I don't have an income except that which i create for myself doing missions. In total the town move, architecture, furniture, shuttle costs etc etc etc has cost me 200K. Which is basically all the money I had in the game.

Not only that but I've estranged my best mate who already hated SWG, losing a 20-odd year friendship because I couldn't afford time out from rescuing our town to go visit him this week as I had promised.

5pm today was a big moment, when I should have finally got my politician XP, but it's now 12pm here and I'm still waiting. What gives? Does it always take this long?

So right now I'm wondering what the point of it is - what's the reward?! Grrrrrrrr.

The only thing I can think is that 6 days ago i got 200xp from our last town, somehow. But I travelled there tonight and I'm no longer registered there as a citizen or as running for mayor. So what can I do?

I've tried to raise a ticket to CS but the search function has now been searching for 'Politician XP' for 7 hours and I cant do anything more until the search returns. I've never ever got past this point with the ticketing system, it always just searches for days and then returns to blank with no record of the search. Pile of crap.

I feel like walking away. If this is what happened to our last Mayor I totally get the frustration and anger now. This profession sucks all the fun out of the game. The **edit**ty back-end Customer Service stops me being able to complain anywhere except here, in the vain hope that one of the devs will read it.

Anyone give me any reason to hope?

It always need several hours between the "official" end of the weekly cycle and the moment when city maintenance is paid, the mayor is elected, the mayor gets his XP and the announcements are sent.

The better is to wait and if you really do not receive anything open a CSR ticket.

Got the announcements, city maintenance got paid etc about 18 minutes after the 'city update' time. If the XP should come at that point, as I suspect, I'm clearly not getting it.

And as stated, I cant open a CSR ticket, the obligitary search locks the CSR system for several days and then resets. I have never had a search return ANYTHING.

For some odd reason manytimes I do not get my political XP until the next time I check the city terminal. I would try this and see if you get it.

I still don't see why people put themselves through things like this in a Game

Out of curiosity, did any of your new residents go to the terminal and vote for you, or did they simply declare citizenship and do nothing more because you were the incumbant?

I suspect something changed with Publish 6 or 7 so that "default" votes by new citizens do absolutely nothing. If someone is voting for a person, that vote will continue each week. (Older incumbants get this without a problem because the vote was already directed at them by the early system.) Should one of those in running drop out, then those votes are probably lost for even the incumbant until the people manually redirect them.

Of course the CSRs don't believe anyone when they're told this, but this might be what happened to you.

Dingo - what a tosser you are. I need say no more.

Everyone else - thanks for the help, I got my citizens all to log votes for me when the town was formed. All I can think is that you get Politician XP once a week and that's that, so when I got the 200xp (on tueday I think it was) from the old town, that must have been my quota for the week.

As I explained, I can't ticket the CSR's because my ticketing system doesn't work. I've sent a mail, externally, to SOE Customer Services so I'll see if that gets any kind of response.

Cheers

You are right. I am a tosser and that was uncalled for. Drunk posting should be prohibited.

all I can tel you is hang in there. Being the mayor of the city is equal parts excasty, pain, love, hate. It all works out in the end, that's all I can really tell you. btw there are other options for reporting errors. you should check those to get your xp back

Thanks for the support all,

I sent an e-mail tothe CSR's on Monday morning, and happily a dev mailed me about 5pm last night, met me in-game and gave me the Politician XP. By 7pm last night we had mission terminals and streetlights in the town.

I've got to say I was very impressed with this customer service; as the first direct dealings I've had with the CSR's it went in the face of all the bad press I see about them across the forums. Well done SOE, you've restored a lot of my faith in the game.

KeliG, I think I just had all 4 parts of that equation in 3 days. You're not wrong
