Thread: Shuttle Ports and other thoughts

Reading the other threads on the state of player cities, the difficulty of recruiting and keeping citizens, and other such topics, I got to thinking. Why is a shuttle port only available at a Rank 4 city? Under the best circumstances, a new city is only going to have to travel by foot, mount or speeder for a month.

A bank is nice, but not needed for a city to grow and expand. Same with all the other city structures.Easy access to travel would do wonders, I think, to aid and help PC cities grow and expand, or simply keep their citizens they have now.

So, taking a moment to answer my own question, perhaps it is because the Dev's want to reward those that take the time to grow and develop. Understandable, of course. But perhaps a better reward incentive would be lesser fees on such items the higher the rank of the city.

It seems kinda pointless to discuss such matters when we know we're not getting any help soon, but I thought I'd toss that up there anyway.

I see very few problems with PC (Player Cities), mayors/Politician as they currently are.

People shouldn't become mayors or build PC at the drop of a hat either.

Some, are happy to driving 5 minutes on their speeders to get to their city.

Also, nobody told them they had to build thier city so faraway.

And, maybe they should've joined an existing city rather then begin a new one.

It's an online game and people of all different ages play. People will come and go and a shuttle isn't going to keep them.

Afterall, there has to be an incentive for a mayor to move up the Political tree.

If anything, maybe PC fees should be less.

a reward for work and time passed on city development ?

where is the reward... there's no reward at all...

I spend 3 month on planning my city... the layout is really good, everyone like this city... the spot is also nice... but yet... the city is incomplete, we havve no shuttle... i can't complete my city because of that damn rank cap and i think it's even a bug atm (see this thread :http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Politician&message.id=34327 or this one http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Eclipse&message.id=304902

so there's no reward at all... I see player cities that are so messy and so looking bad that I wonder why the peoples did it... and for cool cities... you can get what you want, decorate it as you want...

are you sure of what you're saying ???

my poeple are around 70 from 3 PAs all very friendly... they are so bored to having to pass throught oposite factionned cities and such things...

why did we build so far you asked (6km from any npc city) well then i should ask you what the point in making a city 2km from an npc one is ?

I see city as a settlement where you can go and have things like a npc city but not close to them and the first aim was to create a shuttle port far from the npc city to give other player a way to go without having to travel much...

but well, project like that are ruined cos of those devs who don't even care to reply to our questions...

first we couldn't start our city on the first run... cos it was too far and many other Player city poped up right next the npc cities (4 cities in a little range near Theed on my server... very usefull)

then we put our city on the second gen, and we developped untill we couldn't develop more without that shuttle port... we waited till rank goes up... and we have got screwed ...

here's what I wrote on my other thread regarding the rank 4 :

---------------------------

well... its true that having a capped cit on rank 3 while there's is more than necessary citizens is pretty boring....

it's like having an incomplete city... you have the citizens but you can't really place them in a good layout because the city is getting full in the 300m range... lol... i have 6 citizens waiting in the 400m range atm, how weird ...

decoration are also capped while i don't really why...

you can't promote your commercial zone since without shuttle no wanderer are coming, this is one of the most annoying thing to many peoples that would like to have vendors...

rank 3 is the most unfair rank, you're on the edge to complete your city and develop it but you aren't allowed to... and I really don't see any reason to this now... it's not justify at all, if a planet can handle 13 shuttleport, it can handle 15 which is the number of all registered cities...

i can understand why the number of cities are capped... and i can understand to the purpose of a little village .... but I don't understand why the cities in place ready to be completed can't because of a cap on rank 3

there's no point in keeping people annoyed with that rank cap unfair system...

at least I see that devs or any SOE peoples don't care at all about this ... but i wonder why start player cities to screw so many peoples like this ...

I have been mayor since the second surge of PC'S . I think the city ranks are just fine the way they are also. The thing that really gets on my nerves are these "wannabe mayors". I see time and time again of how some people just throw up PC'S and rush to city rank 4 just to get the shuttelport, but then their fun stops there. The hadn't put any thought as to how their city should advance from there, and then they just lose interest in it.

Also my city has been at city rank 2 since January, and my city is 3k from the nearest Shuttleport. So in order for you to have a good city you have to first of all plan it, then you have to recruit (and I don't mean getting a whole bunch of inactive citizens just to fill the ranks). Many people are fed up with cities right now, because their mayor's offer them nothing.

As mayor's we can't jsut sit back once we attain our goals and expect things to continue well. Get out into your city, talk to your citizens, ask them how they are doing. If you're expecting more in return, rather than being generous, then get out of the Politician profession, because you should ALWAYS be there for your citizens. My city has been steadily increasing since we began, we are finally reaching city rank 3, with the next election. So as a final note, if your city is losing citizens due to not having a shuttleport or whatever reason, then don't cry about it, get out there and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

and what about the peoples like us who spent almost all their time for their city and citizens ? but who can't acheive their city...

make a difference ? oh sure this have already be done, but you have to realise that it's not the citizen count that happen to be an issue at some point... I have recruited very nice and dedicated people, i have set a real roleplaying militia for our city with Imp army ranks, armor scheme ad uniforms... I know my people won't leave bcause we don't have a shuttleport, but just get bored of how the situation is ...

the problem is not from the citizen when you're a good mayor, but from the rest of the planet and all other people... when you city is growing to a certain point, you realise it won't grow anymore cos you don't have that shuttleport... you can do everything to attract peoples... without shuttle it will be a real pain... and there no point advertising a city on which you can't travel fast...

I'm agree with most of what you said... mayors must be active and plan their city carefully... but when all this is done... if you're not allowed to plan it further, complete your dream... you'll see what i mean, I don't think you'll escape it if your city continue to grow...

you think city rank cap are fine... just give me a justified reason to not let current rank 3 cities update on rank 4 or better ... i'm not talking about adding more cities, i'm talking about the 2nd gen city which wait for so long to update...

gimme a justification to prevent those mayors to complete their cities (providing they put hard work on it as we do)
