Thread: Give us flatter grounds, or fix skyscraper foundations!

I am so sick and tired of seeing UGLY player cities.95% of cities are just slopped together (well on my server) with NO thought put into it. The whole reason I became a politician was because I was tired of it all, and I wanted to show everyone that yes, you CAN make a perfect looking city. Only under one conditition though...You have to have flat ground.

No i'm not talking about ground that is mainly flat but has a few slopes and gullies. I'm talking about PERFECTLY flat, not one single bump....I had found the most perfect place on tatooine for a city, no lumps or bumps. There was also a pvp arena, and a spectacular canyon view. I was so disgusted to seea tiny village up therethat was just plainly sloppy. There are very, very few places like this in the game and to see this guild just randomlyplacing buildingsreally pissed me off.

I will not settle for anything less than perfectly flat ground. I absolutely hate putting buildings on bumpy landscapebecause you get the foundations that are500 feet high.

I would really like to see the devs take some areas and flatten them out. Or get rid of the skyscraping foundations. I'm getting pretty discouraged right now because i'm a politician with no city, and i'm not going to build it unless I know I can make it look nice. And every great location I find, theres another city there that has done a horrible job at designing it....You would think that these peoplewould have played sim city before lol...

Anyways thats my rant...

Then we need to do away with player cities if they can't fix the foundations.

I think that's being overreactionist...

The reason they have skyscraper-type foundations is because people complained that the variance in the terrain that houses could be placed on was too small. They wanted to be able to put houses on hillsides and other types of terrain, so what they did was compromised. Since flattening the ground is absolutely outta the question (much too cumbersome in server load) the opted to just allow houses to extend their foundations to compensate for uneven terrain.

So, this results in towering buildings and large brick foundations. People got what they wanted, and people were happy they could live on the sides of hills.

Flat terrain is boring.
We set up our city near the old Pod race track on Tat. The main part is flat terrain but parts from the city go into the hills. At the slope of the hills we have several houses and I like this "skyscraper" looking. And I invested many time to plan the shape of our city.

I was really rooting for flatter terrain too,but I would rather have some hills than a completely flat city. My city hall has a skyscraper foundation and I really like it. Whenever I see a city hall on flat ground, its seems like it was missing something. Flat is kinda boring, especially on Tatooine when sand hill or a rock is your only scenery

Ithink the reason cities are so sloppy has more to do with conflicting schedules than terrain. When I placed my city hall, I told the citizens to try to keep the are in front of the city hall clear and try to keep the houses in line and face north and be as close together as possible. Miraculously, we actually got 10 citizens in 24 hours, and by the end of the week, it was more important to me to just fit the houses in the radius than to have them look nice. I placed the hall like 10 seconds after the servers came up after the publish that raised the cap from 10 to 20 on Tat. I had been standing on that spot for a week, I had no combat skills so if a lair spawned, i had to try another spot. There were already 9 shuttles on Tat. Somehow, during the holidays so no one was was ever on, and I was really busy, we got over 55 people (mostly guild members)to place a house there we got the last shuttle slot on the planet. I really didnt have the luxury of making the city look nice trying to cram 55 people in a 250m radius, with very rough terrain. Didnt turn out too bad andwe've gotten rid of most of theoddly placed houses ,but I would really love to completely remodel my city Now comes the arduous task of getting all the people in a certain area to come and pick up there house at the same time so I can place everything and transfer itback, and change my design based around terrain difficulties I'm definitely waiting until after the city revamp and we get some form of street. Even if it is only darker sand.

We have a beautiful spot on Talus, just an amazing location. A HUGE mountain to our backs (Mt. Weytohi), twin rivers (one on each side of the city) and a fairly flat terrain. Our city faces east, and when you're standing on the steps of the guild hall or city hall.. sunrise is just incredible.

Yes, I'm proud of our city.

I rather like the skyscraper foundations for those houses placed on the hill that is adjacent to my city. While the hill is essentially a large area that we cannot build on, we have several houses on the slopes and they had just a bit more character to the city.

Veruna on Naboo, we've spent a fair time building it up and trying to ensure it doesn't sprawl to much, a few gaps whereprevious residents houses have poofed/redeeded, but these fill up quite quickly when new citizens join.

Right by a huge lake, with a big hill to the rear, we like it here, nice atmosphere.

I think flat = boring to be honest.

It would be good for a mayor to have some sort of leveling ability... or maybe have an auto leveling occur from the city hall out to the city boundry each time the city makes a new level... I imagine the ability to be something like filling in ravines, not something that would level a mountain range if you built your city next to it or that would block a river if you built next to it.. Just something for small ravines...

The original message, I agree was a little bit over reactive. but I do agree with the idea some sort of leveling should be granted to politicians, within reason.

Sorry, was stated clearly that cities are NOT going to be able to level any ground. Too intensive for the terrain engine to handle customized terraforming.
