as far as I know, my city had a relatively peaceful week... mostly because I didn't get to log online. now that I've graduated, I should have more time to hang around
I'll have much more to write about next week... but in the mean time, how was the week for your city?

yikes, that sent me into a coughing fit (not hard to do since I'm still not feeling well), but I'll take it as a complement
no, I don't get paid to be abused... *ahem*, serve the forum. none of the correspondents do, we all pay 15 bucks a month (more if they have more accounts) just like anyone else does.
...although if anyone has a summer job for a college (cs) graduate that's continuing onto grad school, let me know

Well this is my very first week as an offical Mayor. I have to say it's not been an easyweek at all. We past the first 24 hrs with flying colours (YAY!!!!) But 24 hours before our next update one of my so called friends upped and left the city leaving us short of citizens. I was forced to do what i promised not to and do a little spamming in a big city to attract someones attention.
Luckily we found two new friends to join us so when the votes were counted we had 11 citizens (YAY!!! again) I also have two friends on 14 day trial waiting to start on the membership who are joining us too. We are growing slowly but surely.
I do have a question, I have a citizen in my city (Hunters Harbour, Talus. server: Chilastra) who is getting married, someone told me that mayors can actually marry citizens in the game .. is this true and how do you do it?
Thanx for the replies in advance.

Let me see - this week...
We got our site up and running (very special thanks to Reyn for all the hard work there). We're enjoying our second week at Rank 3 VERY much - being registered on the map when you're 11.5Km from the only starporton the planet certainly helps sales...
Two of my citizens have declared that they want an in-game wedding, complete with a darling little screenshot of the proposal at one of our twice-weekly hunts... go Icesse and Emp! They also decided that I was the best candidate to conduct a ceremony. (Heeeheeeeheeeeee - gonna enjoy this... "If anyone knows of any reason why these two should not be wed, speak now or forever hold your peace.Anyone? you at the back? Take your time.... How about you? No rush, think hard now, this is a big step....")
My girlfriend found the guild/city website and has been happily writing non-starwars threads all over it...
I've been merrily plonking medium and small gardens around the place, and am looking forward to being able to declare us a Manufacturing centre.
I told the citizens that unfortunately, with us now being a sizeup I was going to have to start charging more taxes. I got a barrage of mails saying "Fine, feel free to charge more!", which was odd. NEVER heard of a populous demanding more taxes before.
All in all, another great week for us in Crimson Sands. I guess I'm very lucky with my citizens.

We did it. Farpoint moved up to Township status 4 hours before the update. We're very excited about that. Still going through some growing pains. I have a person on vacation and his large naboo is crowding city hall and the future sight of the courtyard. We placed our cantina last night and I have to give props to Eliria, our master architect, who had it completely decorated when I logged in this morning. I placed Farpoint on the planetary map this morning, with a bit of pride, I must say. Things are mostly quiet. Only one person hologrinding, the rest of us doing our thing. It's nice to see people hanging out in town more often than not. I think being on a high end planet helps in that regard. Oh yeah, and to celebrate our rank advancement, we are having a little soirer Saturday night in the new cantina.

(Danger, cynical post ahead. Non-cynics may want to page down to the next post)
Well, it finally happened this week.
Aventine, Naboo, Kettemoor, one of the first cities to be founded on our server (not the first, but one of them) began its downward spiral. We didn't have 55 citizens left at the deadline and descended from rank 4 to rank 3. All civic structures in the 300-400m range were destroyed instantly, and the citizens in that band were also removed, leaving us with only 44. It will be difficult to rebuild what has been lost, and it's a job for someone else to do. I have tendered my resignation as mayor of Aventine, and I look for someone willing to step up to the challenge of fitting the required 55 citizens into the remaining space. (Not to mention the challenge of finding the people to begin with...)
I wish, ultimately, that I were responsible for this event. I would love to be able to tell my citizens and you that Aventine fell because of something I did or didn't do, or even because of something its citizenry did or failed to do. I'd love to pin it on lots of cross server trades that fell apart, or financial woes, or somesuch. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be true. Plainly said, Aventine fell because too many people quit the game. Too many people became frustrated with the game in its present state and decided to either take a break or cancel their accounts entirely, resulting in a steady loss of citizens. (Ironically, the few cross server trades that we did have are still present and going strong...) I suppose we could have paid up their houses and paid large sums to run a ghost town, but to what purpose? We could have spammed Theed for warm bodies to slap in houses to meet the quota, but that's hardly conducive to community building. No, the appropriate solution was that the active players we recruited to be a part of our city and our community would continue to be so, and that those players would remain active and interested in SWG. This did not happen, and I cannot claim responsibility for that. (We certainly tried to keep it interesting...)
Instead, I moved my possessions out of city hall last night all with the unavoidable feeling that Aventine failed because the developers have failed to do their jobs of providing an interesting game that keeps people involved. I don't say that to disparage them personally; I don't believe for a minute that there's any malice on their part, but nonetheless it falls to them to keep people at the very least paying for accounts, and preferably playing. I do believe great things are coming, and I'm pleased with the direction the game is going. It's just all going to come too late for Aventine, and I'm more than a little bitter about that.
I realize that there's nothing that can be done at this point, and I don't really want anything to be done, aside from the obvious goal of involving people more fully in the game. I don't intend to quit SWG, but I won't be a politician any longer. I guess I just wanted someone semi official to see the story, and to know that there's a problem.

In Mos Vegas we had a player accidently donate his life savings to the city hall (4 mil) when he intended to donate 200K.
He got confused because the donation bar appears to be reversed to that of the bank. Well we opened up tickets and the answer was "take him out 50K a day for 82 days"
lol
All you donaters be careful now

Rauha, Naboo (Starsider)
Due to some people leaving (military, inactivity, other pursuits) we've descended from Rank 5 to Rank 4. It wasn't a huge deal to us since we had never planned on being Rank 5 anyway (our city layout is planned around Rank 4, Rank 5 was just a bonus). We're still going strong and people seem to like our city. We get tons of visitors daily, and people stopping by to shop or use our trainers, or simply tour the city.
In an effort to build a stronger community presence within the town, we're going to startusingi aTeamspeak server, witheveryone in the city having access to one of the channels. Hopefully, it'll serve to draw people together into a more tight-knit group, and perhaps it will build a stronger sense of unity amongst the core city members. It can also be a fun way to communicate for those just starting out in the city, and help them become more acquainted with the city more rapidly. People don't necessarily have to talk (they can lurk if they want) but sometimes putting a voice to a toon can be very comforting and even fun for those involved in the chat.
Our University project trials worked out amazingly well this past weekend, but suffered from the fact that everyone rejoined the guilds they were previous in for a major PvP event. However, we'll continue working out the details of how to get PvP alive and kicking again. More soon as it becomes available.
