Myself, I like the weekly xp at the city updates. It makes the Politician profession unique and not transient. And there's enough profession grinding out there at it is.
xp isdifferent depending on the age and size of the city. As a new/beginning city, you don't need tons of xp as youadvanceas acity grows. It's expected a mayor and xp grows with it's city. Also, once you've grown from 10 citizens to 40 (or so), you're also getting 4k xp now - so you are moving up much faster. XP also comes from player votes.
If you've already Mastered politician, then you've had (at least) an opportunity to take advantage of the various different abilitiesand many would already be in place - I really don't know what the rush is for getting xp the second time around.

With the other professions, it is very easy to gain the experience necessary to go up levels. If you are a artisan, you can grind out powerups for a couple of hours and 'bang', you have your skills back.
If I as an architect decide to take a couple of weeks off, I know that within an hour of me deciding to take it up again I can have the experience back through a bit of grind and before you know it, I'm a master architect again (with some ap xp help from guildies that is
).
But if I decide to drop Novice Politician (or drop some skill boxes to temporarily free up some skill points) , and then pick it up again, it will take me weeks and weeks to regain the xp again. I could have 60k of xp banked, but as soon as I drop Novice Politician, its all gone, and so begins the slow slog week by week slog back to where I was before.
At present, there is little incentive to keep the skills, lots of incentive to drop them, and one huge disencentive to not drop it. Every other player out there can pick up and drop skills willy-nilly, but as the rate of ourxp gain is so slow and so restrictive. I mean, why are webeing penalised in such a way?
Sure I could keep the skills, but even if I drop a few boxes, I know that I'll lose most of what I have banked the next time I pick up a skill box.
So why can't I keep the hard-earned xp that I have? Why are the limits set so low (the maximum bankable xp for example at 2/2/2/2 means that you can only lift to say 2/3/3/2 within the first week, and then for most cities it takes a further 2 weeks per box after that!!).
Am I the only one who finds this frustrating?

It's not so much the rush, its more the case of those of us who use the politician profession as "use only as needed" profession. At the present time there is no real need to keep the majority of the skills unless you are a decoration fanatic, and most of us at some stage or another will drop the skill altogether to concentrate on other aspects of the game (and believe me, after being Mayor for almost 8 months, its nice to explore other parts of the game for a change without having to resort to 2nd accounts or playing on other servers).
The issue I have is that once we have had our fun, and wish to re-pickup the politician skills again, it can literally take weeks to regain the xp that you already had owing to you. I am not arguing that the time frame for xp granting be reduced (no idea where you picked up thatfrom Dawson but it would be nice if some people actually read posts instead of flicking through and making half-baked assumptions), but more that we be allowed to keep our xp instead of loosing it when we click on that first skill box.
Just an idea on something that frustrates me from time-to-time.
